Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

What a Find!
A friend mentioned that Ian had some last minute space for a pre-Easter family ski holiday. It was perfect.
The chalet has plenty of space for all of us to spread out across the three casual seating areas, plus the veranda and separate hot tub.
Dinners were fun, informal and delicious, served with generous good quality drinks.
In the mornings we elected to start early with a substantial cooked breakfast at 8. Ian then drove us to one of the four lift stations nearby for the first ascent at 9am. Picking us up when we were ready each afternoon. His local knowledge of where to find the best runs from the 680km within the region was invaluable.
Those that didn't ski could wander across to see the waterfall or follow the river to the adjacent villages before heading back to the comfort of the chalet to relax with a book.
We'd considered booking a hotel but this was so much better, more space, more food and more fun.

Lovely Chalet, Lovely People, Lovely Food, Lovely Holiday!
We spent new year 2019/2020 here with a lovely bunch of "random" guests. Everything about the chalet was lovely. Big shout out to Kryst (sorry about spelling) and Denise, the chefs who went the extra mile to cook up some fab food for us.
Unfortunately, I had an accident on day 2, but Ian and his dad, Bill really went out of their way to make me comfortable for the remaining part of my non-skiing holiday. I spent a few days on the big comfy sofa watching Netflix, and everyone made sure I was OK! I also got to witness how much time and energy everyone put into keeping the chalet spotlessly clean, and prepping for dinner.
The snow was perfect, with blue skies every day. I would love to return someday....

A perfect Ski Trip
Having visited the Portes De Soleil many times over the last 35 years I thought I had seen it all but having just stayed at the wonderful Alpine Majestic for a late end of season ski trip i can say with some certainty we have found something new, charming, very comfortable and very special. Rise and Denise set high standards in their culinary and entertaining skills, the food is creative and of a very high standard, the wine is good and plentiful.
Chalet owner, Ian is one of the most laid back guys you will meet, he couldn’t have done anymore. As a bonus we met some lovely people also staying at the chalet. What’s not to like? We will be back soon.

Fabulous Experience
Fantastic stay as usual. Our 6th visit and gets better every time. Wonderful hosts, lovely food & wine, luxuary accommodation made even better by the hot tub with views of the mountains. Ian & the team can’t do enough for you. The open fire with a glass of wine after a brillaint day on the slopes is about as good as it gets. The ski area has something for everyone at all levels. Take the time to ski over to The Swiss Wall & even if you don’t take it on, the experience will take your breath away.
Overall, one of my favourite places in the the world. See you next time guys.

Beautiful chalet, great food!
Short ski break for 3 friends - we shared a family room which was actually two rooms. The chalet is absolutely stunning inside - one of the best I have stayed in. Food each evening was excellent and hot tub outside has plenty of room. The chalet is located a few minutes down the road from Chatel but Ian does the transfers up and down the valley. The nearest lift is only a few minutes drive away and the ski area above Chatel is a lot quieter than the main Avoriaz slopes. Chalet has a games/TV room for kids and has lovely firm pillows so a good night's sleep was had. Overall our stay was excellent value for money and would definitely look to re-visit on another skiing trip in the future.

Fantastic chalet week
This was our third visit to Joanne & Ian's wonderful chalet which says it all. On this occasion we were two couples sharing with other mixed guests which worked out fantastically. The chalet is immaculate and 5* quality in every aspect. The rooms are spotless, modern and comfortable, the food is restaurant standard and the communal living area in front of the fire is a brilliant relaxing and social focal point. The external hot tub is a real bonus with mountain views. The hosts are lovely and because the chalet is not ski in/ski out, Ian provides shuttle runs to and from the lifts to suit everyone. I do not believe there is another chalet holiday that could match up to the standard of the property, the hosting, the food and facilities for the value of this holiday. It would suit all. The town of Chatel is pretty and close by and offers some great drinking and eating options on the chefs night off. We had a great week and met some great people. Unreservedly recommended.

Amazing Ski Chalet with the best food ever !
I am not sure where to start! Chalet Soleil is an absolute gem. Beautiful chalet, attentive hosts, stunning views, fantastic food and wine. Ian and Joanne are so hospitable, they will do everything they can to make your stay the best you have ever experienced. The food that James, the chef, created was stunning. We were excited every night to know what was for dinner/breakfast. It was a delight to return to the chalet after a hard day's skiing, enjoy afternoon cake, get in the hot tub with a beer/wine and then sit in front of the fire with drinks before dinner. We felt part of the family and hope to return again. Thank you so much for a great week.

The perfect ski holiday
From the moment we arrived, Joanne and Ian were so very welcoming and they couldn't do enough for us. The chalet itself was beautiful, with high quality furnishing and tasteful decor, giving it a lovely homely feeling. Relaxing in the hot tub with a glass of fizz and a beautiful mountain view was a perfect way to end a busy day skiing. Ian kindly dropped us off at the slopes and picked us up every day which made life very easy! James, the chef, made a variety of exceptional breakfasts and evening meals-some of the most delicious food we have ever eaten! Overall we had an absolutely wonderful time at the chalet and would highly recommend it as the best way to do a ski holiday.

Wow!! What a chalet
I’ve skied for many years and stayed in many chalets but none of them come close tp the standard of this chalet. It certainly is a cut above the rest and a real credit to Ian and Joanne. The chalet is immaculately clean. The rooms are generous and well proportioned. The lounge and dining area is spacious and relaxing with a lovely roaring fire as a centre piece. The food was like eating in a 5* restaurant every night with canapés to start. Our chef James was so accommodating particularly with the children. He is truly a very talented chef and a credit to the chalet.
Joanne and Ian were amazing hosts and couldn’t do enough for us. We were taken to and from the mountains each day. Our group included non skiers but they never felt isolated as transport was always on hand.
Like me you may be searching for a negative review and I couldn’t find one. Now I know why! We will definitely be visiting again. Everything was just perfect... and I’m a fussy customer!

Another fantastic week at superb chalet
This was our second visit to Ian & Joanne's chalet in March 2017. We went with a group of 10 friends. It did not disappoint. The chalet is a luxury accommodation with high quality rooms, great communal areas, hot tub and 5* catering. It really is like eating at a top restaurant each night. The hosts are lovely people and Ian is always available to shuttle run to the slopes upon demand. Their chalet remains incredible value for money based on the level of service and standard provided. We would recommend to anyone. There are no negatives to the property. It is our intention to return again in 2018 because we don't believe you could get better value anywhere else.
