The cottage is a haven of peace and tranquility and enjoys stunning views over a beautiful river valley. Footpaths lead from the front door onto a vast network of Forest paths and tracks; you can literally walk for miles! The cottage benefits from a large wildlife garden with its own bird hide and panoramic views. Robin Cottage has achieved a gold award from Qulity in Tourism and has been renovated to high standard. It retains much of its original rustic charm, including it's large fireplace which has now been fitted with a woodburner to set the scene for those cosy, romantic evenings in. (Additional heating is provided by modern convector heaters located in every room). Snuggle up on the luxury Italian leather sofa in front of the fire and enjoy a movie on the 33 inch flat screen smart TV. There is also a bluetooth speaker so you can listen to your favourite tracks as well as a DVD player. The walking guides and a leisure map of the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean area will help you to make the most of your stay. Upstairs there is a spacious double bedroom with a KING SIZE BED from which you can take in countryside views. Downstairs the sofa can be converted into an additional double bed (£40 fee applies) if you wish to bring children or friends along. There is a luxurious bathroom with full sized bath and shower over. Fluffy white dressing gowns add a touch of luxury for a romantic stay. The large wildlife garden has magnificent views over the valley and is a great place to take your breakfast on a sunny morning or enjoy the sunset of an evening. If you love wildlife, you will love the garden, for example watching the swallows skimming the surface of the pond for insects in summer and witnessing the house martins mobbing a hobby overhead. We also provide a pair of binoculars and wildlife guide to the birds and animals you are likely to spot at the cottage as well as information on all local nature reserves and how to get there. In addition to the garden there is also a BBQ area with seating, table and built in BBQ which also enjoys the amazing views. Robin Cottage has received a Gold award from Quality in Tourism, so quality is assured! NB This Cottage is not dog friendly; If you would like a pet friendly stay try 'Cosy cottage with bird hide in stunning location' next door. There are many outdoor activities available in the Forest; hire a canoe or a kayak and paddle down the Wye, or a mountain bike and take to the cycle tracks which lead you through mile after mile of beautiful woodland. For those interested in history, within half an hour there are the Dean Heritage Centre and the border castles of Chepstow and Goodrich to name but a few. A bit further afield, Hereford cathedral where you can view the famous Mappa Mundi, Tewkesbury Abbey and Gloucester Cathedral are well worth the visit. The Cotswolds, the Black Mountains and the Malvern Hills are all less than an our's drive away. Mitcheldean is the nearest town (3 miles away), providing a small supermarket, Post Office, Butcher's, Green Grocer's, Fish & Chip Shop and Chemist's. There is a wider variety of shops and facilities at Cinderford, 5 miles away. The cottage was lovely and well appointed. Views from the house were excellent. Having bird feeders outside was a nice touch, especially when visited by a woodpecker. Easy to visit places, such as Puzzle Wood and Tintern Abbey. we had a fantastic time.

About the neighbourhood
There is plenty to see and do in the local area. Here are a few examples; Puzzle wood, the film set for the most recent Star Wars Film Canoeing the Wye Mountain Biking (Bike hire available at Peddalabikeaway in Cannop) Visit a number of magnificent castles on the Welsh borders. See Peregrine falcons and admire the views at Symonds Yat Rock Go Ape Walk the Sculpture Trail from Beechenhurst Lodge Visit Tintern Abbey in the Wye Valley Tour the Mill and taste the cider at family run Westons Cider, in Much Marcle Visit the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust's reserves and see birds such as Haw Finch, Cross bills, shrike, Hobby and Goshawks. U
Getting around
We are not on a bus route, so most people will find a car essential unless the purpose of the holiday is to walk from the cottage everyday. The walks do start from the doorstep of the cottage. Without a car, access would be by bus from Gloucester railway station to Mitcheldean and then either walking (45 mins with some uphill) or by taxi. There is no taxi rank, so the taxi would need to be pre-ordered.
