The village of Lower Largo is famed for being the birth place of Alexander Selkirk (the real Robinson Crusoe) and Cardy Cottage is situated a few yards from the Crusoe statue which marks the spot where Selkirk was born and spent his early years before embarking on his adventures.
The Fife Coastal path runs past Cardy Cottage, bring your walking boots and do as little or as much of the path as you want. The excellent local bus service means one way walks are a distinct possibility.
There is a small shop in the village selling basic essentials as well as the popular and hospitable Railway Inn and Crusoe Hotel and Restaurant, which serves great value meals at lunch and dinner 7 days a week. The shop, pub and hotel are within a 5 minute walk of the cottage.
Further afield the nearest supermarket is 3 miles away in Leven and there are a wide variety of eating places within easy striking distance, ranging from the Michelin starred restaurants to award winning fish and chip shops as well as multiple quality farm shops and markets.

A cosy cottage in a very good position.
Very well maintained and equipped with everything you could possibly need.
The beach and the village amenities are very close by.
It was lovely to hear the sea at night and the sea views from the upstairs windows are lovely.

Cosy and close to beach
There are plenty of holiday cottages in Lower Largo. Most of those which give direct access to the beach are on Main Street- where parking can be a bit tricky. Cardy Cottage has its own parking space directly outside the front door- but the space is narrow and a little awkward to get in and out of. However, the Temple Car Park is only a couple of minutes’ walk away and there is an alleyway leading there immediately behind the cottage. For us, with a medium sized electric SUV this was ideal. There is a ChargePlace Scotland 22Kw charger in the car park. It was never ICEd when we were there and we had no problems charging from either of the two sockets.
The cottage is well-appointed and was clean and tidy when we got there. It has been well looked after and maintained. There were only two of us staying- and that was enough. Although it will accommodate four people, it was a little small (clue: “a cosy cottage”). However, it was adequate. We had friends staying on Main Street and their place was very small.
It was possible to see the sea from the bedrooms and to hear the waves with the upstairs windows open.
The only real disappointment was the slow broadband speed. This meant that streaming TV could buffer too often; but TV is probably not a priority when staying at a nearly-beachside location. …but it might be a frustration if you have young children.
Mobile phone reception (TescoMobile/02) was good and we could get 4G.
We climbed Largo Law (the hill- a volcanic plug- that dominates the landscape). The view from the top is brilliant. Poor phone signal there- but we got 5G at the bottom.
Lower Largo is a lovely place to stay. The beach was never crowded, the café and bars were quite busy (early September) but not horribly so. There is a train station a few miles away at Markinch- an easy drive- and you can get trains to Dundee or Edinburgh frequently.
The supermarkets in Leven, also a few miles away, are very good. But there are also excellent local shops.
The competition for holiday homes is probably quite strong. Cardy Cottage is certainly worthy of consideration. There was nothing to put us off. The owners live nearby and their communications and organisational skills were excellent. Would we stay there again? Maybe. We wouldn’t dismiss it. Much would depend on what else was available and the price. Overall, though, we were happy.

A lovely well equipped and cosy cottage by the sea with lots to do nearby.
We enjoyed a fantastic week staying at Cardy Cottage in March 2022. The cottage is very cosy and close to the sea with the Fife Coastal Footpath running nearby. There is so much to see in the surrounding countryside from castles and gardens to beautiful villages nestling around a quaint harbour. There is everything you need in the cottage and it is lovely to fall asleep to the sound of waves breaking on the seashore. The parking is tight but also very handy to have the car right outside the cottage once installed.

Great seaside cottage
Our second visit here and already hopefully looking forward to our third. A great base to explore the east Neuk of fife but lower largo is a lovely “original seaside village“ in its own right. Cottage is well fitted out and is homely and comfortable. No negatives !

COSY COTTAGE FOR FIFE COASTAL AREA
We booked this cottage for a week's holiday in Fife, and it was all as described in the information. It suited us as a couple, but could also accommodate a small/young family. It is a cosy place, with all the amenities you would expect and has been well prepared for Covid safety.
The location is very close to Largo beach and the Fife Coastal Path. Lower Largo does not have much by way of entertainment, with one pub and a general store, but there are plenty of places in the area to explore with very pretty harbours, beaches and - best of all - great ice cream!
Parking on the drive is a bit tricky but there is alternative parking nearby.

Warm and welcoming cottage right next to the beach
Had a wonderful week in Cardy Cottage with lovely weather as a bonus. The cottage provides everything anyone would need for a relaxing break - full of light and has a real fire in the cozy sitting room which is a lovely place to enjoy a glass of wine after a day out on the beach. Because the weather was so good, we were able to sit outside to eat and enjoyed people watching and having chance conversations with passers by. We grew up in the area so know it well and there are so many lovely places to visit and activities to enjoy if you prefer to be busy- we were there for a rest! Would highly recommend Cardy Cottage.

Great cottage
Spent a week and Cardy Cottage and had a great time. The cottage was spotless on arrival and the welcome pack was very much appreciated. The location is just perfect, the beach is right on your doorstep. Parking the car is a real challenge as the entrance is extremely tight but got better as the week went on!! Would definitely return in the future, highly recommend it.
