This was our second year visiting Kirkcudbright for New Year's Eve. The town is so nice and friendly, everyone seems to want to say hello. It is a perfect place for dogs with plenty of woods and beaches close by (beaches are a bit small at high tide). I would recommend this town to anyone wishing to visit Scotland. On...

Management response:

Thank you for your review and your recommendation that potential holidays makers should visit Kirkcudbright. It does tend to be overlooked in favour of the Highlands which is a pity as the area has loads to offer and the people are extremely friendly.

Cottage ideal for touring the Kirkcudbright area. Accommodation layout good for 2 couples or family with children. Parking fine right outside the house but difficult to access especially if you have a wide car.

Management response:

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Glad that you liked the location of the cottage and that you found it comfortable. There is always the option to park on the street if the access proves challenging.

This cottage is in a very convenient location in the town, very close to shops and galleries and the harbour. The kitchen is well-equipped and with wifi and TV it is an easy place to settle into. One of two things look a little tired, and the downstairs shower room is very small - fitted in under the stairs but...

Management response:

Happy to hear that the cottage worked for you and that you enjoyed your first visit to the area. The downstairs shower room is indeed compact but can be very useful for people with limited mobility who cannot access the upstairs bathroom.

About the neighbourhood
It is no coincidence that so many artists have chosen Kirkcudbright as their place of residence. Everywhere you turn there is a view worthy of painting and the town has changed little in the past 200 years so retains much of its original charm. Rattra Cottage is in a wonderful location right in the centre of Kirkcudbright within walking distance of shops, restaurants and pubs. In the High Street itself you will find galleries, craftshops, artists studios, a close leading to the marina and riverside views. There is also a 16th century castle just around the corner opposite the harbour. A range of facilities are available in the town such as a swimming pool and golf course and on the outskirts of town there is even a wildlife conservation park. A little further afield there are several beau... more
