The fully-fitted and exceptionally well equipped kitchen leads to a Victorian-style conservatory and dining room with an 8 foot square table that seats 12 to 14. It is the perfect house for family and friends gatherings. Wellwood lodge is ideally located for exploring this unique and attractive area of England's Peak district. Countryside forms the backdrop and far reaching views are from the front windows. A short walk from the house takes you to heather moorlands, woods and wetlands. No car? not a problem with train and buses into the town centre. Buxton's beauty is a popular choice for weddings, the house is in walking distance of the Palace Hotel, Old Hall Hotel, Devonshire Dome and Pavilion Gardens, all popular reception venues. We have had brides leave from our door for their big day, families delighted to have a venue where they can relax informally together without the constraints of a hotel. The house is on a hillside with front and enclosed rear garden with a small lawn. For a small fee we allow owners to bring their well behaved dogs to enjoy their holiday too. Buxton's vibrant and cosmopolitan town centre is just 10 minutes on foot. I will personally welcome my visitors and endeavor to point you in the direction of essential things to do and see. As a resident since childhood I am an enthusiast of my beautiful town, the specialist shops within the Cavendish arcade the former spa bathing area, the extensive choice of places to sample the local gastronomic delights, the wonderful Opera house and the stunning Pooles cavern which is rated as England's finest show cavern are just a few of the highlights. The beautifully kept 23 acre Pavilion gardens is a wonderful place for all ages to enjoy a fun filled time. (Further information can be found under the heading Buxton on this entry)

Beautiful, comfortable house, perfect for a big family gathering
Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend! Perfect for our extended family gathering - such a beautiful house and so well looked after - really welcoming, kind gifts on arrival, so clean and cosy, with a really well-equipped kitchen (so important for foodies like us!) The kids (and adults!) loved the games room too. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the rooms all beautiful. Lots of useful info about the area and a fantastic location - so easy to wander into Buxton and back. Excellent communication from Susan the host both prior to arrival and during our stay. We all said we would definitely return and would highly recommend to others. Thanks so much!

Lovely short break
Lovely house for any kind of gathering! We are a large friend group of young adults on our first group holiday. Budgets were tight, but this place was amongst the best price we could find, not that you could tell from the stunning location and comfortable interior. Would recommend to anyone!

Family holiday
We try to meet for a yearly holiday as a extended family. I have to say that this was the best house we have rented in the past few years. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed. The dining room with its large square table was ideal for family meals, enabling all of us to see everyone and chat. Especially useful was the Lazy Susan. Whilst we prepared meals, we were able to keep an eye on the children playing safely in the conservatory. All the bedrooms were comfortable and nicely decorated with plenty of bathroom facilities, so no queues. The house is well positioned on the hill overlooking Buxton. Garages and good parking facilities were an added bonus.

What a fabulous house! My friends and I had a great time. The house is beautifully decorated and furnished. I felt very grand sleeping in the 4 poster bed! Great location too. The large dining table was perfect as was everything else. Thanks again.

New Year 2020 @ Wellwood Lodge Buxton
We were a party of 13, 8 adults, 5 children and a dog who spent new year at Wellwood Lodge in Buxton. This is a well-appointed house for large parties situated conveniently for exploring the Peaks. We loved the fact it was walking distance to Buxton which has a railway line which is well connected to major towns like Manchester which we also visited. The welcome pack of fresh bread, wine and confectionary was a lovely touch and Susan was there to greet us and explain everything on arrival. The only downside was having to strip the beds at the end of the stay which for what we paid we didn’t expect to have to do.

Ideal holiday home for large family gathering
Our party consisted of eleven adults, two toddlers, one baby and two small dogs. We wanted lovely accommodation in a lovely area that could cater for our family gathering. We found that Wellwood Lodge met our requirements. We found the property ideal for a large group in many ways. When catering for a large group you will find that you do need to use the two range ovens and the built-in oven at the same time and you do need to use the six range hobs. You appreciate mountains of mugs and plates allowing you to not stress about remembering to run the dishwasher. Everything you may need is there, pots, pans, roasting tins, casseroles, even down to tea towels, cleaning aids and salt and pepper. Bedrooms are generous, the lounge is large and thirteen fit round the dining room table. The conservatory is a pleasant ‘retreat’ and convenient for keeping an eye on the dogs in the enclosed gardens. The double garage (with electric doors) is massive and there is space for a further two cars to park off road in front of the garage. The need to share bathrooms was an initial concern but worked well with our house full of people. The owner, Susan, kept us well informed and met us shortly after arrival to explain all the basics. Susan also provided some ‘welcome’ treats and surprises but we will leave you to experience those yourself. The location is excellent for exploring both on foot and by car. There is so much to see and do in the local vicinity and the larger region, you will find a week’s stay is not long enough! Thank you for the opportunity to stay in such a nice family home.

Brilliant for our family celebration
We booked Wellwood Lodge for a family special birthday celebration. Lounge is spacious. Kitchen v well equipped. Bedrooms are all large and nice. Decor is lovely. It’s a 10 min stroll to all bars and restaurants in Buxton. Loads to do in the local area. We took our dogs and just around the corner it opens up into woodland and heath and lovely dog walking country. Communication was great and we found Susan very helpful. Would thoroughly recommend for any celebration with 10-12 people.

Spacious but still cosy
Just spent our annual family gathering at Wellwood Lodge. There were ten of us and a dog. The house was clean, warm and well equipped. It is a bonus that the owner lives nearby and she left some very nice welcome goodies for us. We thought the layout of the house worked really well for us. The lounge is enormous with lots of seating, we had a group playing games at one end, a jigsaw in progress at the other end and sport on the TV too. The dining room table is square and seats twelve so meal times are very sociable. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need. There is also a conservatory and games room.

About the neighbourhood
Built on the River Wye, and overlooked by Axe Edge Moor, Buxton has a history as a spa town due to its geothermal spring which rises at a constant temperature of 28 °C. The spring waters are piped to St Ann's Well on the historic Georgian Crescent where anyone can take the water. Buxton is the highest market town in England, holding markets on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the year. The beautiful Pavilion Gardens are enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. The combination of walks, lakes, water fowl, play areas and miniature train ensure that they remain a firm favourite with the whole family. You may also like to consider indulging in spa treatment therapy at the nearby Devonshire Dome within the University buildings. It is one of the most dramatic spaces in Britain and the largest unsupported dome in Europe. Built in 1779 by the 5th Duke of Devonshire, this magnificent grade II* listed building has dominated the Buxton sky line ever since, open to the public at most times to gaze in awe at the internal dome and listen to the acoustics over a cup of coffee perhaps. indulge in a little retail therapy at the specialist shops within the Cavendish arcade, the former spa bathing area. There is an extensive choice of places to eat to suit all tastes and pockets. The wonderful Opera house a salute to Frank Matcham's inspiration in 1903 delivers a varied programme of drama, concerts, stand up comedians throughout the year. Pooles Cavern & Buxton Country Park. This magnificent natural cavern features spectacular stalactites and crystal formations. Regular guided tours take you through spacious, well lit chambers where you will be introduced to Derbyshires largest stalactite and the unique poached egg stalagmites, it is rated as England's finest show cavern. The surrounding Country Park features woodland trails up to Solomon's temple, stunning 360 degree panoramic views are well worth the climb! With the gathering fame and quality of its summer festival and the new development surrounding the re-opening of the pump rooms and Crescent these are exciting times for local and visitor alike. Though still a place of enduring elegance and peacefulness, modern Buxton pulses with modern cultural activity. Buxton makes a great base for a Derbyshire holiday ideally located within half an hour of a large number of attractions for all age groups and interests. Walking costs nothing and this stunning area brings such delight with its very varied scenery within short distances.
