It is a bird watchers delight with frequent visitors including nut hatches, great spotted woodpeckers, tree creepers, buzzard, sparrow hawk and tawny owl as well as the usual common species. The newly opened cycle trails and tunnels along the former railway line are easily accessible from this base. For the less active it is an ideal central location for visiting all the major attractions in Derbyshire including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Buxton Opera House, Bakewell, Lathkill Dale and all the numerous picturesque villages in the area. The area around Brushfield has been farmed since Neolithic times. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Gorgeous Peak District weekend at Albertine Barn
A group of 5 of us stayed in Albertine Barn for a long weekend. We had a wonderful time - the barn is cosy and characterful, with gorgeous views from the lounge and outside seating area across the dale and hillside. There are lots of beautiful walks on the doorstep - we especially loved the Monsal Dale walk by the river. Brian and Julie live just across the yard and were very helpful, being on hand with any queries we had. I fully expect we'll be back!

Lovely comfortable cottage to explore the Peak District
This is a really wonderful holiday cottage which is thoughtfully equipped with anything on needs for a comfortable home away from home. It is very quiet and in a perfect position to explore the Peak District. The spacious sitting room with its log burning stove was a comfortable place to spend time - even when the weather is not particularly warm or dry. Brian and Julie are excellent hosts and always responsive to any enquiries. We will definitely return.

Lovely spacious cottage in beautiful scenery
We enjoyed our stay in this quiet location with walks from the door. Also well placed for our trips out to Chatsworth, Eyam, Bakewell and Tideswell. All places and cafes and pubs very dog friendly too. The cottage is well equipped, warm and comfortable. We like large rooms so were particularly fond of the spacious sitting room with its efficient wood burner.

About the neighbourhood
Brushfield is in an ideal location in the heart of the White Peak – the limestone area of the Peak National Park. The towns of Buxton and Bakewell are only about ten minutes drive away and each offers excellent facilities with its own unique atmosphere. There are many excellent picturesque walks from the doorstep. Monsal Dale, with its famous trail, Millers Dale and High Dale are only a short walk away. Walkers can enjoy spectacular views and the opportunity to observe an abundance of wild flowers, animals and bird life. Middle Farm Holiday Cottages provides a good all year round base for a full range of activities including; rock climbing, caving, horse riding, gliding, fishing, mountain biking, golf and swimming.
Getting around
Ashford in the Water, just down the road from Brushfield, is a delightful traditional Derbyshire village with all the basic amenities including post office, village store / delicatessen, hotel, restaurant and public house. Enjoy a stroll by the river and across the Sheepwash bridge and be sure to visit the beautiful Church which dates back hundreds of years. Bakewell, capital of the Peak District is only a few miles away. Agriculture is still the basic activity and the Monday cattle market is one of the largest in the country. It is an attractive market town, so pop in for lunch, take a walk by the river, visit the Bakewell Pudding shop or do a little shopping, it’s well worth a visit!

How to get there
Directions to Albertine are as follows: from Bakewell follow the A6 in a northwesterly direction towards Buxton. After two miles, you bypass Ashford in the Water on the right, the road follows the course of the river for about another two miles and then starts to climb its way uphill through a wooded dale. Just about a ¼ mile before a section of dual carriageway begins you will see the signpost for Brushfield on your right. Take this single-track road up the hillside (ignore blue road sign that says unsuitable for motors – this is to deter mistaken Sat. Nav. drivers) and negotiate the rising hairpin bend. After ¼ mile you come to a Y junction. Bear left at this point, drive between the grit-stone gateposts and turn immediately right. Maigold cottage is the single storey property at top of court-yard. From Buxton follow the A6 in a southeasterly direction for about 5 miles. A section of dual carriageway bypasses the village of Taddington on your right. The turn off for Brushfield is signposted on the left about ¼ mile after the end of the dual carriageway section. (Continue as above).
