Interaction with guests
On arrival we greet you with a tea tray to welcome you. I can do a small amount of shopping if you are travelling from afar. A bottle of wine and candles are left for your dinner and a small box of logs should you want to curl up on the sofa with a book in front of a log fire. We live in the big house the other side of the courtyard (separated by a lawn and tree) and are available for help and advice (not intrusion!) most of the time. We show you around and then disappear unless we are needed. Our aim is provide a place which is like you are house guests and everything has been left ready for you, including freshly picked flowers, but the owners have crept away.

We've just came back from a week's stay in this lovely, cosy and beautiful cottage in gorgeous location. The house was perfect for a family of four; it was equipped with everything you might need and more. There were lots of personal touches in every room like fresh flowers, bread, jam, chocolates. The location is perfect for exploring the Cotswolds...

Management response:

Full marks to you for managing to see SO many places in such a short time! Of course we would love to see you all back here and I am sure we can find even more attractions in the area which the children would enjoy.

We have just returned from our 6th visit to Sansome Cottage. It is in an idyllic village,Ilmington, and perfectly situated for exploring the Cotswolds and Shakespeare country. The owners, Felicity and Tony, are helpful and friendly while also giving guests their privacy. Felicity welcomes guests with home-baked goodies and fresh flowers in every room. inside, the cottage is lovely, very...

Management response:

We just love that you fly thousands of miles to come back to Sansome Cottage again and again! And you came at just the right time ( in March) for daffodils and skipping lambs! We look forward to your 7th visit!

Just returned from a fabulous week in the Cotswolds. Sansome is a most charming English cottage offering everything we wanted and more. Felicity is hostess supremo-- which was obvious from our initial inquiry, followed promptly by a much appreciated information deluge. She and Tony are delightful people and were readily available for insider info on what to do, see, and...

Management response:

We love that you mention your highlights in order to help others. It is always gratifying to exceed expectations as our visitors are so kind with their reviews, making us always slightly anxious we will not live up to them!

Note that most of the year it is Saturday changeovers only but I may be able to be flexible. Quotes on here are not always correct so please check with me!

If you are coming for a long stay I may be able to arrange for a cleaner to come in for a few hours each week. She currently charges £25 for two hours (minimum 2 hour session). It would be necessary to arrange this in advance of your stay.

About the neighbourhood
Ilmington has an excellent village shop open 6 days a week + Sunday morning and with a cafe attached.

There are dozens of beautiful villages around; most of the houses and cottages are built from locally quarried Cotswold stone which glows golden in the sunshine.

Nearby: The delightful Hidcote Manor garden, 3 miles. A National Trust garden and, arguably, the best one in England. Designed by Lawrence Johnston, an American in the early 1900's, it features a series of "rooms" as well as wild areas and woodland. Opposite this, the delightful privately owned, Kiftsgate Garden. You can walk to Hidcote from the cottage through the fields or take it in on a 7 mile circular walk to include the excellent Ebrington Arms pub in Ebrington.

The old wool market town of Chipping...
Getting around
Although a car is not essential ( with a shop and two dining pubs + online supermarket delivery availability) we do recommend that you have one, in order to really get the most out of your holiday as there are so many wonderful, sometimes out of the way, places to explore. Local transport is sketchy. There are trains to London from both Stratford and Moreton in Marsh. I have devised some suggested day trips which I have left in the folder - mostly encompassing an historic house or garden of which there are many in the area. Ordinary bikes as well as electric bikes are available locally for hire. The pedal cycles can be delivered to the cottage.
Car advised
How to get there
Airport: LHR (and BHX is only 37 miles): 124.0 km
Railway: MoretoninMarsh&Stratford: 13.0 km
Being in the centre of England we are not too far from a number of airports, London Heathrow (an hour and half by car) is probably best for trans-Atlantic travellers, but Birmingham is the nearest (45 minutes drive). But Bristol, East Midlands and London Luton are also within easy reach. A little further is London Gatwick (takes about 2 and half hours) and London Stanstead (about the same).

Many of our visitors take the train from London to Oxford and pick up a hire car there, thereby avoiding driving in London, but an equal number pick up a car at whichever airport they land at. Local car hire can be arranged but it usually involves a taxi journey from the station. You can also get a train from London to Banbury (20 mins from the cottage) or a direct coach service from Heathrow, and...
