Fernyford Barn is a luxury, fully equipped self-catering accommodation set on a working farm and run by our family. It is the ideal accommodation for a relaxing country holiday - set in the glorious Peak District countryside. Perfect for walking, cycling, bird watching and the many attractions of the Peak District including Bakewell, Buxton, Chatsworth House and Alton Towers. Fernyford is a great place to get a feel of what life is like on a working farm. The farm enterprises consist of a herd of 20 Belted Galloway cows with followers and a flock of 200 Swaledale ewes with the emphasis being the production of top quality breeding stock. We also have some free-range chickens, two friendly Collie dogs Liz and Skye and Sparkle, the cat. The latest news: We have become the proud owners of 'the world's cutest sheep” - the first VALAIS BLACKNOSE SHEEP in Middle England here at Fernyford Farm, in the heart of Peak District!

Interaction with guestsFernyford offers a perfect balance between being able to completely unwind, or, if you prefer, getting involved with the day to day life of a working farm! We will be happy to offer our guests the opportunity to experience seeing the livestock on the farm, the different farming operations throughout the year and to taste quality meat produced on the holding. Fernyford Farm is a traditional farm, and we love living here. This is a great part of the world, and we would really enjoy being able to share it with our guests. So, we look forward to welcoming you here on the farm! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Getting away from it all!
A lovely relaxing week Staying in a home from home property. Everything you could ask for in a holiday home. Immaculately clean (and I AM fussy!) comfortable bed, cosy and quiet. The countryside is amazingly beautiful - all in all a great holiday!

Perfect farm break
We have stayed in many self catering cottages over 30 years and this is the best equipped cottage we have ever stayed in! The location is great, Dorota, Neil and Barney very welcoming, beds comfy, shower amazing, and a huge TV screen. Our 10 year old son loves animals, and having the chance to meet and feed the dogs, cows, sheep and chickens made the holiday extra special. When he woke up on the last day his first words were 'I don't want to go home'!

Relaxed cottage in peaceful location
Dorota and Neil were friendly, gave us a warm welcome and were very hospitable. The cottage is on a farm surrounded by beautiful open countryside, within an environment that is calm and relaxed. The style of the cottage is modern, but does have the character of a traditional country feel to it and is spacious and has a cosy and relaxed atmosphere that is perfect for unwinding after a day exploring the magnificence of various places in and around the Peak District. The beds gave us a comfortable nights sleep and in the cottage was good Wifi, a big TV and a good selection of DVDs, as well as a selection of some books we could read. In the kitchen, you have all that you would require. The dogs Liz and Skye are very friendly and in their way were welcoming, as was Sparkle the cat who did on occasions drop by to say hello. It is truly a unique place and it made for a wonderful holiday and myself and my family hope to return in the near future.

A very enjoyable farm visit for our family
We spent 3 nights in the converted barn and had a very enjoyable time both on the farm and driving around the peaks. The converted barn is a wonderful accommodation and we were happy to spend our evenings and breakfast there. We compared prices that we book and this accommodation is extremely well priced for the level of comfort. The location was great for us. Easy to get to, close to the major peak sites, but extremely peaceful at night. The stars looked great from the patio of the accommodation.

Absolutely magical, cannot recommend highly enough.
This delightful renovated barn is absolutely perfect in every way. We are sorely tempted to move in. The furnishings are solid, the decor tasteful with muted taupes and cosy furnishings, the carpentry is all custom made from the original beams, the kitchen is equipped with everything you could possible wish for, the beds are wide and comfortable, and the shower is top quality. What really makes the stay utterly magical is the warm-hearted welcome from the entire family. When we got stuck in snow, Neil, Dorota and their children came to tow us out, with everyone happily heaving and pushing despite the weather conditions. The children are an absolute delight and showed us round the farm, eagerly explaining how they tend to the animals, and they even took us sledging. Neil and Dorota are warm and absolutely fascinating people. Neil is almost too humble to admit he is actually a sheep shearing champion and has represented England internationally. Dorota is a fantastic cook and interior designer (as is immediately apparent from the renovation of the barn) and a very talented photographer. They sell the meat from the livestock they raise - it is all delicious, especially the sirloin steak. We now have a freezer bulging with venison burgers and 'Beltie' mince - but not for long! We were truly sad to leave and cannot wait to return.

Wonderful house, wonderful hosts.
We have visited this holiday home four times over the last six years. We return because of Neil and Dorota. Dorata's eye for design is evident in the beautifully appointed property and if you think your job is hard, spend a day watching Neil out in the field with his sheepdogs at 7:00 then driving tractors with bales of hay later at 22:00. In between, Neil and Dorota will be feeding the animals, treating the cattle, shearing the sheep and even running their own butchers - yes you buy the farms own meat and cook it on the cottages own bbq. There is plenty to do on the farm - walking, wandering round looking at a working farm, spending time with the farm animals including Liz and Skye, the sheepdogs or just enjoying the house. For the kids there is a playground behind the cottage with swings, tree house and 140m zip wire. Further afield there is Alton Towers (30mins), Ilum Hall, Mam Tor, Owl and otter santuary (30mins), Blue John caves, Abraham Heights as well as tonnes of walks and cycle and boat hire places. You won't be bored! You'll love it. David.

Great Property in a lovely location
We stayed at Fernyford Barn in Mid July. We had seen good reviews on tripadviser and liked everything that we saw in relation to the barn. I have to say that when we arrived the barn more than lived up to our expectations. The barn is immaculate, it is very clean and the quality of the fixtures and fittings are excellent. Everything that you need us supplied, it really is of high quality. Externally there is a lovely stone paved area to the side and rear with beautiful wild flowers which makes it a charming area to sit out and relax in. We also had the pleasure of 5 swiss vallais sheep on the grassed area behind the barn. The farm is a lovely place to stay. Neil and Dorota are a very nice couple, and work very hard on the farm and the barn is a credit to them. I would have no hesitation in recomending Fernyford Barn.

In seven years visiting UK & staying in cottages this was one of the best.
Well designed, quiet, comfortable cottage with every amenity. Perfect outdoor area to relax in with a glass of wine after a day's outing, and most importantly a wonderful host family.

How to get there
We would recommend approaching from Longnor, Warslow or the A53 (which is the Leek to Buxton road), or through the village of Thorncliffe. Do not rely 100% on sat nav. It will take you to Frost Lane (and then Little Fernyford Farm) which is half a mile north of our driveway. Please note that Fernyford Barn is situated at Big Fernyford Farm, and not Little Fernyford, which is quite close geographically, but accessed by a different road.
