About the neighbourhood
EYAM is a picturesque, unspoilt village nestling in a hollow on the hillside where the crags and edges of the Dark Peak meet the hills and dales of the White Peak limestone of Derbyshire. The village is famous for cutting itself off from neighbouring villages to stop the spread of the plague and there is a museum and audio trail telling the story. The pretty Norman church, St Lawrence' s, welcomes visitors, as does Eyam Hall and craft centre which is now run by the National Trust. There are two shops, cafes, a post office and a pub in the village, as well as a great children's play area and tennis courts, all within an easy walk from East View Cottage. Eyam holds an annual well dressing in August and carnival in September as well as the renowned Half Marathon in May, and excellent bonfir...
Getting around
The bus services in Eyam are pretty good for a rural village, and the Sheffield Manchester line runs trains through beautiful countryside, hourly from Grindleford, which is 5 minutes drive away.
