We stayed at the Chateau Marcel for 2 months(November/December 2015) and then returned again for three weeks in January. Belinda the owner of the Chateau is an amazing hostess, she is ready to assist with any of your needs. Both the apartments that we stayed in were furnished with some wonderful antique pieces. Both had very workable kitchens with all...

So sorry Ken and Belinda. Thought we had written our review year ago. It is such a lovely apartment but most of all we remember your hospitality and great service. We went there with our daughter and had 18 spectacular days in France. The holiday was memorable in many ways and we really hope to go back when our younger...

We have just come back from Chatau Marcel having spent the first week of our Easter break there. There is so much to see in this area, for adults you have the wine, walks, food and abundance of medieval villages to see. For teenagers there are cycle routes across miles of vineyards, and water sports in local lakes and the...

About the neighbourhood
The immediate vicinity of Chateau Marcel in the Minervois wine area of the Hérault Departement incorporates many of the regions attractions. For example Homps (5 min. by car) is a mooring stop-off town of the Canal du Midi where you can lunch at a quay-side café, walk or bike along the tree-lined footpaths of the canal or take a boat tour through its many locks. Then there is, of course, the Cathar stronghold of Minerve nestled high in rocky gorges. Minerve was a fortifed village that eventually fell to the forces of Simon de Beufort in 1210 who mounted catpults across the gorge to pummel the village's ramparts before making their final assault . Today this medieval village is still inhabited and largely intact with artisan shops and cafés catering to visitors roaming its meanderi... more

The area is easily accessible by air, road or rail. There is an abundance of international airports in the Midi so you should check to see which one(s) each airline flies into. The TGV also operates regular train service from the north of France and its a fast smooth ride all the way down to Languedoc. The autoroutes also bring you to within half an hour of the chateau. If you're driving down from the north, it is definitely worthwhile to plan your route to come across the Millau Viaduct which is the highest bridge in the world (the middle supports are taller than the Eiffel Tower) and a tourist attraction in and of itself. However you choose to arrive, check Google maps to pin point our exact location relative to major cities and surounding towns.
