Its a great base for a quiet peaceful holiday, and also for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits from walking, kayaking, sailing, fishing, cycling (hire bikes on Luing and enjoy the beautiful, quiet island) bird watching and photography. There are local walks from within the village and a slate beach to enjoy skimming stones on. The village has a pub/restaurant, small playground, museum and harbour where you can take boat trips out to the Corryvrekan Whirlpool and the surrounding Inner Hebrides. Take the local small ferry to neighbouring car free Easdale Island only a few minutes ferry trip away and treat yourself to a coffee and cake at The Puffer Cafe/Pub and just watch the world go by! . Seashell Cottage is right next door to Rockpool Cottage and is pretty much iidentical to Rockpool Cottage Cottage. If we are booked try Seashell Cottage for availabilityMore

About the neighbourhood
Ellenabeich has craft shops, a bar which also serves meals and the An-Cala Gardens which is part of Scotland's garden scheme. We also have a Heritage Museum that depicts the way of life when the area was a thriving Slate Quarry Industry. Four miles along the road is 'Tigh an Truish' Hotel/Pub and the famous 'Bridge Over the Atlantic' built in 1792 and described as the only bridge that crosses the Atlantic. This bridge connects the mainland to the Isle of Seil where Ellenabeich is situated. The ferry ride from the old slate pier to Easdale Island takes only a few minutes and transports you to another world where there are no cars, just natural paths that criss-cross the Island. The pub and restaurant are the centre of the Island's active and varied social life and the award winning Folk M...
How to get there
If travelling up from the South on the M74, take the M8 all the way through Glasgow, following signs for Glasgow Airport. As you approach Junction 28 (The Airport), stay in the centre lanes marked Erskine Bridge and Greenock. At J30 , follow the M898 to Erskine Bridge, not the M8 to Greenock. Once over the bridge, follow the A82 north to Crianlarich and Tyndrum, then the A85 to Oban. Alternatively, and of equal time, take the A83 (Where the road splits at Tarbet on the A82) to Inverary. There, turn right at the archway onto the A819 to Dalmally/Oban. At the T junction, turn left onto the A85 to Oban. Take a pit stop at Hamilton before reaching Glasgow for petrol/toilets. After crossing the Bridge, the next available petrol/toilets will be at Milton, just before Dumbarton on the A82....
