Interaction with guestsHaus Imperial, Unterer Mattenweg 22, 3920 Zermatt Check-in is at 1500h and check-out at 10h. Because of the logistics of arriving in Zermatt, it is not always possible to arrive and depart exactly at the desired hour. It helps my planning for cleaning and for accommodating late/early arrivals and departures of guests, if you can let me know your estimated arrival and departure times.

Lovely Zermatt apartment in a great location
This is a lovely apartment in a fantastic central but quiet location. It has two good size bedrooms, two bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a nice bath which I think is absolutely essential on a skiing or walking holiday. Each bedroom has its own big balcony so you can catch the sun and one has a lovely view of the Matterhorn. The kitchen is very well equipped with a nice coffee machine and everything you need. There is plenty of room for entertaining. You are just 5 minutes walk from the Gornergrat Railway, and just 3 minutes from the bus stop if you want to ski the Klein Matterhorn side. It’s a good spot to get on as well as the bus is normally empty. Sunnegga is also very convenient. When you stay at Imperial you appreciate the extras that you don’t get in other Zermatt apartments, fresh flowers, a lovely bottle of local dole blanché and great advice and insider tips from the owner Ann on how to make the most of your time in lovely Zermatt. We will be back.

Matterhorn View & Location Fantastic-Family friendly-2 bed & 2 bathrms a rarity in Zermatt.
Haus Imperial -In a nutshell - you will struggle to find better family friendly accommodation with a Matterhorn View from a sunny balcony, within easy reach of just about everything and sleeping 4/5 in proper bedrooms with two bathrooms. Location is everything and Haus Imperial’s location is excellent. We discovered Zermatt 21 years ago and for the past 14 years we have stayed at Haus Imperial - I think that probably says it all. However, being a techno-phobe’ I’ve never written a review. Guess I’d rather you didn’t know about this gem - so hands-off our week please! The apartment was re-modelled to have two bathrooms which is great now the kids are teenagers or perhaps if you’re coming as two couples etc. But not to write a review after so many pleasurable stays would be grossly unfair to Ann -the Landlord. So here goes. Haus Imperial is great accommodation. All as advertised -Simply but very adequately furnished large apartment. 2 proper bedrooms- not fold down beds. Very few apartments can boast the Matterhorn view as seen from Imperial’s balcony. Haus Imperial’s location is just fantastic, I estimate; 100m to ski hire shop (Matterhorn Sport - Riva - 5% discount for online booking) & ski bus stop 300m to good supermarket (Denner), 400m to the famous Gornergrat Cog-mountain railway terminus & Zermatters Ski School meeting point. 500m to the Sunnegga funicular railway if you want to walk -if not - ski-bus it. If you are skiers and we are -(plus we have brought our kids every year since they were born) -this is the end of town you want to be. Ann is the most hospitable Landlord - her pricing is always reasonable & over the years we’ve even enjoyed the odd ski together. Unfortunately, her broken leg prevented that this year but she’s always available. Haus Imperial is definitely Family & Kid Friendly, but adult friendly too. Tucked away from the main bars but within easy access -if that’s your thing. Most importantly for us -going back a few years was that, the apartment is only 500m from an excellent Kindergarten with ball pits and climbing frames -Kinderparadies - they looked after our kids from 3 months-5 years. They are a proper nursery not just a kids club. The apartment building is practically on the valley floor so v few slopes to negotiate with Pushchairs or in ski boots etc. Geologically Zermatt is a ‘V-shaped’ valley -so much of the accommodation is built into the valley sides. Friends have also used Ann’s studio apartment which is immediately next door in Haus Imperial this was great as an ‘over-spill’ & made for ease of socialising but giving them some space too. One of the secrets of Zermatt is that when the wind picks up the Schwarzsee side of the resort can be closed. On windy/bad weather days nearly all the accessible skiing is via the Gornergrat train and the Sunnegga Express funicular- all v close to Haus Imperial If it’s just Haus Imperial you wanted to know about you can probably stop reading now! I do not know if I’m supposed to prattle-on in these reviews about ski schools and how family friendly Zermatt is. But here’s some stuff I wish I’d known rather than accumulated over 21 years staying in Zermatt. Hopefully it’s of use as going somewhere for the first time - especially skiing with kids -can be hard work. Zermatt never ceases to amaze. We are skiers and there’s certainly great & challenging skiing & great mountain restaurants and by restaurants I mean restaurants - you will nearly always have to have booked. Our favourite Chez Verony - fantastic view on a sunny day from the terrace. There are also a few reasonably priced self service restaurants including at Riffelberg where the ski school is. I’m not on the Zermatters ski school payroll honest- I have zero interests - but that ski school have been brilliant - so much so my teenage son wanted extra days tuition this year - I can no longer keep up with him - perhaps that was his plan!? Group Ski school starts on a Mon, min 3 days (320CHF inc lunch - Mar/Apr 2019) then you add days as required (90CHF/day) Ski school is 08:45-15:45, so Mum & Dad get a great ski time too. We have only used Zermatters school but there are many- Summit Sch tend to have more English instructors. We like Zermatters school as it’s jobs for the locals but they also have an exclusive ski park for the real little ones at Riffelberg in the lee of the Matterhorn - just an idilic place to learn to ski, in fact- it’s unparalled. Zermatters use the famous Mountain railways to get there - kids in their own dedicated train ( No mums & Dads allowed)- which our kids loved, perhaps it was the excess sugar consumed as the kids of all nationalities exchange sweets!! I’ve always maintained that there are no bargain basement deals to be had in this town, however, I’ve never been ripped-off & everything is of the highest quality. Rental skis are serviced every week seemingly. The Swiss seem to think of everything. The new gondola to the Klein Matterhorn - highest lift accessible skiing in Europe I believe 12,000’+, is an engineering marvel and hyper efficient. Getting to Zermatt, We use Zurich or Geneva airports to get to ZermattI, but Turin & Milan work too. The train transfers are easy, stations are under the airports in Zurich and Geneva. Change train once in Visp for the scenic railway which terminates in Zermatt. Journey 31/2- 4 hrs depending on connection at Visp. All trains have toilets and most have buffet cars. If your thinking of taking kids you do not pay for them on the trains with a family card. From this year 2019 best prices are bookable 60 days out online ( sbb.ch ), but you can also get transfer passes which allow you to travel anywhere in Switzerland say - airport to resort using any mode of transport, inc boats on the day you arrive. Swiss Tourist office in your country probably issue direct - they do in the Uk. kids ski passes are massively subsidised - free on weekends still I believe and included in Ski school rates to a certain age - 10yrs I think - please check though. You get a 5% discount for booking your ski pass online which you can pick up at the Tourist office in the main square as you get off the train. Book via the Matterhorn Ski Guide App. 5 Franc refundable deposit per pass. My kids wanted me to say that Stephanie’s Crepery is the best on the planet with the Lindt chocolate shop a close second. Typical! Zermatt.ch has everything else you need to know - excellent website. Enjoy.

Very nice spacious well equipped apartment
The apartment has a very specious living room and a nice kitchen. You can see the Matterhorn from the apartment (living room and one bedroom). One bedroom is a bit small but has an en suite bathroom and sufficient wardrobes. The second bedroom is more spacious and also has sufficient wardrobes. Internet connection is good. The ski storage is on the ground floor, so no need to climb stairs. The apartment a few steps up. It is not far from the railway station (less than 10 minutes walk) and about the same to the Sunnega bahn. Going there with the luggage carts from the station is doable (unless there is a lot of snow). The bus is around the corner but at peak hours it is better to take it from the station. There is a Denner supermarket at 5 minutes and the Coop is not far neither.

Great location, friendly hostess
The appartment is only a short walk from the train station, near skibus and shops. Ann (the owner) is very helpful, making sure that her guests have an enjoyable stay. Would we stay again? Yes, we have already been back four times!

Lovely two bed central apartment with two balconies and a fab view
We stayed with family and friends in this apartment and the adjacent Imperial Studio at the end of August 2016. It was unusually warm and we appreciated the fact that we had two balconies which kept the place nice and cool. From the lounge and one of the bedrooms, you have a brilliant view of the Matterhorn and plenty of room to sit outside and appreciate it. There were two bathrooms, one with a bath as well as a shower which is something that is very nice to have after a cold winters day on the mountain. The kitchen was well equipped for those that want to self cater, we don't usually, but we enjoyed the coffee machine and the fast wifi! There were lots of little touches that make the place more of a home than a rental property and, for such a good location, Imperial is surprisingly quiet.

Great Zermatt Apartment
This is a perfect place for a family (up to 5 or 6 I would say) with a great view of the Matterhorn from the back deck. Location is nice in that it is close to the train station and center of town, but just far enough that you miss out on the noise. The owner, Ann, was really easy to communicate with and very responsive to any questions and needs. I especially appreciated being able to have a late checkout when we left (no one arriving the same day) since we were moving a bit slowly at the end of our trip. All in all, very reasonably priced compared to other options (I think I looked at almost every rental in Zermatt), at least for our needs.

Thank you so much, and particularly for highlighting the location, the reasonable price compared to the market, and also for mentioning that I am happy to help guests. Zermatt is such a special place but it's sometimes hard to figure out the logistics, and I am more than happy to help. Look forward to seeing you back in Zermatt soon and thank you again for the very positive review.

Nice, decent vacation apartment in Zermatt
This is the first time we booked a rental via TripAdvisor. There wee a few glitches in the process, but in the end everything went very smoothly. The vacation rental itself is ±standard Swiss fare. Practical, with everything there that one needs. There are two bathrooms, which is nice, and the kitchen is well equipped. Also tow balconies, one with a magnificent view of the Matterhorn. The owner lives in Geneva and Zermatt and obviously cares about her guest's well being. She added a couple really nice touches (a bottle of local wine in the fridge, a bouquet of flowers), a nice surprise upon arrival.
