We were psyched about this place, even though there weren't reviews. From the pictures, it was obvious it was small, and that was fine. It actually was very livable for two. What the review didn't mention was that the mountain view was obstructed by active construction. With no A/C, it was impossible to sleep during the summer nights without the window open. And so it would have been nice if the description had mentioned the bar, loud and open late, directly below the apartment. We also weren't super pleased with the terms- they say if you don't test EVERYTHING in the first day I think? while you're staying, you're liable for the damage. I understand why this is the rule, but it seemed like it would have been pretty ridiculous to run an empty load in the washer, etc. Also, we're all for saving energy, but the dark hallways and stairwells on the short timer were a bit much.
On the up side, hard to beat the location, and it was a good price.

About the neighbourhood
There are fabulous walking and running trails all over the valley, some are world famous and every year Chamonix hosts the ultimate 'Ultra Trail' covering over 154km in August. For hikers this trail is known as Le Tour du Mont Blanc (5+ day walking trip).

The climbing is spectacular with the highlight being the annual Climbing World Championships in July. Mountain biking is very popular for both cross-country and down-hilling trails and the golf course in Chamonix is of a very high standard with excellent facilities. During the summer the alpine rivers swell from the mountain snow and the white water activities really come into their own.

The local buses that run through & around the outskirts of Chamonix town are eco friendly electric, other bus & train services take you further: Les Houches, Servoz, Les Praz, Argentiere & even Vallocine which boarders Switzerland. Other services include: Bus service through Mont Blanc Tunnel to Courmayeur. Private taxis run to other major resorts & of course transfers from Geneva Airport. The lifts & tele-cabines in the valley which take you to fantastic hiking & climbing trails around Mont Blanc, incl the highest lift in Europe, Aiguille du Midi & the Montenvers train takes you to the Mer de Glace, Chamonix's famous glacier.

How to get there
Airport: Geneva: 90.0 km
Ferry: Calais: 990.0 km
FLY: Our recommendation is that you fly to Geneva airport it is only 50 miles to Chamonix and takes little more than an hour. You may choose to hire a car or arrange a transfer. There are many transfer providers, we work with the best & most reliable & are very happy to help arrange transfers directly from the airport to the apartment for you.

TRAIN or BUS: You may choose to travel by train or public bus from the airport. Although this is cheaper, it does not save you much money, the journey takes much longer and you still have to find your own way to the property once you reach Chamonix.

DRIVING: If driving, then from Calais the journey is around 850 miles and with minimal breaks the good motorways will see you in approx. 9 hours.
