To arrive in San Mamiliano is what one imagines from years of looking at Italian escape books or tv shows. The large stone house overlooking the valleys and hills of the surrounding area with a backdrop of green forests and wild flowers just interspersed amongst the trees is inspiring to say the least. Surprised to see such a huge pool,...

Two weeks or relaxation into one! Had a fantastic stay at La Loggia in San Mamiliano. The accommodation is clean and well fitted out. The views from the bedrooms and the pool are just stunning. There are times when you can literally hear nothing...so peaceful. At the same time it is ideally located (only 4-5 km to some great restaurants)...

This was our second visit to this San Mamiliano idyll and we would move in permanently if we could! Part of its appeal for my partner and me is its stunning, apparently remote, location coupled with its easy access to so many wonderful Umbrian treasures and attractions. The property has been restored and modernised with sympathy and in total keeping...

Additional amenities & feature info
With its original stone walls, beamed ceilings and terracotta floors, La Loggia is a very appealing place to spend a holiday, and great care has been taken in its restoration. The living room is part of the ancient foundations of the house, with a lovely divan literally gouged out of the rock and scattered with cushions. The kitchen has all modern appliances, including dishwasher and washing machine, but retains plenty of original features and is furnished in traditional style. The master bedroom is a lovely airy room with a four-poster bed and beautiful hand painted furniture. It has restful views out across the hills and valleys. The second bedroom, a twin, is smaller, but very light and attractive, with French windows which open on to similar views. The bathroom is large and inviting, w... more

About the neighbourhood
San Mamiliano is tucked away in a hidden corner of Umbria. Here, you won't find coach loads of tourists. Nor will you find yourself sitting next to other holidaymakers when you eat out at the excellent country trattorias, of which there are a number within easy reach. There are spectacular walks and horse riding, tennis, canoeing and white water rafting (including some descents suitable for children) all available nearby. There are also many little known local treasures, which the owners will be glad to point out. These include the highest waterfalls in Europe, an exquisite 7th century frescoed abbey and several abandoned hilltop villages, which can be reached on foot and are idyllic spots for a picnic.
Other must-sees are the exquisite ancient Roman settlement of Carsulae, the beauti...
