The house comes with exclusive use of its own fully fenced off swimming pool, gas fired barbecue and internet. Comfort and style are the keynotes of this tastefully restored 1,800 sf house. Boasting well planned spacious accommodation, La Petite Anglade, with its shuttered windows, terracotta floor tiles and comfortable modern furnishings , should not fail to please the whole family. The house comfortably sleeps eight adults (two double bedrooms - one en suite and two twin bedrooms). It has a spacious bright kitchen with dining area and a large living room featuring a large cut-stone fireplace and open stone work walls. Both kitchen and living room have french doors leading onto the covered terrace which is ideal for alfresco dining or barbecue's. The large south facing garden is perfect for games or simply soaking up the sun while the delightful swimming pool (10m x 5m with roman steps) enjoys panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. While many guests are more than happy just to relax and unwind by the swimming pool, there is much in the area to keep the more actively inclined busy including, but not limited to, golf, horse riding, adventure parks, jet skiing and canoeing. Start your day by popping down to the local boulangerie (voted one of the best in Charente!) and picking up some of the best croissants in the region for breakfast. Finally, what better way to finish the day than head out and sample some of the regions marvelous wines over dinner in one of the many local restaurants in the area. Whatever your preference you are sure to find something to please. We look forward to welcoming you to L’Anglade and promise to do all in our power to ensure you have a memorable stay. L'Anglade is a lovely old former cognac estate steeped in local history and tradition. So far the owners have been able to trace the history of the property back to the mid 1600's, though with further digging they are confident they will be able to trace back even further. Among the more illustrious previous owners of L'Anglade have been Dangiaud de L'Anglade, advocat to the Prince of Tallyrand and Lord of Perigord. More recently, Francis Ganivet Desgraviers, a famous French soldier was born on the property in 1768. In later life Degraviers went on to become a famous and much decorated General in the Army before retiring in 1807 to get married. Unfortunately, at least according to a local history book, his new wife proved to be a woman of such unpleasing disposition that Degraviers decided to leave the matrimonial home after just two years of marriage and rejoin the army. Alas, his second term in the army proved to be nearly as short lived as his marriage with Degraviers being fatally injured at the battle of Arapiles, Salamanca in 1812. Today, the property, which is set in over three acres of mature wooded and landscaped gardens comprises of four dwellings - the main house (which is owner occupied), a caretakers cottage and two beautifully renovated holiday homes, Villa Anglade and La Petite Anglade. About the neighbourhood
The house is set in a beautiful rural setting of south Charente. Although in a rural settting there are a multitude of restaurants and things to do within a short drive of the property. (The local village (1km) boasts a great restaurant called Bistro des Halles). Meanwhile less than hours drive will bring to the heart of some of France's most famous and beautiful vinyards in St Emilion.
Getting around
Give our rural location a car is a must, though taxis are also available if one wants to go out at night and let one's hair down!
