The house sleeps four people. Ann Cleeves stayed here whilst doing research before writing the books the acclaimed drama series 'Shetland' are based on. 16 Mounthooly Street is in the historic lanes area of the capital (Lerwick), a quiet location with no passing traffic noise. Free parking is at the rear of the house in Rechabite Place car park. The Tourist Centre is at the bottom of the street where you can book boat trips or coach trips to all areas. Lerwick’s two supermarkets are not far from the house. It is around 100 yards from the town centre, where you can browse through the shops, pass the time looking at the vessels in our beautiful harbour or take time out to relax in the restaurants and bars. Live traditional music can be heard in the Lounge Bar near the bottom of Mounthooly...The house sleeps four people. A Couple of our Guests' comments: 'Tasteful decor, excellent facilities, lovely clean home in an ideal location, shortbread gorgeous - we are addicted now! Toys, games and books, CDs etc. thoughtfully provided. We've had an unforgettable holiday and seen all the family. Don't want to go home! Will recommend house to others and fervently hope to return. Comfortable. Ideal situation
The house was clean, comfortable and pleasantly warm (don’t know how as the radiators were never hot when I touched them!). The TV, video, DVD / CD player provided entertainment if you wanted to stay in. Beds were comfortable and bathroom well equipped. The kitchen was also well equipped and although compact was perfectly adequate for a holiday.We even entertained guests with no problem. The house is on a narrow lane which leads down to the centre of Lerwick via the Lounge Bar (with its local musicians) nevertheless it was very quiet and peaceful. In the other direction, the Clickimin and Islesburgh centres are within easy walking distance.

Thanks Micheal & Liz for your kind review. Were glad you found the house comfortable and warm. Our heating is from the waste to energy plant in Lerwick which provides very efficient district heating for the town. Thanks for choosing our accommodation and hope to see you in the future. About the neighbourhood
Lerwick is Shetland's only town, with a population of about 7,500 - although about half of the islands' 22,000 people live within 10 miles of it. The extensive leisure and entertainment facilities provide warm hospitality to visitors. The old waterfront is thronged with pleasure boats, visiting yachts, historic craft and working fishing boats.
Getting around
If you want to see the best of Shetland, you’ll need a car. There are high quality roads in Shetland and regular inter-island ferries to the isles of Bressay, Whalsay, Yell, Unst and Fetlar. If you need to hire a car, the local firms are: Bolts Car Hire and Star Rent-a-Car Information on Taxi operators and timetables for ferries, buses and inter-island flights are available on the ZETTRANS website. There are many boat tour operators as you get a spectacular view of the scenery and wildlife from the water.
