About the neighbourhood
The historic market town of Buxton nestles in the Derbyshire hills and at a height of 1,000 feet above sea level it is one of England's highest towns. It has a long history as a spa town due to its geothermal spring which rises at a constant temperature of 28 °C. It was initially developed by the Romans around AD 78, when the settlement was known as Aquae Arnemetiae, or the spa of the goddess of the grove. Buxton has some lovely buildings - notably John Carr's Georgian Crescent and the Opera House, designed by Frank Matcham (architect of many of London's finest theatres). It also has a thriving music and arts festival each summer. The town is easily navigated by foot (if you can cope with the odd hill) and benefits from a direct train service into Manchester. Getting around

The house is 10-15 minutes walk from Buxton Railway Station which has direct trains into Manchester Piccadilly Station. Buxton Market Place is 2 minutes walk away - from here there are a wide range of bus services to the local towns, Sheffield, Manchester and (direct) to Manchester Airport.
