Ideal for a self catering holiday, business trip or short break in Shetland. Built in 2009 the property was designed, and furnished, to the highest standards for the primary purpose of providing a luxurious holiday home in the Shetland Islands that guests would enjoy and recommend.
Brekka Lodge is perfectly located for seeing what Shetland has to offer in terms of bird life, wildlife, sea mammals, archaeology, hill-walking, spectacular sea cliffs, scenic views, wild flowers, arts and crafts or for simply exploring Shetland.

A lovely place to stay
My husband and I had a wonderful 2 weeks holiday at Brekka Lodge. The house has a beautiful view over Bressay Sound. It is modern, spacious, nicely decorated and furnished, warm and spotlessly clean. Sheila and George were friendly and helpful hosts. I can recommend Brekka Lodge without reservation; you won't find better.

A comfortable, modern self catering lodge with helpful hosts
Brekka Lodge is a well appointed self catering house. Four adults were very comfortable there. It is conveniently situated halfway between Lerwick and Sumburgh head. You must visit both of these: Sumburgh for the views and birdlife, and dolphins or Orcas if you are lucky, Lerwick to see the town and museum which is excellent.
Our thanks to our hosts who live close by. We were able to leave our bags there until we could move in, while we went off exploring. The starter pack of food was very useful. There is a local shop nearby, but the main shop is best done at the Tesco on the way to Lerwick. Make sure you have a Tesco loyalty card to gain the discounts!

Perfect holiday home.
Breaks Lodge is a really clean, comfortable and well equipped holiday home. Would recommend it to anyone looking to stay on Shetland. We had a good week weather wise, not much rain or wind and quite a bit of sunshine. It is located conveniently close to Lerwick but is in very quiet location. We hope to come back someday, but the downside is getting there, we took the ferry from Aberdeen, but if we come again we shall fly.

Amazing
Had a wonderful Christmas at Brekka Lodge. This was our first visit to Shetland and hopefully won’t be our last. Brekka Lodge was wonderful, set in a stunning position overlooking the sea and there’s a lovely stone beach a short walk away to go and watch the birds and seals. The lodge was very well equipped, spacious and cosy and we were warmly welcomed by the owner Sheila, who had even put up Christmas decorations and some gifts for us on our arrival. It’s in a perfect location to explore the islands and we thoroughly enjoyed travelling around and enjoying all that they have to offer, everywhere you goes is just another ‘wow’ moment. Can’t wait to return…

Such a perfect place to stay
This was our second visit to Shetland but it certainly won't be our last. We adore Brekka Lodge and would be hard pressed to contemplate staying anywhere else. The house is extremely well appointed with all mod cons with views to die for overlooking Bressay. There is even a "secret" bay at the end of the garden where we watched otters, seals and birds galore. Sheila and George are perfect hosts and this year we even had the company of Lambie the tame caddy lamb who was a temporary visitor before moving on to her permenant home on the family farm. We can't wait to go back.

Top location and facilities
Breaks Lodge is ideally situated, about 20 minutes drive south of Lerwick, overlooking the exquisite Fladdabister Bay, only 5 minutes walk away. The lodge itself is warm, comfortable and really well equipped, with all the kitchenware you might need. It also has stunning views across the water to the islands of Bressay and Noss. As electric car drivers we were pleased to find a 7Kw charger at MacKenzie’s Farm Shop, where we could leave the car charging overnight. All this coupled with the warm reception and sunny weather meant we had a wonderful stay.

Lovely peaceful well equipped lodge
Brekka Lodge lived up to all our expectations and more. The standard of furnishing and equipment were second to none. Bedrooms were particularly spacious which I enjoyed as at the moment we are in tiny rented accommodation awaiting our new home! The lounge has lovely views and I spent a long time sitting watching the lambs and rabbits frolicking in the field! The lodge is very well placed for visiting all parts of the island. We even got up early one day to visit Unst which was really worth the effort. For those coming on the overnight ferry and needing to pass the day, I can recommend Fjara cafe near Tescos for breakfast. Excellent views. Also No 88 for a great meal. Loved Shetland and enjoyed having such a comfortable base to enjoy it from. Thanks Sheila for all the thoughtful touches in the Lodge.

Fantastic accommodation, highly recommend
We had a wonderful stay at Brekka Lodge. Excellent communication prior to our trip and available for anything we needed during our stay. A great location for a family holiday. The lodge was immaculate, spacious and incredibly well equipped. We'd love to visit again and would highly recommend.

Wonderful relaxing stay with friends
We had friends visiting from South and had a wonderful relaxing break at Brekka! Sheila was so helpful with the booking as we were quite late notice.
The lodge was great and had everything we needed, it was very spacious and had a lovely shower! Our favourite parts were the lovely bay just a couple of minutes walk away which was perfect for a morning swim and the views from the lodge are beautiful! Great location for exploring loads of Shetland’s wonderful scenery. Would definitely stay at Brekka again! Thank you

Ideal base to explore the Shetland Islands
This was our second stay at Brekka Lodge and it proved to be equally as good as our first experience. We knew that we would be staying at a first class and well appointed cottage. The property is in an excellent location to explore all the islands in the Shetland group. It's located in a quiet and peaceful spot with fantastic views of the sea and Bressay Island in the distance. A bonus for bird lovers like us was hearing the curlews calling from the cottage quite regularly which is always an uplifting experience. The owners of the property George and Sheila, both born and bred on the island, live next door to the cottage but they don't bother you but you know that they are there if needed. We think that a cottage where the owners live on site is always the best option. Somehow our week there passed far to quickly which is why we will definitely make a return visit to Brekka Lodge at some stage in the future.

Brekka Lodge is located just 10 minutes from Lerwick, the capital of Shetland. Based between the hamlets of Fladdabister and Ocraquoy, Brekka Lodge has stunning unspoilt sea views and all the peace and quiet you require. An ideal central base for exploring the whole of Shetland.The peaceful location of the property ensures you the freedom and space to ensure an wonderful holiday. Ideal for couples, singles, families, young or old. For those with young children we provide a highchair, travel cot, stairgate and a toy box free of charge. Brekka Lodge is sited away from the road to ensure safety and there is a large lawn for picnicing, playing football, kite flying or sun batheing should the weather permit. Brekka Lodge visitors boast about the nature on the doorstep, with the beaches, coastline and loch being firm favourites. The nearest beach is only a 2 minute walk from the Lodge and the next one is only 4 minutes away! Watch gannets diving for fish from the lounge window! You may even be lucky enough to spot the local shy otter who has been seen two feet from the property and often on the shoreline below the house. Should the weather be poor there are games, free wifi, dvds and books provided for your enjoyment. However, Shetland also has much to offer with a network of leisure centres, heritage centres and the recently opened award winning museum in Lerwick, to name a few things to do on a wet day. Check out the comprehensive information pack and Shetland books in the accommodation for other suggestions. Activities on the doorstep include bird watching, loch and sea fishing and peaceful coastal and hill walks. Brekka Lodge is on the Fladdabister circular walk route. Within 10 minutes on foot you will find amazing: plants and flowers; wildlife; birds; sea mammals; geological delights; shingle beaches; rock pools; walks;lime kilns; ruins; and much, much more....... paradise!

How to get there
Brekka Lodge is centrally located and is an ideal base for exploring Shetland.
From Lerwick By Car
Brekka lodge is approximately 10 miles south of Lerwick. Take the A970 south for approximately 9 miles, pass by the villages of Gulberwick and Quarff. After exiting Quarff you will travel past the Fladdabister loch on your left, at the end of the straight taking the junction on the left marked Fladdabister. Travel along this single track road, past the windmill on your left, down the hill, through the hamlet of old crofters cottages, cross a small bridge and Brekka Lodge is the first wooden property on your left before reaching the passing place. Ample parking is available to the left of the drive at Brekka Lodge. The journey from Lerwick to Brekka Lodge will be approximately 15 minutes.
From Sumburgh Airport By Car
Take the A970 north, for approximately 16 miles. Travel through Cunningsburgh, passing the community hall and football pitch on the left, take the next junction on your right marked Fladdabister/Aithsetter, turn immediately left to Fladdabister/Ocraquoy. Travel along this road, pass two wooden houses on your right, bear right, take a sharp left, down a small hill, pass a junction to Ocraquoy on your right, pass the houses on your left, Brekka Lodge is the wooden property that stands on its own near the sea on your right. The journey from Sumburgh Airport to Brekka Lodge will be approximately 30 mins.
Public Transport
There is a local bus service which connects Lerwick with the Sumburgh Airport and vice versa (Bus Number 6). There are two bus stops serving Brekka Lodge, one 0.25 miles north and one 0.45 miles south. If arriving by bus please let us know your approximate time of arrival and we can collect you from the bus stop. Each bus stop is located where the main road A970 inter connects with the loop road for Fladdabister. For bus times click here.
