Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Unfortunately, we did not have an enjoyable stay at Rowanlea Lodge. The host, Lorna, will do anything she can to keep your security deposit, so beware of this when booking! We were accused of damaging sheets that were not used, asked to replace table cloths due to a spillage during a meal and had to pay additional charges for guests. The house is not really dog friendly, with white carpets throughout, so be mindful of this. The host also lives on the grounds of the property which is not advertised. I think you could stay in more private, welcoming and family friendly places elsewhere for the same price. Would not recommend.

Dear Sarah Thank you for taking the time to review Rowanlea Lodge. I'm disappointed to hear you felt the property wasn't suitable for your short stay and you wouldn't recommend to others. When you booked the property there were 2 adults and 1 pet on the booking details. During your stay there were 3 dogs and a total of 8 adults. You had no respect for the property and didn't abide by our house rules which are clearly stated on the booking platform and in the welcome pack. .Additional charges apply per guest if accommodating more than 4 adults. Our Insurance only covers a maximum of 6 guests and 1 infant at any given time. There were several items damaged during your stay and part of the security deposit was used to replenish these items. The remaining balance was returned to you. Well behaved pets are welcome but are not permitted in bedrooms or on any furniture. There is plenty of space in the secure fenced gardens surrounding the property for dogs to explore, the kitchen and living room area is natural slate flooring where dogs are also welcome. Rowanlea Lodge was designed with great care and attention to detail to provide a luxury Log cabin experience with many additional facilities, this is apparent in the 5 star reviews I have received over the past 8 years since we opened in 2016. Again I'm sorry your stay wasn't enjoyable and I hope you find somewhere more suitable for your next family holiday.

Perfect getaway
The perfect holiday lodge, beautiful location, lovely host and absolutely everything you could need! A real home from home. It was so nice to arrive to the warmth of the stove and a great welcome hamper. The lodge was beautifully decorated throughout and spotlessly clean. We enjoyed every minute, from relaxing in the hot tub, to sitting by the woodburner on the cold evenings. I also enjoyed watching the wildlife come and go, the woodpecker was my favourite! The area has some fantastic dog walks, St Cyrus beach was definitely my dogs favourite! We will absolutely book again and look forward to our next visit, highly recommend!

Fantastic lodge
What a fantastic stay at Rowanlea Lodge! We took a last minute gamble to book a trip here for the first time and were blown away. Lovely clean and spacious lodge, with all amenities you could wish for. Beautiful hot tub and fire which were ideal for chilling on a snowy day or night under the stars. Totally dog friendly with an enclosed garden. Host was very helpful and friendly. Cannot recommend enough, we are already planning our next trip.

Thank you for your lovely review. There is something quite magical about the Lodge when it's decorated for Christmas. There's no better way to relax than in the hot tub on a clear starry night. A pleasure to host and I look forward to welcoming you again soon.

Beautiful Lodge
Beautiful lodge with amazing views. Everything you need within. Enclosed gardens for the dogs and large hothub to relax in at the end of the day after our days out at the stunning beaches nearby. Nice and cozy with the log burner. Lorna also left a delicious breakfast hamper for us! Would definitely recommend

Amazing, breathtaking and didn’t want to leave!
Saying it exceeded our expectations would be an understatement! The views are stunning and the wildlife make it feel like a woodland fantasy. Couldn’t recommend it more! The lodge has so much space and far bigger than I thought it would be and the hot tub was even bigger! Lorna was lovely and an incredible host, you can tell she’s doing what she loves and it shows in what she’s accomplished. Can’t wait to stay again!!

Peaceful getaway
Just spent last 5 days here. Lorna is a fantastic host and the place is just amazing, peaceful and quiet. The lodge was spotlessly clean and comfortable, the furnishings are of a high standard, all the beds were very comfortable. Loved the extra little touches like the breakfast hamper and the dog bowls with treats and poo bags!! Thanksfor a lovely stay, won't be our last!

Magical Stay
Wonderful location, views from Rowanlea are just so beautiful. The lodge it’s self is super clean. It is fitted out with everything you require for a perfect stay. Lorna our host has included many extras with lovely wee touches throughout. It is easy to see that Lona had put her heart and soul into Rowanlea. The hamper was very tasty and extremely generous. Lorna goes above and beyond to create a brilliant trip away. The lodge has a magical feeling. We were delighted and entertained by a ‘Scottish safari’ of creatures who visited the garden..two red squirrels, two ginger hens,a hare,a wee garden vole,a woodpecker, many birds and the nightly flight of bats. The garden is well maintained and the hot tub a fantastic place to unwind. Rowanlea is a super place to stay. No one could fail to be charmed by it.

Perfect weekend
My family and I stayed at Rowanlea Lodge from Friday 24th to Monday 26th March, and I can honestly say it was the most wonderful little break. We were there celebrating my other half’s 38th birthday, and along with our 3 year old daughter, we took our beloved Labrador and also our pet tortoise, so it was a real family affair. The moment we arrived we were greeted warmly by Lorna, who was there to show us around and answer any questions we might have. She was also on hand via phone for anything else, but really I feel we were left with all the information we could need, including local takeaway menus etc!! The welcome hamper was amazing, bread, cereals, teas, and even a selection of hot food items to get us off to a brilliant start each morning. Whilst there we visited Dunnottar castle, St Cyrus beach, aunty Betty’s ice cream shop in Stonehaven(a must), all which I would highly recommend! Another little gem is the local pub in Marykirk, just a short walk from the lodge, and they do the best carvery on a Sunday I think we’ve ever had. All in all we hope to get back to stay again in the future and have already recommended Rowanlea Lodge to many of our friends. You definitely won’t regret booking here. Thanks so much again Lorna. xx
