L'Ancienne Fromagerie is a unique and beautiful character house that forms part of the old nineteenth century cheese dairy. The property has been entirely renovated, featured as a 'cosy, well-restored, traditional' chalet in the 2013 Where to Ski and Snowboard Guide Book. It is light and spacious throughout; with a generous 83m2 of accommodation cleverly laid out over 3 floors. It comprises three bedrooms and two bathrooms sleeping 9 people. Ideally situated, it is just 200m from the historic village center and its shops, cafe bars and restaurants. On the entrance level there is an open plan lounge and dining area with a double sofa bed, large table with ample seating and wonderful views of the village and mountains. It is equipped with free wif fi, flat screen TV with over 160 channels including English channels, DVD player, iphone/ipad speaker dock and a selection of DVD's,board games, books and maps. A large wood burner provides a focal point in the living area and there is heating throughout the house. The new fully equipped kitchen area has plenty of work space, wide range of utensils and crockery, appliances including a electric ceramic hob, integrated dishwasher, microwave, fridge and fan oven. On the lower floor is the utility/drying room housing the freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. A cot, high chair, bed rail and safety gate are also available. Bedrooms Stairs lead off the living area to the lower and upper floors. The lower floor has a large family bedroom with double bed, bunk beds and its own hand basin. There is also a bathroom on this level with a shower, hand basin, toilet and heated towel rail. Upstairs are a further two bedrooms, one with a double bed, and the other with twin beds and a further full sized single bed available. Both rooms have velux windows, providing ample natural light and wonderful views. There is also a second bathroom equipped with bath and integrated shower, hand basin and toilet. The sofa bed in the living area provides additional sleeping flexibility. Hairdryers are provided Exterior The accommodation has off-road parking for two or three cars and outside secure storage for equipment such as bikes and skis. To the side of the property there is a terrace for outside dining equipped with table and chairs, BBQ and is ideal for relaxing and soaking up the alpine atmosphere of the village. Our prices include meeting at the accommodation with keys and information, provision of linen and towels with beds made prior to arrival and end of stay cleaning. A welcome basket including tea, coffee, sugar, milk, jam, chocolates, wine together with a selection of Molton Brown toiletries in each bathroom is provided. There is also a starter pack of washing up liquid, bin liners, washing powder and cleaning products. Log are provided for the wood burner, local tourist taxes and in resort manager, who will be on hand to assist, as well as providing catering options, delivered to the chalet.More

We will provide you with more detailed information on the chalet and its facilities, airport transfers, ski hire, childcare options, directions and key arrangements. You will be met at the chalet by our in resort manager in Samoens, with the keys on your arrival and she will be available for advice during your stay. Our manager can also provide freshly prepared meals delivered to the chalet from her own catering company.

In spite of horrible weather ( unprecedented weather! ) we still had a lovely time. La Vieille Fromagerie was a welcome retreat after a days skiing or avoiding the rain.

LAncienne Fromagerie is situated in the French Alps, in the medieval village of Samoens. One of the prettiest villages in France, and is the only winter and summer sports resort in France to be listed as a Monument Historique. The area provides spectacular scenery, mountains. including mountain lakes, botanical garden, national parks and provides the centre for almost every outdoor activity imaginable, for all ages, summer or winter. It is close to the borders of Switzerland and Italy, and day trips can be taken to Chamonix, Annecy or perhaps Lake Geneva, the largest lake in Europe or Mont Blanc the highest mountain in Europe.
Getting around
The Grand Massif is the 4th largest ski-linked area in France. It rises up to an altitude of 2500m. Surrounded by grandiose scenery, the Grand Massif affords a truly breath-taking panoramic view of the French side of the Mont Blanc mountain range. The linked resorts - Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt - are remarkably diverse. During the summer, the weather is usually in the high 20s - perfect for swimming, walking, cycling, rafting, or visiting neighbouring towns and lakes in France, Switzerland or Italy.The location is brilliant and right from the doorstep you can access mountain hikes, skiing in winter, in summer close to lakes, walking, Sixt national park, 1 hour from Annecy, Geneva, 40 minutes from Chamonix.
