Holiday Rental House
Lovely Warm Mountain Hideaway Beautifully Renovated 18th Century Farm House Le Repaire, (the hideout in english) is a beautifully renovated 18th century stone farmhouse. It's tucked away in the Chartreuse mountains just 10km outside historic Grenoble. Virtually completely private. Totally quiet, you can hear a pin drop. This house is the perfect place for a writers retreat or home base for walkers or cyclists. The house is well situated to hiking in the summer and both down-hilll and cross country skiing in the winter. There are 3 ski stations within 20min drive and when there's sufficient snow, you can cross country ski right from the house. The house has high-speed (roughly 20mbps download speed) internet. It's heated with electric and wood. There is a lovely wood burning stove...Lovely Warm Mountain Hideaway Beautifully Renovated 18th Century Farm House Le Repaire, (the hideout in english) is a beautifully renovated 18th century stone farmhouse. It's heated with electric and wood. There is a lovely wood burning stove in the living room. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. Upstairs there are two bedrooms. One bedroom has a king size futon mattress on a tatami platform. It's quite firm. The other bedroom has 2 single beds (a trundle bed in fact). The upstairs bathroom has a large bath tub suitable for two. Downstairs off the living room, there is a bedroom with a double bed and an en-suite bathroom. The kitchen is modern with a glass top halogen stove top and a microwave oven. Plates, glasses, cutlery, cooking utensils, pots and pans are provided, everything you should need. There is a drip coffee maker and an Italian style stove-top espresso maker as well. On the terrace, there is a table and chairs and parasol should you wish to eat outdoors. We always used to love eating out doors whenever we could. The house is suitable for children, however with very young children, we do not have child barriers on the stairs. Well behaved pets are acceptable. There is a television and UK Satellite (FreeSat). Tourist License / Licencia de turismo N °: QUAIX-EN-CHARTREUSE 2018-2More

We visited in sunny June and found Le Repaire an excellent base for our cycling holiday. Fantastic views of the surrounding moutains: absolute peace (even the cows in the adjacent field weren't wering bells!). Ideal for cyclists: the Chartreuse mountains provided a 600m vertical climb...More

Stayed at Le Repaire for a couple nights after our wedding. Wonderful little place tucked away in the mountains near Grenoble. Mr. Grant was very helpful during the booking process and the place was prepared and ready for our arrival.

We stayed at this lovely house for one week. The houses in the neighbourhood are far enough not to be seen, so we had the feeling of being "all by ourselves" which we very much appreciated. The house is cosy and well equipped. We made...More

About the neighbourhood
The area that the house is in is fantastic for hiking in the warm months and skiing in the winter months. If you are a cross country skier (or ski rando skier), it is possible to ski directly from the house when there's enough snow. There are a couple smallish ski stations quite close to the house say less than half hour drive. Across the valley on the other side of Grenoble you have Chamrousse and Les 7 Laux which are pretty decent stations (I prefer Les 7 Laux myself). Within a couple hours drive you have some of the best skiing in the French Alps. Equally, in the warm months, if you get bored walking the trails around the area the house is in, you have some of the best mountain hiking trails of the Alps within your reach for the day. The one thing we never were was bored! Don't l...
How to get there
The closest airport is Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs (GNB) but there are not so many flights into there. 2 other good airports to consider are Lyon-St-Exupery (LYS) 1h15m and Geneva International (GVA) 1h45m. Lyon is usually our choice of airports. It's large enough that it has lots of international flights. There are shuttle buses from all 3 airports to Grenoble train station, from there, it is possible to rent a car (but don't arrive at odd times of the night!) You will need a car. In the winter, sometimes there is deep snow. The roads are always very quickly cleared.
