Holiday Rental House
The house sleeps four people. Ann Cleeves stayed here whilst doing research before writing the books the acclaimed drama series 'Shetland' are based on. 16 Mounthooly Street is in the historic lanes area of the capital (Lerwick), a quiet location with no passing traffic noise. Free parking is at the rear of the house in Rechabite Place car park. The Tourist Centre is at the bottom of the street where you can book boat trips or coach trips to all areas. Lerwick’s two supermarkets are not far from the house. It is around 100 yards from the town centre, where you can browse through the shops, pass the time looking at the vessels in our beautiful harbour or take time out to relax in the restaurants and bars. Live traditional music can be heard in the Lounge Bar near the bottom of Mounthooly...The house sleeps four people. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

A Viking Time was had.
We rented The accommodation for Up Helly Aa week in January 2024. The accommodation is in good order, everything you need is there, the house is located in one of the old lanes in Lerwick which is central for everything in Lerwick. We enjoyed our stay, Margaret was there to greet us and explained the workings of the house. As I’m from Lerwick I know my way about, the only slight draw back was parking could be awkward as there are an awful lot of cars in Lerwick.

Brilliant place to stay
We had a first class stay in Lerwick at Mounthooly. The location made it so easy to access everything that Shetland has to offer the holiday maker. The welcome from Margaret was very helpful and the shortbread delicious. Hope to stay again.

A stay in Lerwick
We had a lovely week based in Lerwick in this cosy, comfortable and well equipped property. It was a good base to explore the island and a short distance from the centre of town but quiet. The arrival arrangements worked well and Margaret was very helpful in answering any queries. The home made shortbread on arrival was very welcome!

great base for touring the islands
The cottage was right in Lerwick very close to the harbour. The accommodation was great -clean and welcoming. There was plenty of information about the area. The small drawback was the steep road up to the cottage. Margaret had a cancelation on the day we were leaving and very kindly allowed us to stay until the ferry was due.

Superb accommodation in a lovely part of town
We thoroughly enjoyed using this lovely house for our week long stay in the Shetlands. It was the perfect location for walks, visiting the sea and very quiet at night. The owner really thought of everything, from the clear signing on how things worked, to all mod cons. The living area was large and spacey and the kitchen superbly equipped. Highly recommended.

Thank you, Margaret, for providing such a comfortable home for our week`s stay in Lerwick. We lacked nothing.
Thank you, Margaret, for providing such a comfortable home for our week`s stay in Lerwick. We lacked nothing. The weather was perfect, and we even had breakfasts outside. The situation of the house in the old part of the town was perfect with easy access to shops and the harbour. We loved Shetland. There is so much to see and do. We only scratched the surface. The scenery was spectacular, the geology fascinating, the birds and wild flowers amazing. Thank you so much.

The perfect place to stay
The house was very comfortable, clean and well equipped. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. At the end of our holiday it was doubtful wether we could fly home due to the weather and Margaret and Tommy were kind enough to offer us extra nights at the cottage which was very thoughtful of them. Couldn’t have asked for anything better. The cottage was situated in the ideal location for getting around mainland Shetland, with a good bus service running past the top of the road. We will definitely be staying here again and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in Lerwick.

Very special place to stay
We loved the attractive, cozy house. Its location could not have been better for waterfront, restaurants, shops, museums, and library. The street is quaint and quiet. Everything was clean and convenient. The owners are delightful. We attended the Shetland Folk Festival and had a fabulous two weeks here!

EXCELLENT STAY WITH VERY ACCOMMODATING OWNER.
I booked this accommodation for two colleagues visiting Lerwick on business and communication prior and during the stay were excellent as were the meet and greet service arrangements. The house is welcoming, clean and very comfortable and my colleagues would recommend to anyone visiting Lerwick. Their special thanks to Margaret who made their stay very smooth and most enjoyable.
