Le Manoir De St. Marcel is set-up to cater for families with children. Your children can expect to meet other children. We provide a safe secluded environment for them to play in, & they are made to feel very welcome. Our local restaurant, just 2 minutes' walk from your front door is unusual in that they provided genuine haute cuisine whilst remaining child-friendly. La Petite Maison remains popular, & is booked throughout August. HOWEVER! - You may consider the larger, more spacious La Grange. - The price is reduced!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Summer 2013 was a return visit to La Petite Maison, this time traveling by road & air from the UK. Our welcome from the resident proprietors was very warm and all our questions were met with prompt clear responses reinforced by the welcome pack. The best icebreaker of all was the evening barbecue held on the second night following our arrival which gelled families across the age ranges. We knew what to expect from our accommodation, having previously stayed in 2012, and were delighted with the several improvements. Le Manior is situated within easy walking distance of St Marcel-du-Perigord, the local village, with Laline on the River Dordogne, handy for the supermarket shopping, a short drive away. The teenagers were well catered for with the large pool on site and canoeing on the Dordogne. The patio area and small garden were fenced in to keep the dog from straying.

Relaxing, private and delightfully presented
We booked a fairly last minute week at La Petite Maison, one of the properties at Le Manoir de St Marcel. Directions were precise and we were at the property within forty minutes of landing at Bergerac. The property is well presented and equipped, with lots of sunny privacy. The welcome pack is a lovely touch and much appreciated. The pool is exceptional, and Peter and Nancy are excellent hosts, perceptive to the amount of interaction the clients want or need! Everything you need to recharge and revive your love of France.

Remote so get ready to take on the narrow twisty roads!
I could not believe the roads we travelled to get to the house, you would need to be an accomplished driver to take them on. The house was quite dark as was surrounded by trees. My bedroom and the children's bedroom were quite dusty as there was an old carpet on the floor. I suffer with my chest and had an attack during the week which I put down to sleeping in the dust. The house was only moderately clean on arrival - I found a breadboard in the cupboard which was covered in blue mould - I washed every dish after that! The pool area was nice but watch out for the broken tiles round the edge. It was also freezing. The games room was very very dusty and looked like it had never been cleaned. The village had no shop so it was a 30 minute round trip to buy a pint of milk! Also any day trips we done involved a lot of driving. The landlord was totally out of order with our deposit. He took €80 as a cleaning fee even though we had spent hours the day before hovering and washing floors. I found that unforgivable and must say I would not recommend him or his place to anyone.

Nice holiday ruined by landlord customer service
Regrettably, we had our holiday experience sullied by having to deal with the landlord’s quest to hold onto the deposit, despite 2 of us cleaning the house from top to bottom for 4 hours on the day of departure. When I communicated with him, his emails were quite unprofessional and insulting as he even accused the children of breaking a shelf in the fridge and not telling anyone (which he has charged us for), despite the fact that this was broken on arrival and very annoyingly allowed items to fall out every time we opened the fridge door. He mentioned in his emails that he wasn’t “on the make” despite the fact that no-one even suggested this. Despite several long emails, he only refunded €45, saying that the cleaning costs are €80. In honesty, we left at 4am and we left an empty tube of toothpaste on the washbasin. We also left the fridge plugged in which he charged for. I did not think this warranted to loose the deposit – Be advised to take photos of everything on arrival. The house was adequately furnished but not exactly child friendly with steep stairs leading to the bedrooms and a large step down at the front door. The fridge was dirty on arrival and smelled of cheese. There was also a chopping board in the bottom cupboard which had about 6 months mould on it. We scrubbed the fridge before we used it (this again become a bone of contention when mentioned in my email on return as they vehemently argued that the fridge was cleaned – If it was, it wasn’t to my standards). The swimming pool was clean but definitely not solar heated as advertised. We were surprised at the landlord’s lack of knowledge of local amenities as we spoke to him several times about local amusement parks and things to do and all he was able to tell us about were things within several km’s. The scenery is beautiful in the area but a car with Sat-nav is essential as the house is located in a very remote area. Also be aware of the tax sejour which the landlord presented to us several hours before departure and had to pay on the spot. This would not have been an issue had we been made aware that we had to pay this tax, but it wasn’t mentioned once. All in all, our stay was nice and relaxing but after dealing with the landlord on return I would not be recommending this to anyone and to be honest I feel quite let down by the whole experience

About the neighbourhood
There is just so much to do in summer, it often overwhelms our guests, & they unwind by the swimming pool!
Your first Sunday will often be spent visiting the market at ISSIGEAC, a medieval bastide town which is beautiful in its own right, but with the added attraction of a vibrant Sunday Market.
The kids will love Castelnaud, perched high over the River Dordogne: It offers the them a medieval war museum.
Nearby is my favourite Chateau; Chateau Milandes; The home of Josephine Baker, an American Cabaret artist who adopted a child from each continent.
