The nearby village of Duffus has a lovely local shop, post office and play park whilst Elgin boasts some great independent shops, e.g. Gordon & MacPhail - the local whisky emporium and Pencil Me In - the local pencil emporium! Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Another fantastic stay at Old Duffus
We've stayed at Old Duffus a few times now and have always found it to be a real home from home that suited our needs perfectly. It had been a while since our last stay but we finally made it back up there in February and were delighted to find that the property had been improved and redecorated since our last visit! The bathrooms and the upstairs bedrooms have had a complete makeover and look absolutely stunning. My 4 year old and I particularly loved the huge roll-top bath! As ever, the house was lovely and clean on arrival and remains the best-equipped holiday rental I have ever stayed in. So many thoughtful touches and little 'extras' that make your stay that little bit more comfortable. My daughter really enjoyed discovering the toys provided in the playroom upstairs. We all had a great time re-discovering some of our favourite haunts and activities from previous visits. Blustery walks along the beaches at Lossiemouth, Findhorn and Hopeman are always a winner and of course no visit to Old Duffus would be complete without a walk up to Duffus Castle. Yet again, we had a lovely holiday at Old Duffus and we hope not to leave it so long til the next visit!

Gorgeous house with beautiful view
The Old Duffus Farm House is a proper treasure, in such a peaceful spot. It’s a great house for get together with friends, a great layout for socialising, and plenty space for a large party. We particularly enjoyed exploring the old castle that it looks into.

Wonderful weeks holiday
Just returned from a weeks stay at Duffus Farmhouse to celebrate my son’s birthday. We’re stayed here many times before and we just love the place. It’s quiet, comfortable, roomy and every room is equipped with everything we need. It’s always spotlessly clean, beds are comfortable and the bathrooms have been refitted to luxury standard. The walk in showers are perfect for those of us with mobility problems and the big bath was a hit with my granddaughter. It’s brilliant just to relax in the garden and admire the view to the castle. Can’t wait for our next trip !

A home from home
A very comfortable fully equipped home-from-home. We arrived when it was dark, so it was especially pleasant to open the bedroom curtains and see the sun rising over the castle. What a lovely view. It was my first visit to this part of the country. It's very beautiful and I am sure future guests would enjoy strolling around Hopeman, going to the beach or visiting Elgin and Lossiemouth.

An idyllic stay in the country
Duffus farmhouse is a wonderful spacious cottage that combines the charms of a 100+ year old home with all the modern amenities. The view out the living and bedroom windows of the old castle is incredible and we got a couple of days of sun to sit on the patio and enjoy wine and the weather. So many things to see and do; we even enjoyed the fighter jets overhead from the local RAF base (they don't fly at night). While there, we had a small glitch with the washer that was immediately remedied, which was much appreciated. Also had the pleasure of meeting Caroline, the owner, who was simply charming. All in all, a memorable experience.

Very well equipped holiday accommodation with an amazing view!
Just back from a week here and have to say that this farmhouse offers very good family accommodation for larger groups. Easily the most well equipped house I think I've ever stayed in. Welcome pack was a really nice touch and much appreciated. Bed linen and towels were spotless and house was in good order throughout. Only two things which probably need a mention. The first is that the kitchen could do with a good clean as the inside of the drawers, the utensils and the oven were a bit dirty and sticky when we arrived. The top oven wasn't working either which wasn't a big deal but is handy when you're cooking for larger numbers. The second is our own fault as we didn't account for the distance we would be from RAF Lossiemouth, and although the aircraft are amazing to see, our older Labrador didn't share our enthusiasm. Probably not a good place to stay if you have a nervous dog. All in all a great stay and would definitely recommend.

Thanks so much for your review. I'm really pleased you enjoyed your stay. I am mortified that you found items in the kitchen sticky etc - this should definitely not happen and will certainly be brought up with our housekeeping team. I am really sorry about that as we do pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our properties. Thank you also for letting us know about the top oven - we only know things like that need attending to if guests let us know. We can now look to get it fixed.

Stunning location
This is a wonderful farmhouse in an amazing location. It overlooks Old Duffus Castle which is a great place to explore with children and dogs. The house was clean and tidy with everything you could need for a short stay. It could do with some updating but more than adequate with plenty of space. There is a large secure garden which is flat so great for games and for keeping the dogs safe. The bed in the main double overlooking the castle had a very very squeaky mattress which made sleep difficult. However the second double was excellent. At night there is not a sound to be heard. Overall a very relaxing and enjoyable stay at Old Duffus.

Hi, thanks so much for leaving us a review. I'm really pleased you enjoyed your stay, however I'm sorry you felt the house needed some updating. We always pick several areas to improve every winter and this year we repainted the porch (inside and out), the entire hall and corridor (upstairs and down) as well as the stairwell. We also put in new carpets along the entrance corridor as well as on the stairs and upper hallway and also redecorated the playroom and put in new carpet and curtains. I also apologise that you found a mattress very squeaky. We certainly always work hard to try and ensure all our guests have a good nights sleep and I'm sorry you didn't on this occasion. .

Great family accommodation in an ideal location.
The house was spacious, comfortable and well equipped with a large enclosed garden - excellent for children. The children also appreciated the playroom with a good selection of toys and games. The location is excellent, so close to Duffus Castle and within easy reach of a number of beaches. There is lots to do / see in the area and the information provided in the folder was extremely useful. All in all, the house provided a great base for our family and we had a lovely time, enjoying a variety of sightseeing and activities. When we had one slight problem, it was dealt with immediately. Definitely worth four stars, edging towards five.
