Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Restful, Peaceful and Cosy.
Fantastic cottage with a home from home feel. Bright and clean throughout with everything you could need for a stay. No matter the weather you can stay cosy indoors with the fire on, or head down to the beach in the sunshine or mizzle. The cottage is perfectly located on the coast with plenty to do within a 30 minute drive. We went to Heligan gardens, Mevagissey, St Austell Cinema when the weather was particularly bad and also Cornwall Gold near Red Ruth. Cannot recommend Cliff Cottage enough. We also enjoyed plenty of morning coffees sat on the bench in the garden watching the sea.

A gorgeous January stay
We had the best time here in an unseasonably sunny January. Sea views from every window, and a gorgeous garden space overlooking the water. It's such a quiet road, there's barely any traffic and the beach was basically private at this time of year. The beds are comfy and the kitchen well equipped. Our 9-month old even slept through the night for the first time. We will return!

A charming cosy cottage in an idyllic coastal setting
The cottage had a very welcoming feel and all areas were clean and tidy. There was every kitchen appliance you could wish for with a big range of utensils too. The fridge in the kitchen is a good size but it was also nice to find additional space in the fridge/freezer situated just outside the shower/toilet/wash basin room. The shower area is an impressive size and delivers a good volume of water. The living room was cosy and comfortable, although a couple of occasional tables for use at the side of the sofa and the armchair would be a good and practicle addition. The inglenook fireplace with a very efficient log burner is a lovely feature and was a joy on the chillier evenings. There is a table lamp tucked in on the left side of the fireplace which creates a lovey atmosphere. The beds were very comfortable with 5 star white cotton bed linen. Lots of good and varied lighting in the cottage to create the mood desired. The views from the windows, particularly from upstairs, looking out to sea and across the little bay are simply breathtaking and having the sound of the sea so close, especially when the tide is in, almost guarantees a good night's sleep. As the tide goes out it reveals a sandy and shallow beach with lots of rock pools to explore. With it being literallytwo minutes walk from the cottage door, it almost feels like your own small private beach. It's rare to find sensibly priced properties this close to the sea but even rarer to find such a lovely cottage in such a beautiful spot. Many folk who have stayed here in the cottage have returned time and time again and I can see why. It truly is a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy this little coastal gem of a place from. Perfect peaceful getaway
I've been holidaying on the Roseland Peninsula all my life, and a stay at this perfect little cottage had always been the dream. It didn't disappoint. West Portholland is a tiny wee hamlet; all we could hear was the gentle lap of the waves. Barely a car passed, just the odd jovial walker happy to stop and chat as we relaxed in the cliff top garden. We were down for a week and didn't venture far from the local area as the weather was superb. We walked to St Anthony Head lighthouse and took the foot ferry from Place to St Mawes for pasties. Another cliff walk to Portloe is a must. The Ship pub has reopened, which was most welcome. Boules and cricket on the beach just perfect. Fish and chips in Mevagissey and a stroll around the Lost Gardens of Heligan too. The cottage itself is very clean, well equipped and had everything we needed. Honestly, for us it was perfect. We'll definitely return

Fantastic cottage in beautiful location.
1 Cliff Cottage is in the most idyllic location right on the coast path. The views from the cottage and garden are amazing and it is just a one minute walk down the road to the beach. The cottage is clean and cosy with comfy beds and lots of hot water! The wood burner in the lounge is lovely in the evenings and the utility area is ideal for beach stuff and wellies. There is so much to do nearby and then it is wonderful to come back to the peace of the cottage. We feel very lucky to have stayed here many times and hopefully we'll be back again!

Excellent cottage in superb coastal and rural location.
Beautiful cottage that has been lovingly and tastefully modernised with everything you could need to make a comfortable and cozy stay. The bed and linen are of good quality as are all the furnishings and equipment. The utility area just inside the second entrance is a bonus if you are coming in with a wet dog or wet weather hiking gear or summer beach kit. The cottage has two tiny gardens, both elevated on the cliff providing views across the beach or Gerrans Bay. The cottage is literally a stones throw to the beach and the south west coast path which passes the door whilst just a there are plenty of countryside walks from the cottage. No need to get the car out!! We will be back again many times! Thank you to Danny and Jo.

Perfect retreat
Perfect! This cottage at Portholland never fails to deliver. The ideal place for peace, relaxation and ‘off-loading’. Very well equipped with everything required for self catering. Stunning coastline with fabulous walks, then back to sit in front of the huge log burner and watch through the window as the waves crash on the rocks. Portholland played a very big part in my growing up and brings back many happy memories. 1 Cliff Cottage is the perfect place for recharging. Can’t wait for the next time! Thank you

Lovely cottage in beautiful location
We love this cottage and its quiet and peaceful and unspoilt location minutes from the beach. There are plenty of places to visit in the area not too far away like Caerhayes, the Eden project, or Trellisick (National Trust ) . The cottage itself has fabulous views of the sea from the bedroom windows, is always spotlessly clean and has all you need for your stay, There are also a couple of little garden areas belonging to the cottage with seats which we also enjoyed, We have returned quite a few times now over the years in the off-season months, and it’s become special to us.

A charming little cottage in a wonderful, peaceful location.
The cottage sits overlooking the sea in West Portholland, a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of life. At low tide you can walk along the beach to East Portholland, with it’s clean sandy beach and friendly cafe. You can easily walk along the road to this location too. The cottage a itself is clean, cosy and well equipped. I loved being able to lie in bed and hear the sea. The cottage has a small garden with a table and benches, perfect for eating overlooking the sea, or just relaxing. I was wowed by the beautiful clear skies at night and enjoyed picking out constellations. During our week’s stay we enjoyed some lovely walks and a delicious lunch at the cafe at Towan beach. Mostly we enjoyed the peace, quiet and I have to say the perfect weather. I would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to be able to stay there again myself.
