Nairn has been a holiday town since before Charlie Chaplin started coming here. With similar rainfall to Paris, extra sunshine, sandy beaches and dolphins many families return year after year. It's close to Inverness for endless monster hunting around the dark and misty loch! and where castles, forts and distilleries are guaranteed. Mountains, moors and forests, with rivers?tumbling through rocky pools, provide beautiful countryside in which to walk or explore?with a mountain bike. Visitor attractions, golf courses and restaurants are abundant, as are retail parks for those with withdrawal symptoms!

A wee part of Paradise for our Ruby Wedding celebration!
As we were about to celebrate 40 years of marriage, we wanted to find somewhere special to stay for a few days. We found it right here at Hiddenglen Holidays!
On arrival, we were met by Duncan, a young and enthusiastic man who gave us all the information we needed for our 4 days' stay in the most beautifully furnished lodge named 'Treetops'.
Duncan is taking over from the owners Therese and Peter who are taking a 'step back' from the business.
The lodge is situated on an elevated position overlooking the glen and small lochs. The front of the lodge has a spacious balcony with table and chairs allowing best views over the glen.
The lodge is on a working farm with sheep and chickens and 6 fresh eggs were left for us upon arrival.
The area is wonderful for walking and especially around the wee lochs.
We are lovers of wildlife and the area around Treetops doesn't disappoint and although we didn't see them on our visit, we know there are many red squirrels around. We did however, see a pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers at the feeders over the balcony, plus several sightings of Treecreepers nearby amongst others.
Our all-too-short stay was wonderful and we will certainly be back in the future to enjoy more of what Peter and Therese have created over the years and what Duncan can take forward.

Perfection....wish I could live there!
We spent a week in Treetops Lodge with our children and had a relaxing, peaceful week. Watching life on the croft was inspiring!
The lodge was spotlessly clean, warm and well equipped. We enjoyed (muddy!) walks around the croft, and further afield - our children particularly enjoyed rock hunting on Findhorn Beach.
If I could stay forever, I would!

Lovely holiday
We enjoyed a lovely holiday staying in the lodge at Hidden Glen Holidays. We were warmly welcomed and the kids were invited to feed the chickens the following morning. The kids loved it and so we fed the chickens and also collected the eggs several times during the week. The lodge was comfortable, clean and well equipped. We very much enjoyed having meals on the patio. We highly recommend Hidden Glen Holidays.

My Stay At Hidden Glen
We spent a very relaxing week in one if the lodges. The lodge itself was very comfortable and spotlessly clean with the most wonderful view. Peter and Therese were most welcoming and pleasant and always on hand. Although secluded as we were hoping for we were near enough to Nairn for any necessities.
I Would highly recommend Hiddenglen to anyone looking for a break away in the Scottish Highlands and will definitely be making a return visit.

Beautiful, peaceful location
We had a wonderful week at this most peaceful location and enjoyed seeing the wildlife. We stayed in 'Rowantree' which was clean, well equipped and very comfortable as well as having a great view across the valley. The owners were always very friendly and helpful and we liked the way everything was run on an eco-friendly basis. Thoroughly recommended if you like to get away from it all!

Comfortable lodge in a fabulous location
This was our second stay at Hiddenglen and hopefully not the last. We stayed in the Kestrel's Nest: the lodge is warm, spacious for 5 adults and well equipped. The rooms were spotless and Peter & Therese were exemplary hosts. There's a superb view from the balcony and an almost constant show of birds on the feeder. It's such a restful location and we enjoyed awaking with to the sounds of sheep and going to bed to the hoots of owls.

Beautiful and Tranquil
Stayed in ‘Pisces’ which is the only caravan on this site. The caravan is comfortable and clean and contains all that’s needed for a enjoyable holiday.
Stayed for two weeks which we wished could have been longer! We were sad to leave here with it’s beautiful surroundings and tranquility.
Hope to return here again and introduce other family members to the ‘hidden glen’.
So peaceful and picturesque.

Family holiday in the Highlands
We enjoyed a 2-week family holiday at Hiddenglen/Laikenbuie. The accommodation is in a secluded and rural setting around a 10 minute drive from nearby Nairn, with its amenities and beach. This means peace and quiet and lots of wildlife. Hiddenglen is well located for exploring this north coast, and with four children aged 7-16 we found more than enough to keep them all entertained. In fact they’ve all said it’s the best family holiday we’ve ever had. So our recommendations include the Landmark centre (not cheap, but something exciting and fun for everyone), Loch Ness (avoid the tourist spots – plenty of accessible walks) and Fort Augustus, Inverness, Caves at Cove Bay near Hopeman (we watched dolphins swim by on our walk back), Lossiemouth Beach (mainly for RAF jet-spotting), Roseisle Country Park and beach, Culloden (National Trust), Lochindorb (take an inflatable and row out to the island fort), Findhorn and beach – we even made a day of climbing Ben Nevis! Weather was pretty good too – warm and sunny, with just a couple of days’ rain. Therese and Peter were friendly hosts with plenty of local recommendations for getting the most from our time. The accommodation was spotless. And our younger children enjoyed feeding the chickens and collecting eggs, and use of the games room, slide and trampoline. Visitors to the bird feeding station on our balcony included all manner of tits, a woodpecker and red squirrels! In short…I highly recommend it!

Ticketyboo!
Spent a lovely fortnight in Rowantree Chalet - a hidden gem in a hidden glen. Well-equipped accommodation in tranquil surroundings with wonderful views and visiting wildlife (red squirrels, woodpeckers, finches and tits). It was a delight to explore the croft, collect eggs from the henhouse and row around the small loch. The local area is perfect for river, forest and beach walks with plenty of good eateries for sustenance. The Lakenbuie team were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay and provided us with suggestions and all the information that we required. Suffice to say that we were sad to leave but will be back!

A very special place
We stayed in Rowantree for a week in mid to late June and had the most wonderful time. Arriving on the Saturday we were greeted by Peter, Therese and Piper (Duncan was around also), wonderful hosts who were there when needed, Therese I spoke to regularly about the various birds and animals and also flowers - so helpful.
Accommodation was very comfortable with everything needed, nicely spaced from the neighbouring property (there are only a handful), and with the most beautiful view from the lounge and patio - I spent a lot of time looking at that view and watching for birds and wildlife.
We visited Nairn a few times and it is a lovely town with everything you need, Sainsburys is less than ten minutes from the chalet along with home bargains. Had 2 fabulous meals at the Sun Dancer restaurant overlooking the beach - truly outstanding food and location. Also headed around to Chanonry Point to watch dolphin in the wild - truly wonderful to watch.
The peace and quiet at Hidden Glen is wonderful, the scenery excels! Watching all the visiting birds and wildlife was our entertainment, we saw deer every day, red squirrels also, we were also so fortunate to see a barn owl, pine marten and a hedgehog- I haven't seen one for years! We walked around the fields and lake- we just had the most wonderful time.
Therese sells plants in aid of the local hospice, a few have come home with me - I will be back for more! And there was a beautiful welcome card on our arrival along with 6 eggs from their hens - my husband commented how good they were.
Thank you Peter, Therese, Piper and Duncan - our week was bliss.

Nairn is an excellent base for exploring the Scottish Highlands - voted the second most favoured global holiday destination for 2010 by Trip Advisor.
Nairn is a holiday area due to the low rainfall, sandy beaches, golf and dolphins.
There is a wide choice of restaurants in the town, in hotels and farm steading conversions in the country.
