Although Grape Cottage is set in a rural location it is only a few minutes drive away from beautiful market towns and villages, historical sites, the Dordogne River and many other areas of interest. Some of the best restaurants in Perigord Noir are on the doorstep and the town of Sarlat, which is just a 7 minute drive away has many cafes, bars and tourist attractions. We offer a daily freshly baked bread/pastries delivery service - direct to your door! For those of you feeling active you can use one of the bikes that are available to hire to cycle your way around this beautiful part of the country. We also hire out canoes as the Dordogne River, with it's lovely picnic spots and swimming is only a short distance away. We'll take you and the canoe to your chosen start point and then collect you later and bring you home. Whether it is a peaceful and relaxing holiday that you are looking for, a crazy busy one, or a mixture of the two, then Grape Cottage is the perfect base for you. The property has the private use of its fantastic treetop terrace and a large pool just a few steps away from the gite. There is a newly installed log burner for cozy days and nights on your Autumn/Winter holiday. Grape Cottage is set within the grounds of La Blanquette, which is where the friendly but unintrusive owners live. The grounds cover more than 12 acres and are made up of lawned areas and woodland. There is ample off-road parking and a secure locked store for those of you bringing your own bikes. A welcome hamper is provided and will be in the gite for your arrival. A typical hamper contains a bottle of local wine, bread, milk, cheese, butter, coffee and biscuits. Contents may vary. Children over 12 are welcome. Lovely time spent here, relaxing and quiet area. Owners have good knowledge of the area of where to eat, what to do etc. We didn’t use the bikes but we did use the canoes and what a great time that was paddling down the Dordogne.

About the neighbourhood
Sarlat is a few kilometres north of the River Dordogne. It is a medieval town that developed around a large Benedictine abbey of Carolingian origin. Because modern history has largely passed it by, Sarlat has remained preserved and one of the towns most representative of 14th century France. The centre of the old town consists of impeccably restored stone buildings and is largely car-free.Sarlat is a pleasure to walk around, especially during the spring and autumn, or early in the morning. If you can catch the early morning sunshine on the yellow sandstone buildings, so much the better.
How to get there
Our gites are easily accessible from Australia, USA, Canada, New Zealand or the UK. One option is to fly into Paris and then on to Bergerac, Bordeaux, Brive or Toulouse by train, plane or car. There are direct flights to Brive, Bergerac, Limoges and Toulouse from the UK. If you choose to drive from Paris it takes about 5 hours and is mainly on the motorway. The drive from Brive airport is approximately 40 minutes, Bergerac is about an hour and 15 minutes and from Bordeaux and Toulouse takes between 2 and 3 hours and again these routes are mainly motorway.
