Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Perfect, just perfect!
We stayed for two nights in Fairydean Mill. The location is nicely tucked away behind a castle, I loved the peace and quite! The house is stunning and has so much character! The room was very pretty, nice comfy bed, and bathroom including a rain shower! Loved the hosts, they were so lovely and made us feel absolutely welcome! On arrival we were met with these gorgeous cupcakes! They were so pretty that we did not want to eat them, but saved them over the weekend! Loved the dressing of the table for breakfast and breakfast itself was super, including home made bread! So much effort, so much detail, it was a delight to stay and I would love to return to experience it again.

Fantastic B and B
David and Mandi are amazing hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for them even supplying freshly made cup cakes on our arrival not forgetting the freshly baked bread for breakfast! We would thoroughly recommend a visit to Fairydean and to the warm hospitality of David and Mandi.

Perfect
This is an idyllic setting within walking distance of Barony Castle Hotel which was convenient, as our son's wedding reception was held there. David and Mandy were great hosts who made us feel very welcome, providing clean and comfortable rooms . We had an excellent cooked breakfast each morning with a wide choice home made breads and lemon curd made by Mandy . If I said it was the best B&B we have every stayed at , it would not be an exaggeration .

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review and especially for giving me the credit for making the bread! Everyone thinks David makes the bread and the breakfast; he's very slow to correct them! We do hope we'll see you again, it was lovely having you stay with us. All the Best to your family. Mandi

Friendly, Clean
Mandi and David were excellent hosts. Accommodation was clean, beds and pillows exceptionally comfy. Everything we needed was in the room, no need to ask for anything. Breakfast was cooked to perfection and ample. Mandi emailed me directions as sat nav doesn't take you to the exact spot, directions were spot on.

Beyond our expectations
Other than having some difficulties in finding the unit, once we arrived, it was worth the time it took. David and Mandy were the most gracious and helpful hosts and the place was clean, modern and as if we were in a four star hotel. The breakfasts were excellent, the accommodations at a much higher level than we ever expected and the surrounding country side was beautiful, quiet and peaceful. We cannot speak highly enough of the experience. Thank you for making this leg our of British Isles tour so memorable.

Beautiful surroundings, brilliant breakfast!
We stayed here for a friend's wedding at Barony Castle Hotel (which is right next door - it was the ideal location!). The rooms are lovely and had everything we needed. The hosts were very friendly, and the breakfast was just what we needed the morning after the night before. It's a very peaceful location and would be ideal for a quiet getaway too. Highly recommended!

About the neighbourhood
Covering about eighteen hundred square miles, the Scottish Borders stretches from the rolling hills and moorland in the west, through gentler valleys to the high agricultural plains of the east, and on to the rocky Berwickshire coastline with its secluded coves and picturesque fishing villages. In the bright spring months, fresh new growth fills the valleys and forests of the Scottish Borders. Enjoy time to spare with the lure of lighter longer summer days or relax in more mellow shades of autumn when mauves and purples tint the moors. Crunch through the crisp frosts of winter, when early morning mist floats over the lowlands, and the snow capped hills sparkle in the distance. Land and sea, hills and moorland all sit happily side by side. Rivers and paths wind their way through untouched natural beauty whilst the more gentle pace of life subtly relaxes and revives you. Seasonal changes await to delight, every day at every turn. The Scottish Borders is truly a destination for all seasons! Edinburgh - bus service available every forty minutes from Eddleston Enjoy a vast variety of things to see and do in Edinburgh and the Lothians and fill your perfect break with trips to castles and distilleries, country parks and excellent restaurants. Edinburgh hosts a number of exciting events all year. Take part in some of the revelry from ceilidhs and rugby games to the spectacular Military Tattoo and world-famous Hogmanay celebrations.
