Bolsena, Province of Viterbo, Lazio
The villa benefits from its own private pool (not fenced off) which is heated with solar panels and covered in the winter months. The grounds are extensive with many places to sit underneath the shady olive trees. Fruit trees abound and guests are encouraged to pick their own fresh fruit to eat. The house has a patio running around the back with views of the lake ideal for al fresco dining + a terrace on the first floor where you can sit and drink your aperatifs while admiring the stunning views.

The villa is ideal for lovers of nature and art with plenty of historical sites to visit in the area along with the natural beauties of Lake Bolsena. It is also near the thermal spas of Viterbo to the south and San Casciano dei Bagni to the north. A 9-hole golf course is about 20 minutes drive away near Acquapendente and an 18-hole golf course...

Located between two sleepy medieval hilltop villages, down a secluded windy road, this mountainside villa and it's vistas are truly breathtaking.

With panoramic views of Lake Bolsena, the villa has a convenient carriageway drive, and beautiful garden lights throughout the ample gardens which illuminate the grounds at night.

Eight of us stayed here for a week at the end of July and had an amazing time with the huge pool (could easily fit 30 people!) and BBQ area. The villa is decorated and modernised to a very high standard and features a mutli-room speaker system so the radio could be played throughout the house, (even in the bathrooms!) which was a nice touch.

The villa's location is slightly secluded but this is a small price to pay for the serenity and peacefulness of the garden and grounds. There is a nearby supermarket which was less than 5mins drive away and it only took 10mins to drive down to the lake.

Our only issue was that...

Management response:

I will inform the owner about the temperature during the day in the villa and see if a solution can be found, but, as you said, it was exceptionally hot this year. I hope to be able to welcome you back again soon. Marian

We can honestly say that it was the best holiday home we have ever stayed in. The house is furnished and equipped to such a high standard and coupled with the amazing views of the lake and surrounding land makes it an outstanding place to stay. The pool is absolutely huge. We were there at the end of July/beginning of August and there was a constant gentle breeze blowing which made the temperature much more comfortable. A huge bonus was that there were absolutely no Mosquitos whatsoever which was such a relief.

Susan who was our link between us and the owner (who speaks no English) was extremely helpful and accommodating. The owner came along to greet us with Susan and to say goodbye. He takes great pride (justifiably) in his beautiful house and grounds which have lots of fruit trees and grapevines from which he makes his own wine at a local press. He gave us several bottles which were delicious and was keen to make sure that we were enjoying ourselves...

About the neighbourhood
Grotte di Castro stands on hill at the north-west end of Lake Bolsena. It was built on an early Etruscan settlement that was destroyed by the Romans around the 3rd century b.c. The Etruscan tombs are being restored and can be to some extent visited. The present town dates back to the middle ages.

There is plenty to do in the area, attractions include the lake with its sandy beaches and the thermal spas of Viterbo. Then of course, there is the many historic towns and villages to visit including, Bolsena, Montefiascone, Viterbo, Bagnoregio, Sutri and Orvieto to name just a view. The nearest sea beach can be found at Pescia Romana, about an hour's drive and there is also an 9-hole golf course at Acquapendente, just under 15 minutes drive away.
