Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

A very comfortable stay
This is a really good barn conversion, great sized rooms, excellent bathrooms and absolutely dog friendly with a truly secure garden. We all enjoyed a week here, two couples and 3 dogs. Perfect spot to easily explore Weardale and Teesdale. Hunwick also benefits from an excellent village pub too.

Perfection
Pure perfection. 4 night stay close to family in the most beautiful cottage, attention to detail shone through, beyond expectations. Everything you could need, not one thing we could have said was not available to make your stay perfect. Took our westie Ted, so dog friendly, made friends with the cattle and sheep over the fence in the adjacent field. Lovely walks, a beautiful place to unwind and reconnect with nature. Took my disabled father, no issues. Trips to Durham, Whitley Bay, Bishop Auckland, setting and location superb. Only wish we had booked for a longer stay, will definitely rebook soon. Feel privileged to have been able to stay, welcome pack even included doggie treats :) thank you Ang, beautiful memories made.

Hidden gem perfect for access to the Durham Dales
Delightful cottage located in a quiet rural part of the North East with easy access to local villages and short walk away from Bishop Auckland. The cottage itself has everything you need for a break away from home; amenities, spacious with a large area outside garden area perfect for enjoying afternoon tea with a lovely view to wake upto everyday. Due to current restrictions Ang was unable to meet and greet us but was constantly in contact to ensure everything was as expected. The cottage is well maintained and decorated throughout and an extra special touch was the welcome pack upon arrival with a few essentials. Folders containing local attractions, walks aswell as details of local pubs, restaurants etc. were also bonus. Having just returned home, we are already looking to book our return trip and have recommended to friends & family........it certainly didn't disappoint!!!!

Brilliant stay. Cottage immaculate, cosy, well thought out and perfect for our dogs. The garden was safe for them to play in. Lots of fantastic places to eat within a stone's throw. Great dog walks nearby too. Will definitely return !

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay last week. We were a party of 4 adults and a couple of small dogs and this place was perfect for us to enjoy everything the North East has to offer. We went on fantastic walks locally and there were plenty of choice of eateries in the area. However, after a long day of site seeing we enjoyed heading back to the comforts of Bracken Cottage and cooking in the fully equity kitchen and relaxing in the cosy lounge area before retiring to the uber comfortable beds. Ang the owner is very welcoming and helpful about the cottage and the local area and there are lots of information packs in the cottage to help you plan your stay. As dog owners we found the out door thermostatically controlled dog shower and absolute blessing when we returned after our muddy February walks. We would definitely stay at this cottage again and would recommend to friends.

Magnificent
This is our 3rd Visit, what a Gem of a holiday accommodation it exceeds all the others we’ve stayed in Durham over the last 24 years visiting twice a year. It’s beautifully restored to the highest quality. It is serenity, a haven away from it all. It has everything you could require, including being dog friendly. Ang is a fabulous host and as usual nothing is too much trouble. A pleasure to see you again. Here’s to visit no four. Debbie Amanda Florrie our Westie

Beautiful, relaxing week in this lovely cottage
Our 5th stay in this beautiful cottage, 3rd-10th August, and as always everything was just perfect. The owner, Ang, is friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. This dog friendly cottage has everything you might need, including WiFi, sky tv, DVD player, and all the usual kitchen essentials. Open plan kitchen and living area which looks out onto the patio with views across the field. Two lovely bedrooms with one en-suite, and a spacious bathroom. The cottage is located in lovely quiet area but within easy driving distance to shops, village pub etc, and is a perfect base for visiting some of the many attractions and beautiful places that are nearby. The cottage is always immaculate on arrival with lots of folders full of helpful information and places to visit. Can highly recommend this cottage and rate it a lot more than the 5 stars given here.
