Holiday Rental House -
8 Bedrooms, 7 Bathrooms , Sleeps 17
Salcombe, Devon, England
The Wood is a huge, handsome, detached house, set high looking over South Sands. It has the most sensational views along the estuary and stands in 1½ acres of steep, mature wooded garden (small pond). Numerous shallow steps lead down through the garden to a private footpath and the beach (100 steep yards away). Around the house and in the gardens there are several flat sunbathing areas and a lovely mixture of neat flowering shrubs and wildness. A private lane leads to the house and parking area/garage and from there, 17 steps down to front door. Elegant hall with stairs down to large and beautiful open-plan fitted kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave, large fridge-freezer plus drinks fridge, oil-fired Aga plus electric oven/induction hob) with granite worktops, dining table comfortably seating 12 and doors to large, enclosed deck (t... Having recently returned from a week in The Wood during the half term break we would have no hesitation in recommending this house to any large groups.

On arrival, we were all blown away by the beauty of the location and corresponding sea views. We were met by the Property Manager (Deborah) who took the time to show us around the house and everything was in great condition.

Being a group of 19 (10 adults and 9 children - ranging from 3 to 9 years old) we are always nervous about how a holiday home would cater for our needs and accommodate so many of us under one roof, but we were all very satisfied by the living conditions.

The sleeping quarters were clean and spacious and tastefully decorated, with a decent amount of bathroom facilities to meet our needs. There were travel cots and extra beds available making it easy to juggle the room configurations when the inevitable happened on the first night with the older children ending up in one room...

We had a family reunion with 14 members in this beautiful three-level home that sleeps 17 and overlooks the Salcombe estuary--outside decks, living areas, bedrooms all have incredible views--quick walk down to a special beach. All of the house has been renovated and the interiors are first rate, including the modern bathrooms. The 4-rooms on the first floor have spectacular views and include an open, fully modernized kitchen, with island counters and counter chairs, a dining room that sat all of us comfortably, a sitting room and then a living room all with hardward floors and a great fireplace. The outside deck has a large dining table with deck and lounge chairs. The home is beautifully appointed and maintained. The property surrounding the house has different terrace levels, gardens and great landscape. The house has its own parking area and the property also includes a cottage with its own bedroom, living area and kitchenette. All of the towels, kitchen utinsils, dishes...

About the neighbourhood
Salcombe: one of the most beautifully sited small towns in Britain, at the mouth of the Kingsbridge estuary, a yacht haven with creeks, sandy bays. Waterside pubs, nice shops. Boats to hire, fishing, superb Nat. Trust cliff walks/gardens; museum, tennis, outdoor swimming pool (in summer); pedestrian ferry to East Portlemouth (lovely beaches, The Venus Café and Takeaway). Thurlestone and Bigbury (golf), 6 and 8 miles.
