Entirely owner managed, maintained and loved, Sansome House Cottage lies in the courtyard of Sansome House, a very attractive peaceful setting on the edge of Ilmington, one of the prettiest villages in the Cotswolds. Converted from 18th Century farm buildings, refurbished and modernised, it offers a home away from home. Ideal for a romantic break, a family holiday, couples, walkers (fabulous walks!) or just for those wanting to relax together in comfortable & roomy surroundings. Unsuitable for pets and under 5's. This centrally heated cottage with open log fire has a cosy & comfortable sitting room. The large sunny kitchen/dining room is extremely well-equipped & leads to a small private garden. There is a shower room downstairs and a bathroom with bath (no shower) upstairs. The main bedroom with dressing room off has a King bed made up as 'Austrian twins' with separate mattresses & duvets on the one frame so suitable for very close friends as well as couples .The twin bedroom has singles which are longer than standard (200 cm long mattresses) . The cottage combines the traditional with modern comforts & is ultra clean and well-equipped. As long as I have them in the garden you will find freshly arranged flowers in nearly every room. The cottage is perfect as a base for exploring the wonderful Cotswold countryside on the doorstep, by car, on foot, or by bike. We look forward to welcoming you & doing everything we can to make your stay a memorable one. The cottage welcomes non-smokers and children over 5! for more comprehensive details about the cottage and information about activities and events in the area throughout the year. Entrance hall with staircase to 1st floor. This is quite steep and is unsuitable for those who have difficulty on stairs and just one of many reasons we do not accept under fives although well behaved children over five are welcome. Cloakroom with shower. (recently remodelled). The sunny kitchen is unusually well equipped for a holiday let. There are 4 types of coffee maker -electric drip filter, French press, Nespresso machine and hob top espresso maker. We leave basic starter amounts of stores such as salt sugar, oil, tea, coffee etc. so you don't have to rush to the shop as soon as you arrive. Also small supplies of loo paper, kitchen foil, w.up liquid etc. Patio doors to enclosed garden with table, chairs, BBQ. Seasonal herbs in the garden for the cook, who also has a small flat screen TV to watch in the kitchen. Sitting room: An attractive room, getting afternoon sun, with stripped floor boards and antique Persian rugs. Two comfortable sofas and an easy chair. 40' HDTV , A wide selection of books, DVDs, maps, guides, games and puzzles to borrow. WIFI access is FOC. Bluetooth radio/CD player. Classical CDs to borrow. Upstairs: two newly carpeted bedrooms with bathroom in between. Bath, loo and handbasin (no shower). Principal bedroom has flat screen TV and a small dressing room off with handbasin. Radio in twin bedroom. Exterior Details: You drive into an enclosed courtyard and park your car right outside your front door. The other buildings around are our garages and outhouses. The house garden is a haven for wildlife so full of birdsong and you may see our pheasant, deer, badgers, foxes, squirrels, a hedgehog or Mr Mole. Your own garden is small and very private. The situation is very quiet and peaceful, save for the church bell practice on Tuesdays or the children playing outside at the school up the road in Back Street, in term time and of course the odd lawnmower in summer. The hill above the village is the highest point in Warwickshire and there is wonderful walking country all around, the whole area being criss crossed with walking and bridle paths; you can wander through open fields, along escarpments and through wooded areas or just meander on the many village footpaths. A little stream trickles through the village and a mini-waterfall cascades from the restored medieval fish ponds which are owned by the manor house. The cottage is 4 minutes walk from 2 good dining pubs serving lunch and dinner,The Red Lion&The Howard Arms. There is a lovely community village shop on the Upper Green, selling fresh fruit and vegetables, locally sourced meat, bread from a local bakery and a variety of groceries. A cafe is attached. More grocery shops are 5-10 mins drive - Chipping Campden or Shipston, Waitrose supermarket is only 10 minutes away. There is a Sports Club in Ilmington and a leisure centre 5 minutes drive away It is also wonderful cycling country with many marked routes. Cycle & walk guides available.. More

Interaction with guests
On arrival we greet you with a tea tray to welcome you. I can do a small amount of shopping if you are travelling from afar. A bottle of wine and candles are left for your dinner and a small box of logs should you want to curl up on the sofa with a book in front of a log fire. We live in the big house the other side of the courtyard (separated by a lawn and tree) and are available for help and advice (not intrusion!) most of the time. We show you around and then disappear unless we are needed. Our aim is provide a place which is as if you are house guests at a little country house and everything has been left ready for you, including freshly picked flowers, but the owners have crept away.

About the neighbourhood
Ilmington has an excellent village shop open 6 days a week + Sunday morning and with a cafe attached. There are dozens of beautiful villages around; most of the houses and cottages are built from locally quarried Cotswold stone which glows golden in the sunshine. Nearby: The delightful Hidcote Manor garden, 3 miles. A National Trust garden and, arguably, the best one in England. Designed by Lawrence Johnston, an American in the early 1900's, it features a series of 'rooms' as well as wild areas and woodland. Opposite this, the delightful privately owned, Kiftsgate Garden. You can walk to Hidcote from the cottage through the fields or take it in on a 7 mile circular walk to include the excellent Ebrington Arms pub in Ebrington. The old wool market town of Chipping Campden has a ...
Getting around
Although a car is not essential ( with a shop and two dining pubs + online supermarket delivery availability) we do recommend that you have one, in order to really get the most out of your holiday as there are so many wonderful, sometimes out of the way, places to explore. Local transport is sketchy. There are trains to London from both Stratford and Moreton in Marsh. I have devised some suggested day trips which I have left in the folder - mostly encompassing an historic house or garden of which there are many in the area. Ordinary bikes as well as electric bikes are available locally for hire. The pedal cycles can be delivered to the cottage.
