Holiday Rental House
This is a a self contained, eco-friendlier, tiny house. Please be aware that it has a COMPOST TOILET! I would also like to alert you to the fact that it is only accessible from the road via a long, paved walk way, which includes many stairs. This tiny house is actually two adjacent buildings, which are connected via a covered porch. The house is very private, with a private entrance. Only 2.5 kilometres from the airport. My partner's younger brother James, is the architect who designed and built this house. James designed this tiny house for us back when he was still a happy student and resembled a hipster. Those days seem long gone for James; he now wears a suit, runs a massive architecture firm and resembles a permanently exhausted, suburban father of two adorable children. Anyway, James tells me that our tiny house is actually earthquake proof. Oh, and he also tells me that most of the timber used in the house is from recycled sources, and that the rest is sourced from sustainable eco-friendlier suppliers who don't use nasty chemicals. The house is only for rent in the warmer months, because my ex-husband lives in it each winter. But, if you were actually here in the winter I would give you a tour of how one of the active solar heater works: it has fans and a thermostat and is angled to catch the winter sun. It is kind of simple yet so effective. The other solar heater is boring, so I would not give you a tour of that one. The compost toilet is not scary. I promise. It has a built in extractor fan that prevents any momentary odours. If you are fortunate enough to rent the tiny house long enough such that you fill the bucket to the 3/4 full mark - you just put the lid on the bucket and I will take it away for you. A moment later, I will replace it with another clean bucket which I had prepared earlier. Or if you prefer, you can carry the bucket outside yourself, and exchange it for the new clean bucket that is already sitting there, ready and waiting for you. To use the compost toilet, you just use it as you would any flush toilet, but instead of flushing, you cover your waste with several scoops of saw dust which is conveniently stored in a container right next to the toilet. Then you simply close the toilet seat lid. Oh, and of course, your visit will start with a fresh clean bucket! There is a compost bin for kitchen scraps just a few steps from the front door. Inconveniently located, and directly in front of the afore mentioned compost bin is a narrow row of stones where two varieties of the local lizards (Oligosoma zelandicum and Oligosoma polychroma) happen to live. Please don't step on them. More
