The Station Master's House is the restored former Sanquhar Station building - with all the facilities you need for a luxury self-catering break in a beautiful area. A beautifully presented house, the online photographs do not do it justice. Spacious and well equipped. The trains were unfortunately off for engineering work while we were there but Sanquhar is well positioned for many places that are about an hour's drive away in all...More

About the neighbourhood
The ancient Town of Sanquhar, though granted its Royal charter as late as 1598, has its origins rooted in the 8th century when Sanquhar was first called Sean Caer, meaning in the Celtic tongue & Old Fort or Old Castle. A good selection of local shops includes a baker, butcher, florist, chemist, newsagent & 3 small supermarkets including a Co Op. Eateries within walking distance include an a local arts centre cafe, The Nithsdale, famous Blackaddie restaurant for fine dining.Sanquhar is the site of the Worlds oldest Post Office and scene of 17th century Covenanters - declaration renouncing alliegience first to Charles I, then to James VII. Sanquhars Tolbooth erected in 1735 at the instigation of Charles Duke of Queensberry.
Getting around
Excellent train service to Carlisle & Glasgow from the doorstep. Good local bus service a short walk away.
