About the neighbourhood
The area of 'San Lorenzo' is the best choice to discover the 'real' Rome, it's very near the historic city center and well connected by public transports, it's near the most important University of Italy, the Central Station Termini and mostly it's full of super good restaurants, pubs, farmer markets and shops very popular among both romans and tourists. I can suggest you the best places around for all your necessities.
With a nice walk of 30 minutes you can reach the historic centre of the city, the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, anyway the public transports are very near the apartment, the tram or the bus stops are distant just a 5 minutes walk.
