Holiday Rental House
The Shelter Stone is a beautiful Grade C listed house situated in the ever-popular Aviemore, within the Cairngorms National Park. The house sleeps up to 13 people in comfort (in a mixture of double, twin & family rooms), and is ideally located for year-round relaxing, adventurous holidays and short breaks.
The house boasts a large lounge (with wood burning stove), dining room and well-equipped kitchen (electric range cooker, American style fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle etc.). In addition, there is a separate utility room with Belfast sink and washing machine. Free unlimited superfast broadband Wi-Fi is available throughout the house.

Our back garden is perfect for al fresco dining should the Scottish weather be kind, with picnic tables and a BBQ available.
We have plenty of off-road parking to the front & rear of the property. Also to the rear is our private garage, providing secure external storage for bikes/skis/canoes etc. (although please note that we cannot accept liability for your valuable kit!). We also have a private EV charge point.
The Shelter Stone is right in the centre of Aviemore, just a few minutes walk from shops, pubs & restaurants. A perfect base for exploring the wonders that the Cairngorms have to offer.
During our peak summer and October holiday periods our minimum stay is 5 night and 4 nights respectively. 3 night weekends will be considered in October. Please contact us to discuss. Friday/Monday arrivals preferred. Saturday arrivals may incur additional charges.

The Shelter Stone was a perfect location in Aviemore for myself and eight friends. The house is very comfortable, loads of amenities and very central. Good pub next door and a supermarket just after that so didn't have far to go! Really enjoyed our stay here, very good place.

Excellent, would recommend!
A party of 12 people stayed at the Shelter Stone for a long weekend during July 2023, and the accommodation was excellent. Lots of room, and Aviemore centre just a few minutes walk - I'd definitely recommend to friends and family.

Brilliant house and position
We thought this was just great. Being central in Aviemore was a really easy position, but surprisingly quiet considering we were on the main road. We heard almost no traffic or other noise. We were 7, but the house sleeps many more depending on your use of double beds. There’s also plenty of other space, even its own dining room. Beds were comfy, showers plentiful and great water pressure. The kitchen was extremely well covered for crockery etc. The owner asked for any improvement suggestions but I couldn’t think of any. This is a gem and I’m getting loads of kudos from the group for finding it.

Fantastic holiday accommodation for large group
We booked the accommodation to be able to celebrate my 70th birthday with our children and grandchildren. As a party of 13, this house provided us with everything we could have hoped for. The kitchen has enough crockery and cutlery for several meals. A bonus is that there are lots of big pots and pans to allow us to make spaghetti bolognese for the whole party. The sitting and dining rooms have lots of space and seating. The bedrooms are VERY spacious and everywhere is very clean.
Aviemore is one of our favourite family destinations, there is plenty to do to keep everyone occupied. The weather was not warm enough to use the outdoor area and barbecue but that was a pity, as the garden is ideal for this.
We are already looking forward to use this accommodation again in the future.

Beautiful, well maintained house, well equipped and in an excellent location.
We needed a self catering house for a large family group covering 3 generations. The Shelter Stone was perfect for our needs. The house has all the trappings of a good well maintained stone built property, the rooms a very light due to the high windows. The ensuite facilities are to a high standard as is the shared bathroom with separate toilet. The bedrooms are light and airy and the kitchen is well equipped. The dining room was excellent for our family meals. Our 3yo granddaughter loved the garden space and loved playing hide and seek in the many rooms.
The location could not be better, a few minutes walk to the town centre and even closer are two pubs. Less than 30 mins drive away there is the Highland Wildlife park and Landmark. Both well worth a visit if you have young ones. The fun house in Coylumbridge is also excellent for young people.
All correspondence with the owner Rosie was promptly replied to.
I cannot recommend highly enough this property for a family get together (or any large group)
I really hope we can arrange a return visit.

It´s a lovely home
The contact with Rosie was smooth and kind. I stayed with a group of 11 people from 12 until 16 April 2023 in Shelter Stone House. We had already seen the photos on the internet but once we arrived we were still surprised by the beautiful accommodation, the spacious kitchen with utilityroom, a separate diningroom, a cosy livingroom and several modern bedrooms, some with an adjoining bathroom. And the surroundings of Aviemore are also sublime and ideal for all kinds of outdoor activities.

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. The house was perfect for our family gathering. The house was very well
equipped, warm and comfortable, and only minutes walk to the centre of Aviemore and all the local amenities. Aviemore had so much to offer in terms of activities, there was plenty to keep the kids entertained. Thank you for a great stay.

Ideally located, warm & well equipped - perfect holiday accommodation!
We stayed in the Shelter Stone with a group of friends and their children for a week during the October holidays. It's a stunning old character house, spacious rooms (and plenty of them) and really well equipped for anything your group could need for your stay.
Given the age of it the house i was surprised it is really warm, nevertheless the wood burner goes on of course, for ambience if nothing else!
plenty space for kids to run around, bedrooms and bathrooms a plenty also really clean and good water pressure.
You cannot beat the location, means you can leave the cars and enjoy walking/ cycling round the village and surrounding area- it made the holiday for us.
so much did we enjoy our stay that i booked it a few weeks later again for a group without kids in January, which was also awesome and completely stress free thanks to Rosie!

Best House for Family and Friends Holiday
This is our fourth stay at the Shelterstone and we love it so much that we continue to book yearly. We have to families (group of 12) that stay for the week in Aviemore, its perfect so much room for everyone. The house has plenty of space for entertaining our large group and it is in the perfect location, walking distance to everything. The house has everything you need a home from home and is spotless. There are plenty car park spaces which is a bonus when the kids are now driving too. The owner Rosie provides great friendly communication, house rules are clear and transactions simple. Would highly recommend the Shelterstone

Aviemore and the Cairngorms are simply brilliant for family & outdoor holidays and short breaks, but there is also plenty to offer those who prefer to relax!
Activities nearby include hill walking (from easy strolls for all to full-on mountaineering), skiing, mountain biking, watersports, horse riding & pony trekking, golf, fishing, stalking, quad biking and much more.
For those who wish to take things a bit slower, there are many lovely woodland and loch side walks, with the beach at Loch Morlich being a family favourite.
Day trips nearby include the Highland Wildlife Park, Landmark Forest Adventure Park, the Cairngorm Brewery and local distilleries.The Strathspey Steam Railway is a also a must.
Getting around
To get the most out of your visit to Aviemore and the Cairngorm National Park we would recommend a car due to the flexibility it gives you. However, the train station is only a five minute walk from the house and plenty of buses service the area.
