Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Dirty, facing dark filthy and garbage from restaurants
A big mistake from the pictures. It faces a dark, filthy , alley smelling horrible from
Restaurant garbage. Very deceiving photos. Condo was dirty and carpet was horribly stained. Rust stained appliances & broken furniture.
It has a small garage and can walk to the Royal Mile.

Great city centre location but quiet and secluded
Good communication with agent to get access
Not difficult to find
Great option if you want to have your car in Edinburgh - comes with a garage.
Only criticism was that an estate car was really difficult to manoeuvre into the tight space - damaged the car:(
Flat was exactly as advertised - comfortable two-storey with cosy but bright living space.
Right in the heart of Edinburgh so plenty of eating options and walkable to everything.

Great location with garage
Arrival process and checking in was easy - Dave showed us the apartment and talked us through how things work.
Situation of apartment was as we expected - we have stayed in a number of "mews" properties in New Town. The garage was large and easy to park in.
The local restaurants are excellent, varied and so close - although booking is recommended for most of them!
As with other travelers the decoration and sofa's are a bit tired and could do with refreshing (hence 4 not 5), but the apartment was still comfortable, with good heating and plenty of hot water.

Dirty flat in dark alley with garbage cans
The apartment was dirty with roaches. The location is in a dark alley filled with garbage cans and filth. It was very frightening to walk at night along this filthy alley. The carpet was filthy &
furniture very warn. The sounds of restaurants dumping their garbage at all hours was
constant. The gas fireplace was pleasan but most windows were painted shut and could not
be opened at all. The sofa had tape on various rips. The size was good with split levels. The
upstairs toilet leaks water & tub is very slippery. The upstairs bath glass enclosure is not
secure and leaks.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It has been acknowledged previously that the fitting of the property are getting a little tired and this is going to be addressed. However I categorically refute that the apartment was dirty and that there were "roaches" these type infestations are not an issue in Scotland. The windows can be opened and there is certainly not any tape on the sofas covering rips and these comments would indicate there is perhaps a little embellishment of the experience at this property.

Great location near everything in the new town
Happy with the location and self-catering facilities although it is now looking rather tired. Could do with a refurb - fresh paint, carpet cleaned and sofa replaced. Plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants in the immediate location and always got the taxi to drop us off at Thistle Street bar to finish off the night with a wee dram then back to the apartment just around the corner

Really disappointed
I took the apartment with family based very much on the location and the photographs. It was booked for a week during the Festival and as such was very expensive. Sadly the apartment is looking very tired and in need of some love and attention. Not what you would expect either based on the photographs or the price. The downstairs entrance (and there was a bedroom adjacent) spelt of a cat having enjoyed the area a little too much. The furniture had seen better days - marks on the settee. There were scuffs and marks throughout on the paint work and I was really sadly disappointed.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for the Thistle St Lane. The property has had a very busy season with many guest coming and going, many pieces of luggage being taken in and out has been detrimental to the paint work & walls. Some furniture is also now requiring to be replaced and will be addressed for the new year.

Great location, but rather tired
This property is in the perfect location to enjoy the festival and was close to so many things. It is close to St Andrews Square if coming from the airport by tram and it is no more than 20 minutes walk from most of the main venues.
The property is located in a mews area behind shops and restaurants so there can be some noise from bottles being put out late at night. The area is very safe.
The proper was of a decent size for our party of 4, with two decent sizes bedrooms and a large lounge/dinner.
The things that let it down were small but when you are spending 2000 pounds plus for the stay are vital. The property is in need of a decorative refresh and some new quality furniture as it felt a bit like a student flat. The couch had a rip in the seat, bar stool broken and many of the glasses had chips in them. Some new quality furniture would really make this a home away from home. The downstair ensuite shower room could do with a make over, sealant around the shower etc. They also need to ensure that the place is properly cleaned, large amounts of fluff behind the beds furniture etc.
WiFi was decent and usable.
With a little TLC this could be one of the best properties in Edinburgh

Outstanding location in central Edinburgh
My wife, son (20 years old) and myself spent a great week in Edinburgh in mid-June. This apartment is extremely well located in the New Town, within easy walking distance of everything. The apartment itself is very well equipped, and quite spacious. Wi-fi was very good. The 2 bedrooms, each with ensuite bathroom, provided a perfect setup for us. Having the private parking was great, and we had no problem fitting our Skoda estate car in the secure garage. If we had to nitpick, we would want to see a more comfortable mattress set in the upstairs bedroom, similar to what is downstairs. We would certainly not hesitate to book this apartment again, and would happily recommend it to other travellers.

A fabulous stay in a great location
We recently enjoyed a long weekend stay in Thistle St Lane and were really happy with our choice of accommodation. The apartment was ideally located for exploring central Edinburgh whilst also being in a quiet back street location. The apartment is spacious and well equipped and was clean and tidy throughout. The booking arrangements and related information / communication were also excellent. We would definitely be happy to make a return visit.

Gem of a find!
We were REALLY impressed with this property. Perfect for all our needs: 1) to spend quality time together as a family instead of 2 hotel rooms; 2) luxury living in the heart of the city. We couldn't believe how peaceful it was inside, and this delightful property is exactly as shown in the photographs. We loved it and will be back!
