We had a wonderful stay! The weather was great, almost sunny and blue skies. We did a couple of trips to explore Scotland: In Fort William we took the Jacobite Steam Train; we saw Eilean Donan Castle; and at Loch Ness we found Nessie only in the souvenir shop! The cities of Edinburgh and St Andrews were great to visit...

Lovely comfortable accommodation. It has everything that we needed for a perfect relaxing week in Scotland. The views across the Loch must be seen. Location ideal for walking and cycling. Excellent pub just 10 minutes walk.

About the neighbourhood
The area is dominated by Loch Leven, a beautiful loch best known not only for its wildlife but also for its famous visitor, Mary Queen of Scots who was imprisoned on Castle Island in 1567. Take the boat across from Kinross on a sunny day and have a picnic or eat at the Boathouse Bistro on the loch shores. The new cycle path round the loch weaves through pretty woodland and farmland with RSPB Vane Farm and farm shops to refuel. Great, easy cycle ride! Kinross is a small market town with everything you are likely to need during your stay.

Easter Balgedie is the tiny hamlet where the Gate Lodge nestles beneath the Lomond Hills and is one of a series of small settlements along the east side of the Loch Leven, making up the parish of Portmoak. Getting around
Edinburgh Airport is only 40 mins drive away and Glasgow is about 1 and 1/2 hours away.

Having a car is a must as the property is in the countryside adn is not well served by public transport. It is however very near Kinross and the M90 so access to many of parts of Scotland is very easy.

The nearest train station is Lochgelly (8miles) and Kirkcaldy station is only about 20 mins away. There is also a park and ride service from Kinross.

How to get there
Airport: Edinburgh: 43.0 km
Railway: Lochgelly: 10.0 km
From the South, leave the M90 at junction 6, take the exit through Kinross and travel about 4 miles east on the A911, Kinross to Glenrothes road.

From the North, leave the M90 at junction 7, take the exit through Milnathort, travel about 4 miles southeast on the A911, Milnathort to Glenrothes road.

Driving along the A911, when you've passed Loch Leven's Larder (on your right) and the Balgedie Toll Tavern (on your left), you're getting close! The Gate Lodge is the first cottage on the left after passing the Easter Balgedie sign. You'll hopefully spot the purple chimney pot! Drive in through the stone and black iron gates and park alongside the cottage in the drive.
