Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Total Relaxation
We have been lucky enough to stay at this beautiful location for four short breaks during 2008. Already booked another stay for 2009! Total peace and quiet. Wonderful views, walks from your door. The accommodation can only be described as first class. Incredible value for money. Duncan and Jan, the hosts, are wonderful people and very helpful. As always, looking forward to our next visit! John and Claire. East Yorkshire.

Several excellent detailed walks and drives with pictures, from Farm Base. Excellent in-room information. Definate place for chill, peace and quiet. Farm Pets inclued Dogs cats, goats, chucks and ducks. We've already booked our 2009 accomodation, just wish we could afford more visits. Can't wait, thanks and look forward to arriving once more.

Beautiful setting and ammenities
We used the self-catering option and rented a small cottage i.e. Cloth Fair. The cottage is part of a barn conversion with other units including B & B facilities. Although situated in a beautifully untouched area, which is slightly isolated, nearest village 1 mile and Pickering 5 miles, you are very well placed for trips out. Whitby is approx. 16 miles, York 32 miles and Castle Howard/Eden Camp about 15 miles plus many other attractions. The cottage was fitted out to a high standard, being very comfortable and cozy. You don't need to go far as there are pleasant walks at hand and you can just lazy about and look out onto the countryside (three sides were windowed). Jan and Duncan (owners) are at hand and ensure a big welcome and any assistance you might need. We should also mention the cottage had full disability features and is totally user- friendly for wheel chairs. Our main regret was that the weather was not hot enough to enable us to use the table and chairs on the patio immediately outside the cottage for meals and drinks.

A wonderful Yorkshire welcome
Our three night stay was everything we hoped for and more. Jan and Duncan are excellent hosts and full of friendly advice about the local area. The breakfasts are fantastic! We definitely recommend that you give it a try. You won't be disappointed

Wonderful location, providing peace and quiet!
Rawcliffe House Farm is in a wonderful location, providing peace and quiet and a totally open aspect of the surrounding acreage – great for a morning stroll to walk off some of the calories acquired at breakfast! The south facing courtyard is well sheltered from the breeze and will be a lovely sun trap in the summer months with plenty of seating and tables for guests to enjoy the outdoors at Rawcliffe House. The outside lighting at night is subtle but very adequate and not at all intrusive in the countryside. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and very well planned. There are many thoughtful extras one would not necessarily receive in B&B accommodation such as: bath robes, bathroom essentials including toothbrush, plenty of good sized towels, decent hairdryer, fresh milk for tea/coffee (as opposed to UHT), ‘Yorkshire Tea’ biscuits, chocolates and bottled water. Jan & Duncan go to great lengths to ensure your stay is memorable and are always available to help out if needed. A folder is provided that suggests a number of local walks and driving routes which are extremely helpful. Visitors can also borrow a large scale detailed OS map and get recommendations for great places to eat of an evening covering local pubs that serve meals as well restaurants in nearby locations. The exceptional breakfast cannot be faulted (spoilt for choice!) and uses local produce including eggs from their own free range hens along with a wide selection of home made jams/preserves (some made by a family member…). These breakfasts certainly set you up for the day and as a result we even skipped lunch a couple times preferring to find a local café and sample the homemade fayre with a pot of tea. We would certainly recommend Rawcliffe House Farm as it has such a variety of accommodation from B&B sleeping from 2 up to a self catering cottage sleeping 7. The website and associated photos are ’spot on’ and what you see is exactly what you get; excellent accommodation in a wonderful peaceful position overlooking open fields and woodland with dogs, cat, hens, ducks, goats and pheasants but not a ‘working farm’ with it’s associated noise and dangerous machinery, particularly if you have a family with young children.

Wouldn't hesitate to return to a warm welcome in a relaxed homely environment where nothing was too much trouble.
Of the 3 B&Bs in the courtyard, ours (Walcott) was very comfortable with no noise from its only adjacent neighbour (Gowland). Both were large single storey rooms compared with the smaller Wharton beneath one of the self-catering units in the two-story part. Although fully occupied (even mid-week in March), it was very peaceful and the place had a sense of isolation without feeling too cut off. 2 DOs - Visit the nearby White Swan for generous no-nonsense bar meals and well-kept draught beer. Take a stroll on Duncan & Jan's peaceful 40 acres (see photos) before settling at the communal dining table in the farmhouse. Although there are animals on the land at times, this isn't a full working farm so no need to dodge the bull or pinch your nose. 2 DON'Ts - Bank on getting away to explore the moors and nearby coast much before 10am unless you make arrangements otherwise. Leave without a dozen fresh eggs to help extend at least part of a fine Yorkshire experience for a few more days back home (the local sausages can also be bought at Rawcliffe in season). A BIG+ and a SMALL? The delicious leisurely breakfasts can only get better when the full range of local sausages become available once the pigs have grown (after Easter?). Sharing breakfast with strangers might not be everyones natural choice but Duncan and Jan quickly and expertly helped make it seem that we'd always known the other guests. What a gem - excellent value winter breaks with tasty food in a great location for anyone who enjoys unspoilt countryside - all that hosted by a genuine and helpful couple .

Top Class accommodation where they have thought of everything
Every thought has been put into what guests might need and more. The setting is beautiful and tranquil and our en-suite a little haven. We were met as old friends but given space to enjoy and explore the farm and the area. Walks from the door on personalised maps were a welcome "first"! Brilliant idea! If ever there was an incentive needed to return it would be to be welcomed back by Jan and Duncan.

Our third visit! - excellent holiday cottage and warm welcome
We have stayed at Rawcliffe with our extended family on three occasions and it still manages to keep our four young boys entertained and leaves us relaxed. The Cloth Fair cottage for 2 is ideally adapted for our father who is disabled and the Giltspur accomodates the rest of us. We always receive a warm welcome from Jan & Duncan together with a super welcome-hamper. We hope to return again in the future - whilst our growing family can still fit!

A unique experience - Not to be missed.
Rawcliffe House Farm was the best B&B we have ever stayed at and Duncan & Jan are exceptional hosts with nothing too much trouble to ensure a perfect stay. The accommodation was excellent, spotlessly clean with everything to suit all requirements. It was our first visit but most certainly won't be our last.

Looking forward to our next visit
We had a lovely stay in a most hospitable way." Cloth Fair"cottage is a lovely place, far away from the human race. Autumn colours all around, eyes to see, without a sound. Fluttering leaves in the Autumn breeze, the sound of silence among the trees. The rickety old chair at "Surprise View" not to be missed but its up to you! Enjoyed the scenery and the chat looking forward to coming back.
