Villa Eleftherna is a superb rural hideaway, set in an area of magnificent natural beauty, located in the homonym picturesque village of Rethymno. Nestling on a quiet lane in the village, Villa Eleftherna is more than a country cottage or a holiday villa. Built on the highest spot of the village, it offers breathtaking views on the Cretan Sea, Mountain 'Psiloritis' and the whole area. Private but not remote, Villa Eleftherna is next to the village square, where you can find traditional taverns, cafes and a mini-market.

Perfect place for a mixed age group
We spent 8 days at this beautiful house. The owner helped craftsmen to build it, and every detail of its construction, and its appliances, grounds, etc. are perfect, clean, and top quality. The husband and wife who own the home decorated it as their own, but it is uncluttered and very beautiful. The enclosed garden and pool are large; and the cooking area outside is extensive. The owner even came one night and grilled a meal. He brought relatives who were fluent in English to make us comfortable. The house is located in a good spot either to spend the day, walk to the local taverna with good food, etc.; or for short or long day trips. You can walk to ancient ruins and hike down into a gorge; and the city of Rythmeon is a short drive. Large grocery stores are south of the exchange where the major road to Rytheon (no. and south) hits the national highway. A great day trip is to the south shore of Crete on that same road.
I can think of nothing that could be done to make this house and experience better! Eight days went by quickly, and it would take a very long stay to run out of things to do.

Perfect Place to stay with friends or family.
This Villa was the perfect place for holidays with our best friends.
There is Room enough to stay here with 8 adults. A big kitchen, a graet living room and the perfect garden, with pool will make your stay an unforgettable experience.
Several terraces and balconys allow you to have also some time alone.
There is nothing to be desired.
The house, the garden, the pool, the great view and of course the family wich owne this Villa.

excellent hollidays in this wonderfull house
a fantastic family helped us to discover creta, a very nice and clean house in a country where anyone wet met have been very kind. We felt in love with this country, his food and way of life.

A fantastic place in the lower mountains of Kreta with a wunderful nature, a comfortable house with barbecue, pool, sportings, internet (wlan) tv but you won't need it :) etc. and of course a friendly and kind owners family. In one sentence: Go there! You'll never forget!

Paradise on earth!
We spent one week at Villa Eleftherna with my husband, parents, sister, her husband and two young children. We could not have found a better place to be all together, and still the villa is so nice and well designed that you are not walking on each other ! The house is gorgeous, rooms are spacious and very tastefully decorated, everything was well thought! Fully equipped, with swimmming pool, beautiful garden where one can make barbecue and bake pizzas! The village is nice and a good point to visit many of the Cretan treasures. The people taking care of the house and of the guests are just adorable and extremely efficient. We loved it and recommend it very warmly!

If you feel like getting away from it all but still want to spend some quality time with friends or family - Villa Eleftherna is the perfect place! The tranquility up in the mountains where you easily can take a walk in the morning and sort out your thoughts, and still spend the rest of the day by the pool with friends or family or or having a barbecue party in the garden... Can it get any better? We were a 60-year couple (mum and dad), a young family with children under 2 years old and everybody from 6 months to 60 just loved the place! You need a car though if you would want to explore the island or just stop by a shop to by some food. A unique experience with very friendly people
As most already wrote, we can only confirm the different reviews. The house is very well maintained by it s owner, as well as the garden. Upon arrival, we got a basket of fruits, a bottle of raki and wine, a port of honey and a nice set of flowers. During our stay, the house was cleaned twice a week. The owner noticed we didn't had a pump for our inflatables and unexpectedly, he delivered one. The place is really unique, as we think it is the only place in Eleftherna where you can rent a villa. The surroundings are nice, the place is quit. Everything is just positive.

Just Perfect
My husband and I, our son and his Greek girlfriend spent a lovely week at Villa Eleftherna in July. Not only was the villa and its views absolutely beautiful but the location was excellent. We were warmly welcomed by Georgios and his family, they left us a large basket of fresh fruit, a bottle of wine, olive oil,raki and honey.
Hania and Rhethymno are worth a visit with their beautiful venetian ports. Rhethymno has many lovely places to eat around the harbour. A day trip to Mon Preveli and the beaches in the south is also a good. Knossis is an easy hour drive away and mon Arkadi is well worth seeing. The nearby town of Margarites has many ceramic shops and a fantastic taverna with amazing views and food ( business card in villa). The minoan sites near Eleftherna are also interesting.
We thank Georgios for all his helpful advice, his happy company, the many chats in Greek with Alexia and the amazing BBQ that his whole family cooked for us at the villa.

About the neighbourhood
Our villa is located in central Crete in Eleftherna village giving you the advantage to combine mountain and sea. You can make a tour of the villages around or visit some of the most well known beaches on the north coast. The village of Eleftherna is well known because of the archaeological site of Ancient Eleftherna and has about 400 inhabitants today. The surrounding area is quiet, a place where you can relax and feel “away from it all”. The village has one traditional tavern, a few traditional cafes and a mini market!
Given the location of the village and the landscape, there are numerous attractive hiking and cycling routes. The European path E4 crosses the village and passes through behind the building. The villa provides 4 mountain bicycles and light hiking equipment (batons) for free. Visitors can also easily explore the archaeological site of ancient Eleftherna (which is a stone-throw away), Arkadi (7km away), Margarites (6km) the cave of Melidoni (22km away), Zoniana (32km away), Anogia (37km away).
The owner of the villa, George Vasilakis, is an experienced member of the Climbing Club of Rethymno and he will be glad to help with any relevant information on beautiful scenic routes and paths you can walk, ride on the bikes or drive. If you are lucky enough, your stay may coincide with one of the guided trips the Climbing Club organizes around the island (you can participate after arrangement). For the adventure-seekers, you will be given the necessary information when you arrive!

The Villa is located in Eleftherna village. Eleftherna is a village with life and it has some traditional cafeterias and a few taverns where they also offer nice breakfast and a mini market.
The village of Eleftherna is well known because of the archaeological site and the newly built museum of Ancient Eleftherna.

Also we will be on alert in case that you face any problem or lost your way to our villa.
