The apt is located on the secon parallel street to the beach, quieter than the first street next to the beach. The apt is on the ground floor of a small two-storey 1950 villa of two apts. We live on the first/second floor. You reach Serapo beach in 2 minutes but you don't have a view of it from the terrace. To enter the property there is a common alley with some plants/flowers and you are welcome to park your car inside it provided it is a small car (Fiat Panda or similar) not to occupy the passage completely.

About the neighbourhood
Gaeta is not just a beach village but it has a noble interesting history dating back from Roman emperors who loved it for its micro climate and its natural beauties. It is built on an isthm with the sea all around it and mountains at the back. You can visit the old medieval city, Lucio Munatio Planco mausoleum (at the top of Mount Orlando) all walking distance or take a bus to the national archeological museum (12 km) and visit the remains of roman emperor Tiberius summer mansion.
In Gaeta itself there are museums, churches and a lovely Pinacoteca where you can visit always new exhibitions of world wide known artists ( f.e.Burri).
Getting around
Food and especially fresh (blue) fish is daily available at via Indipendenza (walking distance) and also pastry and ice cream shops. You will also find many restaurants and simple trattorie or pizzerie where to eat.
The free beach in high and peak summer season is crowded so it is advisable to pay for a week or daily umbrella and chairs.
Car not needed
How to get there
Airport: Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) : 135.0 km
Railway: Formia: 6.0 km
Trains don't reach Gaeta so once you reach Rome or Naples you should take a train to Formia and from Formia station use a shuttle bus to Gaeta (5 km). From Gaeta you can easily travel (via Formia) to either Rome or Naples (130 and 90 km respectively) for day trip visits. Day tickets are low cost. You could also spend a day in famous Pompei (train to Naples and Circumvesuviana train to Pompei) or visit Capri for a life time experience (train to Naples and boat to Capri island). Visiting Rome for one day using a hop and off bus tour will also be a great experience.
If you have a car you can visit easily more sights around Gaeta like Montecassino abbey, Minturno roman theatre and the temple of Zeus at Terracina.
