Dyer's Cottage Yorkshire is a 17th century traditional stone cottage, full of character features, which was sympathetically renovated in 2015 to provide singles, couples, 3 friends or small families with a warm, inviting and extremely comfortable stay near Halifax in Calderdale. Relax in the private sun soaked garden after a day out exploring. Key Features • Beautifully restored • Extremely well appointed • Sunny private enclosed garden • Car not required • Close to all amenities • Bath and shower • Good WiFi • Superking or 2 twin beds in bedroom • Sofabed • Tall people welcome This cottage is extremely unusual in that it has a very long documented history of occupants since 1777 when the owners gt gt gt grandfather was born here and succeeding generations of his family have continued to live there whilst working in the nearby dyeworks (long gone except for the 77m chimney, now the tallest folly in the world called Wainhouse Tower). It oozes character with ceiling beams, an inglenook fireplace with a gas fired stove for instant heat and no mess, restored pine doors and exposed stonework. The mullioned window in the kitchen dates from 1650 when it was part of a farmhouse. Unusually for a cottage, it has spacious rooms and high ceilings but please be aware that the stairs are steep. The sunny garden is a beautiful feature with views across the valley. The fully equipped kitchen features an electric oven and ceramic hob, a small dishwasher, a fridge with small freezer, a microwave and a Dolce Gusto coffee maker. A washer/dryer is hidden in a modern cupboard in the contemporary upstairs bathroom with a white suite and grey porcelain tiles. The long shower bath widens at one end and has an Aqualisa digital rain shower as well as a hand shower attachment. The gas central heating boiler is disguised inside another cupboard. We provide an illuminated mirror, shaver socket, and complimentary bath and shower products. Next to the bathroom is a landing area with a desk in case you have to work from home and Wifi is available throughout the cottage. The sunny bedroom has a lovely view, a Victorian feature fireplace, in built storage and a magnificent superking ( 2m long, 1.8m wide) Hypnos bed. This can be configured as 2 long single beds if required by prior arrangement. There is also space for a child to sleep in a Z bed or travel cot which can also be provided along with a bumbo, bath seat, changing mat and toys. You will love the living room with its woodblock flooring, antique dining table, and comfortable seating including a chair with local place names. The leather sofa extends into a proper sprung bed for an occasional/additional guest. The paintings and wall decorations all have a local theme and the SMART tv with freeview channels, a DVD player and a little library of books, and games will keep you entertained. We provide high quality bed linen and towels. Calderdale is now famous as a filming destination and our heritage locality has featured in 'Last Tango in Halifax', 'Happy Valley'and the new drama 'Gentleman Jack' which is being screened on BBC1 in 2019. Walk and cycle the many miles of footpaths/cycleways locally such as the Calder Valley Greenway. Stay here to visit family and friends, explore nature and walk the canal towpaths. The Calder and Hebble Navigation and the Rochdale Canal can be easily accessed from the cottage. Explore the South Pennines and Yorkshire Dales NP, visit Haworth and Bronte Country or take a trip to historic York. Industrial archeology abounds here and converted mills now host shops, bars, restaurants, exhibitions, music venues and art galleries. Don't forget to visit the fabulous Piece Hall in Halifax where the hand loom weavers used to sell their pieces of cloth. This magnificent Grade11 listed building has undergone a massive renovation and now offers interesting shopping, art galleries, a museum, bars, restaurants and cultural events to enjoy. Located in the Pye Nest area of Halifax, under the shadow of the famous Wainhouse Tower, the cottage is perfectly located. A bus passes the gate and both Sowerby Bridge and Halifax stations are easily accessible. Shopping, pubs and restaurants are within a short walk and on street parking is available. An award winning CAMRA pub offers lovely home cooked Yorkshire fare and a very friendly welcome to our guests. Dyer’s Cottage near Halifax Yorkshire is a self catering holiday cottage which is listed on several sites all of which charge you and us a fee. We support book direct and have an alternative pricing structure too. One well behaved quiet dog may be permitted but not in the bedroom. Please contact the owner BEFORE making a booking to discuss. We are very sensitive to our neighbours needs, including noise and it must NEVER be left alone in the cottage. It is expected that on departure you will remove all evidence of its visit. No smoking within the property but feel free to light up outside!More

Interaction with guests
Some guests request to meet me on arrival but most prefer to arrive at a flexible time so we have a key box. The code is released shortly before arrival as it is changed regularly. I do like to communicate with my guests before arrival so that they are sure how to reach the cottage, know where the best pubs and restaurants are and how to generally feel at home. I will request your email address to send this information sheet to shortly before arrival. I also have a local housekeeper who is around in case of any difficulty.

About the neighbourhood
The area on this part of the West Yorkshire/Lancashire border has been dramatically portrayed recently in TV series such as Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Valley. It is a mixture of industrial architecture, usually in urban areas, quiet villages, often with traditional pubs offering local beer, and extensive valley and moorland scenery. Please look at the photos as you will be amazed at how beautiful the area is and how easy it is to enjoy a holiday. History abounds, whether it be of the buildings connected with the Industrial Revolution or old churches, abbeys and stately homes to visit. The immediate area around Dyer's Cottage was rural until the latter part of the 19th century with most people working as farmers or in the local dyeworks. The outward expansion of Halifax led to further...
Getting around
Public transport is excellent with an hourly bus during the day actually passing the gate but many more buses pass within 250m of the cottage so you can get directly to Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Bridge, Rochdale, Burnley and beyond if you change buses at these places. The train stations at Sowerby Bridge 1 mile and Halifax 2 miles allow easy travel to Leeds, Bradford, Manchester, York, Blackpool, Scarborough and more. Walking and cycling are also ways of exploring the area.
