Only a short walk to the Market Place, Museum Art Gallery, Pavilion Gardens, Opera House and main shopping area where there are plenty of restaurants, pubs and takeaways to choose from. Close by is Poole's Cavern and Solomon's Temple situated in Grin Low Country Park. The whole area is surrounded by the beautiful Peak District countryside with Bakewell, Castleton, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Lyme Park all within a short car or bus journey. Buxton has its own railway station and is well served by buses to Manchester Airport and out into the countryside. Until the early 1900s Smithys Cottage had been the home of the local blacksmith for several hundred years - though now refurbished into comfortable accommodation it still retains much of its old period charm: - a large oak beam fireplace with a cast iron open fire. - 2' thick limestone walls with deep recessed windows - walls that slope outwards downstairs and inwards upstairs - hardly a "right angle" in the house to be found! An ideal location to explore the surrounding Peak District during the day and within a short evening walking distance to many good pubs and restaurants.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

The place to stay in Buxton
What a beautiful cottage, so much character, very central and providing all we could need for our stay. There wasn't anything we found that could have improved this property, the owners had thought of everything. We had unseasonably cold weather for the end of April but what a welcome home at the end of the day to light a fire in the cosy lounge. Having parking available was great as Buxton provided so much to do that we could leave the car safely secured when not being used. Pavilion Park is a great place to visit, The Discover Buxton Tram Co. starts from there which a brilliant way to see the town and know where to re-visit at leisure. As our weather didn't allow much walking, we would definitely come back to Smithy's Cottage when we next have want to see the beautiful countryside of the Peak District

Thank you for your review. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Buxton does have plenty to keep you busy.and lots of walks from the cottage without using a car and convenient buses to take you out further afield.

smithys cottage was faultless
Arrived here the week when heavy snow was forecast and came here hoping for the best, but eventually had to give in to the weather and went home after four days. But this was no slight on the cottage which was wonderful and will definitely be going back again to get the full benefit. Pam made our booking so easy by phone and going back to her cottage is a no brainer.

Thank you for your review. We hope that next time you visit Buxton the weather will be better. You certainly got the worst weather we have had in many years. This area is so lovely and so much attractive scenery to see so close by. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Best wishes. Pam

Charming cottage tucked away yet handy for everything
An unspoilt cottage with some history in a secluded street with no through-traffic. Cosy inside with plenty of character. All conveniences provided and ready on arrival, good clear communication in advance from owner. Excellent in every respect.

Beautiful cosy cottage
Very charming cottage, lovely and cosy - home away from home. Very close to all the amenities in Buxton - excellent location. It very quiet at night even though it's close to all the local pubs and restaurants. We have been twice now and both times, it was a very pleasant and enjoyable stay (this year we even got engaged here!) We certainly recommend.
