The only Poole Merchant House still in single private ownership, West End House dominates St James` Square in Poole Old Town, overlooking Poole`s Parish Church. Built in the early 18th Century for the Slade family, reputedly by the Bastard Brothers of Blandford, the house was home to one of Poole`s wealthiest merchant families, with extensive interests in Newfoundland, trading fish, provisions, timber and luxury items between Newfoundland, Poole and the Iberian peninsula. The stone salt urns and the carved pineapples on the pediment of the house hint at both the goods traded and the wealth generated by the family. A thouroughly enjoyable stay. The house is is an excellent location - centrally located and just a short walk away from harbour where we were spoilt for choice with restaurants and other shops.

The house itself was large and well maintained. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and the self contained floor at the top was a great place for a famiy with a baby!
We felt it was almost like being in a hotel as a cleaner came in to make the beds and do a general tidy in the week and there were coffee/tea facilites in the bedrooms.
The children's play room went down a treat with our army of little people and the huge family dining table was more than big eneough to sit all 8 adults and three children comfortably.

The house itself has historic significance and there were many a time passers by would stop and take pictures.

Preferred bookings Saturday to Saturday during peak periods.

The rate includes all linen - bed linen, bath towels and beach towels.

Cots, Highchairs are available on request. A charge of £15 +VAT per cot per week or part thereof applies. The cot will be provided with cot linen and extra towels. A charge of £5 per highchair per week or part thereof applies.

Z-beds can be provided (where space permits) and a charge of £25 +VAT per z-bed per week or part thereof applies.

Please note a 25% non-refundable deposit is required upon booking. The balancing payment is due 8 weeks prior to the holiday.

All major credit and debit cards accepted (subject to handling fee of 2% for credit cards and 2.5% for American Express, no charge for debit cards). Euro cheque payments accepted (subject to handling charge).

Refundable Damage Deposit is required (between £150 and £250 - higher for bookings over one month in duration).
