Close by is Poole's Cavern and Solomon's Temple situated in Grin Low Country Park. The whole area is surrounded by the beautiful Peak District countryside with Bakewell, Castleton, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Lyme Park all within a short car or bus journey. Buxton has its own railway station and is well served by buses to Manchester Airport and out into the countryside. Until the early 1900s Smithys Cottage had been the home of the local blacksmith for several hundred years - though now refurbished into comfortable accommodation it still retains much of its old period charm: - a large oak beam fireplace with a cast iron open fire. - 2' thick limestone walls with deep recessed windows - walls that slope outwards downstairs and inwards upstairs - hardly a "right angle" in the house to be found! An ideal location to explore the surrounding Peak District during the day and within a short evening walking distance to many good pubs and restaurants.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Roaming and relaxation
Smithy cottage is the perfect traditional cottage to use as a base to roam and take in all the sites of Buxton and the surrounding regions of the Peak District. A homely cottage, once the door closes on the world, , you are instantly very relaxed and away from the hussle and bussle of life. The owner is friendly, helpful, with great communication and support. We will definitely be returning.

Excellent in all respects
This was the perfect cottage - well equipped, with all mod cons (notwithstanding its interesting historical background and location). It is within easy reach of all Buxton's amenities, with a plethora of good pubs and restaurants within walking distance), but has the bonus of a parking space. The garden area is also attractive and comes into its own if the weather allows.

Cosy cottage, a real home from home!
Lovely week staying in Smithys Cottage. A lovely, cosy, quaint cottage with everything you need. Spotlessly clean, secure parking, wonderful outside area. Ideal location with shops, pubs and attractions within walking distance. Thoughtful touches by the owners on arrival and excellent communication by the owners after booking. I cannot fault the cottage and would highly recommend it for a couple or family of three! Would love to stay again!

Clean, comfortable and cosy.
A perfect central Buxton location is just one of the good things about this cottage. Off road parking is an added benefit. The cottage was clean, tidy and very comfortable. We stayed for a week and felt completely at home. This makes an ideal base for exploring Buxton and the surrounding area. The service from the owner was great, with contact both prior and after our visit. We are already looking to return as we haven't completed our exploration of the area. I would fully recommend Smithy's Cottage as a place to stay.

Snug and cozy
I travelled on a budget and alone, Smithy's Cottage is the best cottage I've found at this price point so far and I felt very safe and secure there. The cottage is snug, warm and comfy. It was spotless, the parking/courtyard a plus, a lot of thought has gone into kitting the cottage out with anything you might need. The welcome pack was really appreciated after being caught in the storms. The hustle and bustle of Buxton is only a short walk away, and there is plenty to do in the surrounding area.

The cottage is clean and comfortable in a very central place.
The location is central to the town but not noisy. Clean and well stocked, we have stayed numerous times and hope to visit again. A walk around the Pavilion Gardens is a must and if you are into rambling, there are some brilliant walks from the cottage and further afield from the Bakewell area. Public transport is reliable which was good for us as we don't have a car!

Thank you for leaving a review. As you say Buxton is well served with its own railway station and numerous buses that go to so many areas of interest. There is no need to have a car. If you get a train to Macclesfield you can travel to Buxton on the no.58 which takes you via The Cat & Fiddle. A real helter skelter ride and great scenery. Plus it drops you off almost at the door on West Road. We are pleased that you keep returning. There is always something new to discover in this area.

A cosy very comfortable cottage in a really good location
The cottage is a few minutes walk from the centre of Buxton. It has excellent parking and all the amenities, entertainment venues and pubs and restaurants are within a short walking distance, yet the cottage itself is in a quiet area. Buxton is a wonderful spa town with a lovely park and Matcham theatre in its centre. Further afield is the Peak District and Manchester is an hour's train ride away. The cottage and the location are perfect for a great holiday.

Thank you for your review. The thick stone walls keeps the cottage nice and cool during hot summer days but also retains the heat in colder weather keeping the cottage nice and cosy during the winter months. We hope you will consider staying again in the future. Pam

We found ‘Smithy’s Cottage’ to be a perfect holiday let.
We found ‘Smithy’s Cottage’ to be a perfect holiday let. Unlike so may other lets we have stayed in it was very well equipped, spotlessly clean and with no sign of the damp mustiness we have so often encounter. The accommodation is more like someone’s cosy home than a rental property. Pam (the owner) kept in touch via text / email giving us much useful local information on local events, etc. Excellent quiet location, with LITERALLY a two minute walk to local shops, pubs, etc. and a very short drive or walk to the dales. We would not hesitate in re-booking should we revisit the Peak District.

Lovely relaxing holiday
Second time I've stayed here. Really close to the market square which has a few convenience stores on it, and a short walk from Buxton Park, Opera house etc. It's a nice home away from home.
