Fantastic 5* Lodge & Bothy
This is a fantastic 5* Lodge and the host Clare & Alick are fantastic. The lodge is beautifully decorated, heaps of space and the setting is sensational. Getting to be close up to the herd of deer was just magical and Otto the Stag is absolutely magnificent! I highly recommend this amazing lodge. Thank you both for just being brilliant hosts.

Excellent in every way
Second stay at Muir estate. Beautiful accommodation, king size, very comfy. beds. Underfloor heating making the house very cosy. Nice wee walks through the estate grounds. Claire and Alick the owners couldn’t be more helpful. Claire cooked dinner for us one night and the food was excellent. Definitely recommend the beetroot cured salmon and Claire’s venison is the best ever.

Practically Perfect in Every Way
Practically perfect in EVERY way! Muir Estate is a true escape from the realities and stresses of life - a haven of wildlife, woodland and peace. The house has been designed and decorated to the highest specification. Everything has been thought of and there's so many amenities to make the perfect holiday. We went as a family of 10 with 2 children (1 toddler) and it was perfect for all ages. The beds are super comfy and luxurious, and opening up the windows to watch Otto and the deer roaming the field is blissful! Each bedroom has it's own bathroom which when you've got a big family is a real bonus. It's superbly clean and there's clearly been no expense spared for anything in the property. BUT what makes this place extra incredible, is the owners Claire and Alick. They genuinely cannot do enough to make your stay the best it can be, and are there to help you enjoy the most of your break. We arrived to a home cooked cullen skink brought by Claire (she'd made it at the sister property Woodcroft) and they even took us out on the quad bike and trailer to see the deer close up during feeding time - what an experience! I thoroughly recommended the Chef and Shepherd dinner experience - let Claire and Alick cook for you one night because the food is delicious, plentiful and local (and you'll be absolutely stuffed!) This place is their pride and joy, and their welcoming and fun nature makes the house become a home. We loved relaxing in the hot tub late in to the night and chilling out in the garden during the day. There's a pizza oven (great fun!) for you to make your own pizzas and a BBQ for a relaxing meal. We played games on the lawn and went for long walks down to the private loch. Look out for the Shetland ponies down the path! It's a genuine pleasure to stay at Muir Estate - don't look any further for a relaxing, luxuorious and fun holiday away from it all. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!!

Superb property - family friendly
We had a fantastic family break here. The owners are very welcoming and easy to reach should you have any questions. The property was a great place for the toddlers to run about exploring knowing there was no passing traffic, with stair gates, high chairs, travel cots and plastic plates etc available. We took advantage of the heat and eat dishes for the day of arrival and the chefs dining experience for a kid free meal during our stay which was wonderful, and great not having to cook or do dishes! Seeing the deer each morning was an added bonus. Would highly recommend.

Group Birthday Getaway
Booked for our friends birthday weekend away and absolutely loved staying at Muir Estate. The house itself is beautifully built with high finishings and excellent decor. The views are stunning and the whole house has a calm and zen surrounding. We had fun in the hot tub and used the pizza ovens for our own personal pizzas. The owners are extremely accommodating and gave some of us a tour and part of the group visited the deer and got to feed them. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a special escape. Ticks all the boxes and made some special memories for us all. Thank you.

Group weekend Away
Wonderful place run by a terrific couple. Would recommend for get togethers with friends or family or all ages. House is finished to a very high standard with modern amenities, underfloor heating, luxury toiletries and the fun of stove fires to keep cozy in the colder months. Location is rural but not far from activities like the safari park, bracklinn falls and there are pubs and restaurants in thornhill, kippen and Callander all just a short drive away. On the estate they have deer which we were very kindly taken to go see at feeding time one morning which was an unexpected added bonus.

Wonderful stay at the Muir Estate
We stayed at Claire and Alick’s amazing estate in August 2021 and was absolutely taken aback by the hospitality and friendliness of these two people. From start to finish both of them couldn’t do enough for us and the place itself will be talked about in our family for many years to come! It’s just so relaxing and in a very tranquil location. Huge garden complete with an outdoor pizza oven and hot tub to unwind from the many things to do and sights to see around the area. Spacious living room, dining room and luxurious bathrooms make the stay extra special and the best part is retiring to a very comfortable bed, definitely the comfiest beds I’ve ever known away from home. I would definitely recommend this lodge and bothy to anyone. Absolute bliss 👍

How to get there
We are nestled in a private corner of the Scottish country side so we can be a little difficult to find but it’s worth effort. Use our travel tips below or please give us a call and we will be happy to help From either Edinburgh or Glasgow the motorways merge onto the M9 heading for Stirling/Perth. At junction 10, take the A84 exit to A85/Stirling/Callander/Crianlarich. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A84 At the next roundabout take the 2nd exit and stay on A84. Follow the signs for The Smiddy Farm shop and pass Blair Drummond Safari Park and you will see the green road sign, signposted Aberfoyle (A873), turn off to the left after the sign The Smiddy: Shop/Butchery/Café. Soon after take a left onto the A873 and follow this road which will take you into the little village of Thornhill, drive through the village and turn sharp right towards Aberfoyle, Callander, and Port of Menteith. Very quickly take the road on the right signposted Callander (A81) 6m. This will take you onto the B822. Follow this road for 1.6 miles, pass the white sign on the right for Lilias Graham Trust and a little further on you will see the sign and entrance for Muir Estate on the right. Drive through the gates, straight ahead and up the hill and you will see the Lodge and Bothy on your left. From Inverness, follow the A9 to Perth (south). From Perth take the A9 Stirling road and stay on that a good while. You can take the turn off towards Dunblane and Doune, which are both lovely to visit if you have time. The simplest way is to stay on the A9 until junction 10, take the A84 exit to A85/Stirling/Callander/Crianlarich. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A84. At the next roundabout take the 2nd exit and stay on A84. Follow the signs for The Smiddy Farm shop. From Fort William take the A85 heading to Lochearnhead. Then take the A84 to Callander. From Callander follow signs to Glasgow, which should make you turn right at the traffic lights, go over the bridge and take a left at the little painted roundabout. Pass the Secondary school and leisure centre on your right and continue straight over the roundabout. Careful, it’s so small you don’t notice it. Continue straight and you will see the sign to Thornhill on the bend, turn off to the left onto the B822. Follow this road, pass the little building on the left with a painted smiley face and a little further on you will see the signs for Muir Estate. Go through the gate, drive straight ahead and up the road and you will see the Lodge and Bothy on your left.
