Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Brekka Lodge
This was our second stay at Brekka Lodge & it was just as good, if not better than the first. The Lodge is immaculate, beautifully presented & comfortable, with wonderful views of the countryside & coast. The owners are incredibly welcoming, friendly & helpful without being intrusive. You really won't want for anything, when we come to Shetland we simply wouldn't want to stay anywhere else, it feels like coming home!

Immaculate base to explore Shetland with incredible views!
The lodge is beautifully presented and has excellent facilities. The lodge has everything you need for a cosy home from home with excellent sea views. It was amazing to watch the waves crash from the warmth of the house! It is a modern, spacious base which was perfect for quiet mornings, cosy evenings and exploring the Islands of Sheltland. The welcome pack of food was so helpful to get us started and beds extremely comfy! Amenities of Lerwick very close and lodge is well positioned for travelling far and wide within the Isles. We'll be back. Sheila was helpful, approachable and flexible before and throughout our stay, thank you for taking such good care of us.

Wonderful and relaxing base in Shetland
Thank you so much Brekka Lodge - a superb place to stay. Sheila was really helpful before we arrived (so many worries about trains and lockdowns, but we made it!) - this is a lovely, relaxing and well equipped place to stay. Sheila brought us extra books to help us make the most of our visit. The local beach is absolutely wonderful - a place to clear your head, watch the seals, and just relax. Our first visit to Shetland (we're looking at your availability for next year already Sheila!) A short drive to Lerwick, and so many amazing places nearby. We actually felt that we'd had a better experience because of the Covid19 lockdown as everywhere was so quiet. We missed some things, but also had some amazing scenery all to ourselves. Next time we'll probably fly, but the ferry was really good, and so many stunning places to visit when we got there. Eshaness, Sumburgh, Burra, St Ninians, and of course, Frankie's Fish & Chips. Thank you to our hosts, the lodge was lovely, very warm, and I loved 'our' beach and seals. We'll be back.

Brekka Lodge
Lovely week in Shetland with our daughter and 2 grandchildren staying in Brekka Lodge spending time with family who live in Lerwick. Lovely location - views from each window of the sea and hills. Very central for exploring the island by car. The Lodge is the most clean and comfortable accommodation we have ever stayed in for a holiday. A lot of thought has gone in to making it so comfortable and homely. Everything in the Lodge is top quality - beds, bedding, bathroom, towels, kitchen and contents. It was just perfect - highly recommend and will definitely return! Thanks Sheila.

Excellent in every way
Every review on here about Brekka Lodge has been excellent and deservedly so. We stayed in this wonderfully located holiday cottage for a week in late June and early July this year. The cottage is well placed for touring Shetland and we were able to visit all the places we intended visiting during our week including Unst the outermost island. I'm a passionate birder and to wake up each morning to the beautiful, haunting and utterly heart-warming bubbling song of the curlew was very uplifting. It is a rare song in the British Isles nowadays. Of course as previous reviewers have stated there were the 'drumming' snipe too and the oystercatcher which seemed to be a regular garden visitor! The small beach just a short walk below the house is lovely and if you were an artist or a poet you could easily spend your days lyrically writing or painting at this location and on your walk down to the beach listen out for the song of the Shetland wren (a sub-species of our mainland bird). From the lounge of this extremely well equipped cottage we had a wide panoramic view of the bay over to the island of Bressay and it's lighthouse. We watched plunge diving gannets, auks, skuas, dipping terns, red-throated divers and if you were lucky enough you might even spot a harbour porpoise, Risso's dolphin, minke whale or perhaps even an orca or killer whale! Have your bins or telescope at the ready! Overall this is a great cottage in a fantastic location and we certainly intend to revisit at sometime in the future.

Classy and just generally superb really...
We were lucky to be able to book a week at Brekka Lodge in midsummer 2019 as they had had a cancellation. Brekka Lodge has been a self-catering property for about 10 years, but Sheila and George have obviously been assiduous in their maintenance and upgrading over that time, as everything literally felt and looked brand new. We've stayed in many high end self catering places in Scotland over the last 15 years and this was up there with the very best. All the furniture and fittings were high quality and tasteful and the whole place was spotless and immaculate. The bed was unbelievably comfortable and the bathroom had a superb power shower. The kitchen had all the equipment you could possibly need even for foodies and the living room had comfy seats and a stunning view to Bressay. We didn't watch much TV but there was a good sized Sony set and I also appreciated there being a decent quality micro stereo that I was able to use to Bluetooth music from my phone and stream from the internet. Location was great as well with just a few minutes walk to the pretty much private beach. Though not a classic sandy beach, I never saw anyone else there and there was plenty of wildlife action from fulmars, terns, sandpipers and others and skylarks and wrens on the way up and down. In terms of the wider location Brekka Lodge is also well situated just 10 minutes or so from Lerwick and it's particularly handy that you can get to Tesco for the essentials without going into the town centre. We had a very nice welcome from Sheila and George and appreciated the handy welcome pack, including the naughty but nice traybakes! Also lots of good tips from Sheila on places to go and things to do. We were advised not to try to do too much, and this proved wise counsel. In the end, we never got off the mainland, but we did explore it in a bit of depth using the Charles Tait guidebook, which we had with us, though there was also a copy in Brekka Lodge for the use of guests. (There were also OS maps for the whole of Shetland, which I appreciated greatly as I do love to have them when on holiday but they are expensive to buy nowadays and chances are you won't use them again.) Overall, Shetland is bigger than you think and although the roads are excellent, it still takes a bit of time to get anywhere. We decided not to go to Yell or Unst and I think that was the right choice. We did, however, on Sheila's advice, go on the Seabirds and Seals cruise to Noss, which was absolutely fantastic, up close and personal with thousands of gannets, fulmars, terns, guillemots, shags and razorbills. At £50 it's a bit pricy but comparable to the other operators and as the boat only takes a maximum of 12 people you are getting a personalised experience. As well as the wildlife, there's a look at a WW2 wreck using a remote control camera. Would certainly recommend the cruise. We also visited the Shetland museum a couple of times and it too is an absolute must. The quality is much higher than you would expect in a small council, presumably because they have had enough money to it properly. Scalloway museum is also well worth a visit. Overall, despite the weather not being the best, a great week in Shetland. We were really impressed with Brekka Lodge, its owners and everything it had to offer and would certainly recommend it unreservedly. Just make sure you book well ahead as word about how good it is seems to be already out! Hope to be able to go back sometime. Thanks!

Tranquil, restful and incredibly comfortable
The location of Brekka lodge is wonderful, just a short walk down to the shore, surrounded by farmland. It wasn't warm enough to sit outside while we were there but whenever outside there was almost always a snipe drumming and larks singing. The accommodation is really comfortable and the kitchen means if you enjoy cooking you can still do so easily as there is plenty of good quality equipment to work with. Good quality beds and seating meant relaxation was easy. Absolutely first rate.

Home from home accommodation
Visited Shetland for Up Helly Aa and couldn’t have found a better place to stay. The owner Sheila is very welcoming and the welcome pack was much appreciated. The accommodation is top notch and we were very warm which was important to us because of the time of year we visited. It is centrally located and we were able to see a lot of the Island. We have stayed in a lot of self catering accommodation around the globe and Brekka Lodge is one of the best equipped by far. We would certainly recommend it to our friends and family.

Beautiful Brekka!
Spotless and extremely comfortable accommodation in a fabulous location with amazing views. Near to Lerwick for the ferry and the south mainland for the airport. This is the second time that we’ve had the privilege of staying in Brekka Lodge and it won’t be our last. Don’t hesitate to book, you will not be disappointed! I can’t recommend highly enough!
