Lovely Buxton
Super place to stay - we had a lovely short break. Clean and well equipped with great eco credentials and an attentive host. Very close to the Pavilion Gardens which were beautiful in their autumn glory. Lovely welcome basket including a massive loaf of homemade bread which was awesome! I'd definitely recommend The Servants Quarters and we hope to return.

Perfect for Me
I've just returned from my second consecutive late summer holiday at The Servants Quarters. It is ideal for me; with great accommodation and central to the best that Buxton has to offer. Buxton is simply wonderful - friendly people, historic sites and terrific pubs and restaurants. I had a wonderful week of walking and cycling and the weather was surprisingly kind. Pete and Catherine, the hosts are as helpful as anyone could be and I have every intention of coming back.

Excellent, spacious accommodation
We really enjoyed our stay at the Servants' Quarters. The accommodation was excellent and close to the town's many attractions, including the Pavilion Gardens, which are just down the road. The owner, Pete, was very helpful and informative. Buxton itself is a lovely place, being a good base for walking and cycling. We'd definitely come to the Servants' Quarters again.

The perfect Peak District retreat
We have stayed at the Servants Quarters twice now. Once last June and have just returned this year. The cottage is immaculately clean as are all the crockery, cutlery, bed linen and towels. As others have stated the cottage is on a residential street with most if not all local people hoping to park on the road outside or near to their homes. The plus sides to the parking are that the on street parking is free and unlimited, there was only one occasion where we were unable to find a space near to the Servants Quarters and then just parked in the next street. The second plus is that without exception we found all the local people to be friendly and helpful and not in anyway begrudging of strangers taking their parking spot. The property is literally two minutes easy stroll from a large beautiful public park which is well cared for and clearly loved by residents and visitors alike. The town is effectively on two levels (higher and lower), with both parts enjoying their own selection of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants. Nearby (2mins walk), is a Sainsburys local and several other shops. The Olde Sun Inn is also within 2 minutes walk and is a friendly pub with lots of character, it is an old coaching inn and has a limited but adequate menu with good size portions. We ate here several times and were completely satisfied with the meal, the price and the service. Whilst mentioning eating I would be remiss not to mention the Simply Thai Restaurant which is in the lower part of town, this is probably the best Thai restaurant we have been to, good value and super friendly staff but it may pay to book. The lower part of town is easily reached on foot by using the upper path in the park which is wide and level. This leads to the Crecent which is close to Simply Thai. We found this to be the easiest route home as well, having only a short steep incline to negotiate at the end. Buxton is also well placed for days out being the hub with main and secondary roads leading out to the Peak District and nearby towns in several directions. We have been to Bakewell, Matlock, chatsworth House, Hardwicke Hall, the Goyt Valley and more, all were within half an hour comfortable drive. There is a rail station with direct line to Manchester and numerous local and district bus services. We used the buses several times and found the drivers to be friendly and helpful. The owners of Servants Quarters, Pete and Catherine are on hand to willingly help with any eventuality. The Goyt Valley has some remarkable views on the drive through the Goyt River valley, passed a reservoir and eventually leading back to Buxton on a different road. We enjoyed this immensely with the caveat that the road from the top of the valley leading down is narrow with passing places and some hill turns with reduced view of the road during the turn, but nothing really too challenging. Equally amazing views are obtained on the generally good main road from Buxton to Leek, about twenty minutes each way with a favourable wind and no tractors.

Ideal base for exploring the Peak District and re-uniting with family who live in the north of England.
We are originally from Manchester and pre Covid we had booked to stay in the servants quarter for 3 weeks and meet up with our family over this period. Post Covid we had to reduce our stay to one week. What we thought would be an ideal base exceeded our expectations. We arrived by train and Pete our host kindly picked us up at the station and after a short (unexpected) tour of Buxton he delivered us the the Servants Quarters. The facility immediately felt like home, very clean, high quality furnishings. kitchen well equipped and a surprise welcome package that meant we didn't need to rush out to shop for provisions. Over the next week our accommodation proved the ideal base as we had expected, all within walkable distance to 3 supermarkets over a dozen pubs and restaurants and an easy walk into both town and the nearby Poole's cavern (i recommend a visit it wont disappoint). Also during our stay there was a festival in town with over 30 Animated Dinosaurs and various musical shows all in the center of town. Once our visitors arrived we were able to venture out into the Peak district and Bakewell id definitely worth a visit. Again the homeliness of the place shone through as we played cards and drank wine and reminisced in the evening in the kitchen after an enjoyable day. Lastly I would like to thank Pete for his attentiveness during our visit Kind Regards Sue and Peter

Perfect location for town and exploring Derbyshire
This is a super holiday property. Its in an ideal location for the town and also for exploring wider in Derbyshire. Really well equipped, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The little touches are great, lovely welcome pack including Wine, cake and milk and a Delonghi coffee machine was much appreciated. Pete made us very welcome and was readily available should we need him, excellent lunch recommendation as well, try Lubens on Hall bank. Recommended with a capital R.

Lovely property, great location......a gem!
We chose the Servants Quarters based on location and previous reviews..and were not disppointed!! it was just as people had reviewed..an absolute gem. Just a short walk to the town centre, Opera House & Pavilions, via the Gardens or main road. Also many pubs and places to eat a couple of minutes away....Great location for exploring by car too.....visited Goyt Valley, Bakewell, Monsal Trail and Mam Tor, with the longest journey taking less than 30 mins! The property was very spacious over three floors, very clean and had everything needed for our stay. The only minor "gripe" was the parking lottery as there is no designated parking space. We made a bit of a game of it.....one day we did manage to park right outside, but normally it would be somewhere on the same street, or as on couple of occasions, an adjacent street. No biggie though, price you pay for a central location, but thought i should point it out. Pete was the perfect host...very friendly & helpful, with great communications both before and during our stay...thanks Pete! (and sorry about the wine glass!). Would love to return and wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Servants Quarters for anyone planning a Peak District vacation.

Perfect holiday cottage
Stayed for a week in March 2022. Pete was an excellent host. Booked very smoothly over the phone, fantastic welcome hamper and posted our wash bag home when we forgot it. The property was superb. We stayed with our 7 month old, and the study area was perfect for setting up the cot. Close by but not in our room. Well fitted out kitchen and cosy living room. And a very short walk from pavilion gardens. Planning to go back again.

Ideal location for our short break
We had booked an evening at the Opera House and wanted somewhere nearby to stay for a few nights. The Servants Quarters were very handy for walking into town and we didn't need to use the car during our stay. Pete was an excellent host, making sure we had everything we needed. The house itself was warm, very clean and homely, and having the second floor was great as our daughter felt like she had her own space. Kitchen very well equipped, hot powerful shower and lovely comfortable HUGE bed (ours now feels very small!). Thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Buxton thank you.

About the neighbourhood
The historic market town of Buxton nestles in the Derbyshire hills and at a height of 1,000 feet above sea level it is one of England's highest towns. It has a long history as a spa town due to its geothermal spring which rises at a constant temperature of 28 °C. It was initially developed by the Romans around AD 78, when the settlement was known as Aquae Arnemetiae, or the spa of the goddess of the grove. Buxton has some lovely buildings - notably John Carr's Georgian Crescent and the Opera House, designed by Frank Matcham (architect of many of London's finest theatres). It also has a thriving music and arts festival each summer. The town is easily navigated by foot (if you can cope with the odd hill) and benefits from a direct train service into Manchester. The town is also well served by buses to Derby, Nottingham, Sheffield, Manchester and the surrounding National Park.
Getting around
The Servants' Quarters is located right in the centre of Buxton, just a road away from the picturesque Pavilion Gardens and Opera House. You can easily walk to the majority of the attractions, shops and restaurants Buxton has to offer. The house is 10-15 minutes walk from Buxton Railway Station which has direct trains into Manchester Piccadilly Station. Buxton Market Place is 2 minutes walk away - from here there are a wide range of bus services to the local towns, Sheffield, Manchester and (direct) to Manchester Airport.

How to get there
Buxton is surrounded by the glorious Peak District National Park. If travelling by car why not stop off for a short walk, take in a view or visit one of the areas stately homes (Chatsworth, Haddon, Keddleston, Lyme Park). For those travelling from London the nearest Mainline train station is 12 miles away in Macclesfield (1 hour 50 mins direct from London Euston). The No. 58 bus takes you over the hills into Buxton on the Cat and Fiddle road - one of the most stunning routes in the area.
