This is a charming converted hay barn which has recently been up graded set amongst the rolling hills of the North Pennines in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The property benefits from far reaching views, which can be appreciated from the living accommodation and the properities private viewing deck. People who visit tell us that the most enjoyable aspects of their stay are the stunning views, peace and tranquillity so they can chill out and the local walks which are literally right on the doorstep. Please note that the stairs in the cottage may make this cottage unsuitable for people with mobility issues. Local amenities are near by which include the post office, co-op, village shop, doctors, cafes and pubs as well as the fortnightly cinema. Larger towns situated near are Alston and Stanhope which are a 15 minute drive away wher... Read more

What can I say that hasn't been said already. The booking process was straight forward. Bruce and Anita were very punctual in replying to my emails. A warm welcome awaited from Bruce, explaining how everything worked etc. The extras such as the freshly baked bread, flowers, chocolates, wine and dog biscuits were such thoughtful touches and very much appreciated. The...

Lost count of the number of times we've stayed here now. Can't get enough of the beautiful cottage, its a home-from-home for us now! Everything is just spot on and the wonderful little extra touches are an added treat. Flowers, chocolates, wine and the delicious freshly made bread, not many places give such luxury goodies! We love everything about Butterfly...

We had a lovely 4 day break here. Scenery fantastic, even spotted black grouse. The cottage was cosy, clean comfortable and the hosts extremely concerned everything was to our liking. We would highly recommend for those that want that quiet break or holiday away and enjoy the countryside. A beautiful place for walks. The nearby villages have cosy tea shops...

About the neighbourhood
The Area is classed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with many old building and farmsteads dating back to the 1700s. It is thought to be a walkers paradise with many ancient footpaths and byways that take you deep into the heart of the North Pennines. Cycling is safe and a popular means to enjoy the area and visit the many interesting beauty spots and local pubs. Weardale is locally famous for having a church and a pub in every village, so something for everyone! The area is well known in Methodist history as a place visited by Wesley, who famously preached at the bottom of the hill leading to the cottage, before the chapel was built. The tree under which he preached is said to still be standing. There is a classic railway running through Weardale and also a steam engine running a... more
