There is ample room around the pool area for all guests to enjoy their own space. The views from the house and all the terraces are truly spectacular. The house has its own front door and private barbeque terrace. It also has an exceptionally large open plan lounge/kitchen/diner. The lounge area has comfortable seating for 6 guests and there is a dining table and 6 chairs. The kitchen is fully fitted and has solid wood units with granite worktops. It includes a hob, oven, microwave, fridge freezer, toaster and electric hand blender. A further dining table and chairs is outside on the barbeque terrace. Both bedrooms have zip and link beds which can be made up as either a large double or 2 singles, whichever you would prefer. A small childs bed or cot can be added to either bedroom. Both bedrooms also have spacious 'wetroom' style shower rooms ensuite, which include an adjustable height shower, washbasin and WC. The house comes prepared with all essentials - linen, towels, pool towels, tea towels, washing up liquid, hand soap, toilet rolls, kitchen roll, cling film, aluminium foil. A complimentary Welcome Pack is also provided, which includes - tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, butter, eggs, cheese, bottle of wine and soft drinks. What makes Casa Coruja so special is that when we designed it we wanted to ensure that it was not only spacious and elegant, but that it was also completely wheelchair friendly. To this end, subtle features were included - wider doors, level thresholds, no steps to negotiate. There is ample space to turn around in all rooms including the shower rooms. These also have open spaces under the washbasins, 1m spaces beside the WC's and grabrails beside the WC's and in the shower areas. The kitchen is also wheelchair friendly as it includes an extra lowered work surface and hob both with spaces beneath plus a further space beneath the sink. Most crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are kept in large pull out drawers with space to the side. The oven is set at 50cm from the floor. We can either provide or hire a number of mobility aids if required. Please ask us for details. Evenings at Vale da Cegonha are a real treat. As the sun sets behind the hills there is no better place for an alfresco supper washed down with a glass of delicious local wine. Afterwards, you will be treated to a dazzling display of starlight, thanks to our clean clear air. Truly breathtaking! Vale da Cegonha is the perfect rural retreat where you can just relax and unwind, yet close enough to the nearby town of Ourique (4 miles) which has a good selection of supermarkets, shops, cafes, restaurants etc to cater for all your needs. Ourique also has excellent road links which makes Vale da Cegonha an ideal place from which to explore much of southern Portugal. We want everyone to discover this lovely part of Portugal, regardless of mobility. So our invitation to everyone is to come, relax, explore and enjoy! About the neighbourhood
The Alentejo is an unspoilt paradise, home to a vast array of wildlife and birdlife including magnificent birds of prey. All regularly seen at Vale da Cegonha. Spring is lovely as wild flowers carpet the land along with the heady fragrance of cammomille. If you love 'the wild' then you'll love it here! The Alentejo is also famous for its food and wines. There are a number of excellent local restaurants. The black pig (preto porco) is superb and many nearby vineyards offer tasting tours as well as traditional meals.
Getting around
The lower Alentejo is spectacular and large. The roads are relatively traffic free so getting around by car is easy. Alternatively you could take a day trip to Lisbon, by train. Funcheira station is only 10 minutes away. Closer to home, Ourique has an excellent and inexpensive taxi service. So if you're planning to visit one of the nearby restaurants, no-one has to drive.
